I bought Paragon points in the last week and now that the game is shutting down, i want my money back. Who and where do i send my complaints?

Don't worry, that info should be posted next week or two. NCSoft hasn't even acknowledged that they are closing CoH yet on any of their master websites. Not even a PR.

I was wondering the same thing, so I sent in a support ticket to NCSoft about it.

The response I received was:

Quote:
For refunds of unused time or unspent Paragon Points, we will be contacting those players directly with information. Please watch the website for any official updates as soon as they are available.

This is really bad business practice.

To find out on the forums or from other players in game that CoH is closing down stinks. We should all have had an email from support about this as soon, if not before, this news was leaked.

I have sent an email to support asking for the return of the unused portion of my subs - which will be 6 months come 30th November. I suggest that anyone else who has prepaid for playtime they will not get, do the same.

I have a question about the Paragon Points.
I'm on a time card plan and that'll give me 400 PP a month.
I bought two 60-day time cards in august and entered the serials in my master account so I would be able to play as a VIP till December 5th.
I wonder if I will still get my 400PP a month?
I was planning on buying the Nature Affinity Power Set, but did not have enough PP. So any idea about Paragon Points anyone?
I still want to try this power set.

I bought $15 worth of points literally the day before the announcement. I e-mailed asking about a refund specifically for that but did not get any response.

From all the evidence, we found out about the same time Paragon Studios did that the game was being shuttered and they were losing their jobs. There was no news leak. They made an official statement.

This happened during a holiday weekend. Patience. Refunds will be a part of the shutdown process.

NCSoft corporate or NC Interactive have yet to put out a press release. Paragon Studio did because obviously work would have leaked out and it's best to find out directly from them. Also several MMO news sites have yet to pick up on this, likely because they were at PAX and it was a holiday weekend.

I suspect next week, the week after that the latest, we will here about the official plan to spin down the game and reimburse those of us who aren't going to be able to use the entire subscription we had paid for. I would prefer cash/credit rather than a GW2 code and their version of points.

Considering the fact that I PAID for my copy of COH and PAID for Going Rouge and I am paying a monthly sub, I feel NCSoft needs to refund me every dime I've already paid.

I assure you I would not have spent the money and time on this game if I had known they would shut it down lie this, that they would FIRE me and tell me they won't take anymore of my money.

Nnnno, you've already used what you paid for. You can only get refunded for what you haven't/can't use.

I'm all for refunds on unused paragon points, or subsciptions that renewed before billing was shut off, but this is crazy talk. Yes, noone wants to spend money on a ship that's going to sink, but you are no more entitles to a refund for past used money than those crazy people that wanted a refund for all the money they spent on the game when it went free to play.

NOTHING lasts forever, someday even WoW may die (although not likely from any game that claims to be a WoW killer). Your subscription payed for a month of gameplay, and before this month, each and every single month you payed for, the service was provided. You payed for CoH? you GOT CoH. you paid for GR? you GOT GR. And you've had them for years. There was no warranty or guaranty that claimed that the service would be available until the end of time.

You are not entitled to a refund on a DVD box set of a season of a TV show because the network cancelled production on any further filming of the show. If you pre-ordered the next season that will never be delivered, sure, you get a refund on THAT. You are however entitled to be upset with the network, and let your voice be head that you, and many others would happily keep watching the show and buying the DVDs if they would just greenlight its continuation. Beyond that, the best you can do is look back fondly on what was.

Agree with what The Grim Heaper said. The only thing I would expect to be refunded is the unspent portion of the $50 worth of Paragon Points I purchased about a week before the announcement (go figure - I'd never bought more than $15 worth at a time, and as soon as I decide to buy the $50 package...)

Heck, there's really no point in spending what's left. I've already purchased all of the costume bundles, and every powerset except Staff Fighting and the new Nature Affinity. I was gonna blow it all on SuperPacks hoping for more AT Enhancements. Now, why bother? Really no point in trying to advance my characters now.

Pathetic attempt at an analogy.

Here's a better one: Let's say you love House. So you buy all the season's of House on DVD. Then Fox not only cancels House, but they remote activate software that erases all your DVDs so you can never watch House again.

That is what NCSoft is effectively doing.

If I want to play Civ2 I can loan it on my PC and play it. Age of Empires, Star Wars Rebellion. Heck if I go out and get a old PC with a floppy drive I can still play TIE Fighter.

But once NCSoft pulls the trigger I will NEVER be able to play City of Heroes again. Even though I bought a physical copy of the game I never really owned it.

I take issue with that. And yes, I am still bitter about House.

You never owned the game, they never said you owned the game, that was an assumption on your part. You never bought rights to play the game forever. You bought the privilege of leasing their product while it was functioning. It says in the contract (paraphrasing) they can end your participation at any time, for any reason; this includes closing the game.

Have you never participated in the end of an online game before? You're throwing a hissy fit over stupid assumptions.

I'm not assuming anything . I am taking issue with the whole concept of "licensing" media. This goes back to divix vs dvd . I believe if you buy something it's yours. Media conglomerates feel they own it and they allow you to license it, but they can recind that license at well.

Kindel infamously erased copies of 1984 for example.

I am aware that ncsoft only licensed the game to me. Take issue with them pulling the plug and making the game I bought invalid . I owned it.

Unlike Kindle NCSoft isn't "erasing" the installation program you bought off of your computer. They are merely shutting down the part that's on their end. You can keep the software you bought installed on your computer for as long as you want.

You also knew going into this that what you were buying couldn't run on it's own as a solo game without access to NCSofts servers.

So suck it up buttercup. Caveat Emptor.

At least one person I know renewed multiple accounts shortly before the announcement.

If were thinking of the same people they had just renewed yearly. I do hope they get their money back.

You bought the physical media to quickly install the game and a time card with some swag.

The game itself was never sold to you. Nor was it promised to you in perpetuity. You have been paying for access to the game. And, prior to Freedom, if you stopped paying, you stopped getting access to your virtual "stuff".

As I used to say years ago. "Rent to pwn".

No, that is not in any way valid.
"Pathetic attempt at an analogy." right back at you.

Short answer: Tough.
Get the law changed if you don't like it. The purchase of the game and your subscription fees for time in the past are over and done with. NCSoft has US law backing them up on this. The only area in which you deserve a refund are in relation to funds paid for services NOT YET rendered (i.e. if you paid for a subscription that extends past Nov 30, for example).
