Quote:Just got the news, I've been playing on and off since Issue 1. I can't believe it's over, this feels like SWG all over again. Maybe I said my goodbye to this game a long time ago, but I always thought it would be around.I will deeply miss City of Heroes very much.
I feel quite upset over this, over 8 years i have played in the COH universe.
Its always been my backup plan when things get stressy at work, or when I feel like ignoring my significant other. As a matter of fact I was bragging to a friend how City Of Heroes still have that je na sai quas missing in so many games created now.
I will miss respecs having a meaning and hunting in perez for the first time and the Icon store opening and doing hami and fighting the giant clockwork during the synapse tf and brickstown and badge hunting - Striga island - croatoa, the wonderful season events and the way supergroups once really meant something, something real.
Goodbye, I will miss you.

Goodbye City of Heroes, thank you for the wonderful memories. -

SG Name: Six Degrees
Website: Coming Soon...
Leaders or Recruiting Officers: Minuett, Kaila Blackwell, Screaming Mimi, Rock Meister, Xtreme Havoc...
Preferred Method of Contact: In-game (email, tell)
SG Description: We are a fun group of people who like to help one another. We are based on the idea that everyone is only Six Degrees from a friend. Currently we are accepting members of all levels and archetypes. We have every archetype represented in our group and have members that range in level from 7 to 35. We don't tend to RP but we do not discourage it. And finally we are a rather active group with someone on at any given time that is willing to team up or at least talk with you. -

Now I will make an argument that a single enemy build can be just as powerful as your AOE builds but I will admit that I don't tend to go after groups of +4's by myself (especially if there is a Lt or boss).

I will have to respectfully disagree with you.
While a single target build may be enjoyable and playable, it can't match the AOE Juggernaught that a Fire Blaster can be.
In Solo play your going to aggro an entire mob anyways, so why not kill them all in a shorter amount of time ? The entire group drops faster when your using fully slotted AOEs, so it is damage mitigation.
In Team play, you can reduce entire mobs to a fraction of their original hit points in seconds, making them easy pickings for the rest of your team. All the Bad Guys drop faster and more of your team stays vertical.
Single target draws less agrro to you and that's about it.

This is true, to some extent. Now if you play without any planning and just rush into large groups I imagine that that kind of build would be needed (this isnt meant to imply that any of you do this but thats what that build seems to be for). But I've found that in the teams Ive been on they generally don't need me to kill everything, in fact a lot of times they want to kill stuff too. This makes my two hit kills (I usually go after the Lts and Bosses first who do take three-five hits) good enough to thin the group so that the others can have fun and not worry about face planting.
Secondly I don't like cone powers they are to imprecise, and fireball just doesn't do enough damage alone. If I want to take all the agro on me, then I should be a tank, not a blaster. If a fire blaster is suppose to be a juggernaut of offensive force that has the sole job of taking out groups that just doesnt seem to me like that much fun. If I want to take out groups that big I'll use inferno. Im not trying to flame in fact I am all for diversity in player styles, I just have a different one from you. -
When I first started playing a more experienced player told me to stay away from AOE's so I did... almost completely. Now at 34 I find that although I kiss concrete occasionally, I am able to kill very fast with very little agroing me, my kill to agro ratio is like 4:1. Now looking at you all I find that I have a rather unconventional build, and I wonder if perhaps you might be looking at the AT as something that can only be used one way. I can solo missions, I can join 8 teams and not only survive with a kill count of like 30-50% of the enemies.
I will admit that if Lt's or bosses get too close I can die if I don't gain some distance but isn't that the way of all blasters (mind you this is only if I can't kill them first which I do most of the time). I am at work so I can't provide a comprehensive list of my powers but IMO there are some powers that are being neglected that are an integral part of my build. Whereas I have almost completely forgone powers that do AOE except for fireball (and to a lesser degree rain of fire although it is not slotted and I rarely use it). Now I will make an argument that a single enemy build can be just as powerful as your AOE builds but I will admit that I don't tend to go after groups of +4's by myself (especially if there is a Lt or boss).
This is what I do know is in my current build.
Flares 6 slotted (dam, dam, dam, dam, acc, range)
Fireblast 6 slotted (dam, dam, dam, dam, dam, acc)
Blaze 6 slotted (dam, dam, dam, dam, acc, range)
Blazing Bolt 6 slotted (dam, dam, dam, dam, dam, acc)
Fireball 3 slotted (dam, dam, acc)
Hasten 1 slotted (recharge)
Hover 3 slotted (flight speed, flight speed, def)
Health 6 slotted (health, health, health, health, health, health)
Stamina 6 slotted (endurance recovery x6)
Rain of Fire 1 slotted (dam)
Flight 5 slotted (flight speed)
Aim 1 slotted (recharge time)
Build up 1 slotted (recharge time)
Inferno 3 slotted (dam, dam, recharge time)
Unless Im attacking with flight I rarely ever run out of End, and Im fully recharged for the next mob after very little down time. -
Thanks for the link on Why Nerfing is Good, I don't think I would've looked at them that way without hands on developer experience or a much more varied group of games. In fact some of the major threads that I've been looking at lately deal directly with the I5 nerf issues, it seems to me the thing about this game is that they do try and fix things that are broken.
Anyway it was definately an interesting bit of information that made me think about the subject from a different angle... Thank you. -
Thanks so much for this thread... I am really fuzzy on how binds work and this has helped a lot. And no I'm not dead
