Goodbye CoX from Day 1 player!
I am an 8-year vet, too. I feel like I am losing a really dear friend. I can't even express how sad I am.

The other video from way back then was this one with the original Bonnie Tyler version of Holding Out For a Hero.

I was about a day 6 or day 7 player... and I also left the game for about 1 1/2 years. But anyway... been a long fun ride.

Day 1 Player here, been active all this time. Been a heck of a ride.

Protector and Victory mostly, but have stuck my nose in other places from time to time.
"Can play" is not a binary. It's a float.
There are some pretty low values of "can play" out there.

The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off
i started in June of 04, i was 14. Haven't stopped playing, i've pretty much grown up with this game into adult hood. I turned 23 last Saturday.

Not day 1, but just about day 1 of issue 3 and active from that time on. I've tried a few other MMO's but nothing has the draw, the depth and most importantly the community of CoH. I'm still in shock and disbelief; yesterday everything was fine, development was continuing on issue 24 and everyone was eagerly awaiting all of the upcoming improvements. Then suddenly BAM; like a baseball bat in the gut.
This has been, for all practical purposes, the only game I've played in the last 7 years. Last time I counted it up I had over 100 characters and well over 20,000 hours in game. Devs, obviously you've done a lot of things right and it had to be a shock to have the rug yanked out from under you with no warning after all your hard work.
I have no idea where I'm going to find another game with anything like this community; I feel that some of my very best friends are people I've met through this game. It feels in some ways like a good friend is dying; life will go on but things won't be the same.
COH has just been murdered by NCSoft. http://www.change.org/petitions/ncso...city-of-heroes
I've been here since a few weeks after launch, before Issue#1. I was an uninterrupted subscriber until only about 6-7 months ago. (I have a TON of vet badges) This news really sucks.
I'm holding out naive hope that the game can somehow be saved.

Hard to believe that was 8 years ago!
@Olympia XLI - 102 months and counting until the end!

I will deeply miss City of Heroes very much.
I feel quite upset over this, over 8 years i have played in the COH universe. Its always been my backup plan when things get stressy at work, or when I feel like ignoring my significant other. As a matter of fact I was bragging to a friend how City Of Heroes still have that je na sai quas missing in so many games created now. I will miss respecs having a meaning and hunting in perez for the first time and the Icon store opening and doing hami and fighting the giant clockwork during the synapse tf and brickstown and badge hunting - Striga island - croatoa, the wonderful season events and the way supergroups once really meant something, something real. Goodbye City of Heroes, thank you for the wonderful memories.
From the first day of the pre-order head start, I fell in love with this game.
Even beyond the game itself, this community is by far the most friendly, amazing group of e-people I've ever seen, and probably ever will.

I have been here since day -3, aka the 1st day of the head start. I had a whole bunch of friends in beta, but I did not join until pre-release.
I have never unsubscribed. My subscription has never lapsed as much as 24 hours that I know of. I have two accounts, once created after CoV, so I could have more characters on my home server.
Before I came here, I was an on-line FPS player. This is the first MMO I ever played, despite having numerous friends who played, well, all of them. Before CoH, no MMO even remotely interested me, and some actively repulsed me. After CoH, I tried a couple of others, and never made it past a couple of months of play.
I literally cannot think of all the things I will miss. The next few days will be spent making sure I have all the memories, recordings, screenshots and logs I can manage to gather. (I have a very large chat log history saved .)
I am sad all our time here is ending, but regret my own time here not one little bit. It has been a truly amazing ride. I truly thing that those who worked on this game, past and present (until today, I suppose) to have made something that was such a big part of the lives of so many people for such a long time.

I also have been here since day 1 (even still have a few day 1 characters) I can't believe that this game will no longer be here for me. It breaks my heart.
And if anyone is wondering how long City of Villains has been out, it's been this long, give or take a few days.
Just for laughs
