Fond Farewell From Sister Flame

Greetings folks:

Sister Flame just got the news about City Of Heroes and we decided we should toss out one more message before the lights go out.

First off, thank you to everyone for giving my daughters (Jemgirl, Sister Flame and Princess Rose) a wonderful, safe place to play and grow up. This sandbox we call CoX allowed by girls to play make believe with others and taught them it is great to love superheroes.

Second, thank you to the devs for making Sister Flame feel special, especially War Witch. She still talks about the time she got to visit with War Witch (the real one) and all the little things the devs have done over the years to make Sister Flame smile.

Also, a special thanks to the Klickity Klak Posse.

As I look back over the last seven years, it is hard for me to just call CoX another game. It helped to teach Sister Flame to read, make strategic choices and gave her a bit of comfort when she needed it. To sum it up, CoX was not just a game, but an experience.

It's hard not for me to smile as I look over at the 11 year old as she blasts people on a first person shooter. I can still remember the little 4 and a half old girl climbing into my lap to steer my toons around. I can still hear her yelling to get those "Klickity Klaks".

In closing, no need to worry about Sister Flame. She is a little sad, but she understands that all good things come to an end. She has her momentos in her treasure box (signed comic books, custom action figure) and she has the luxury of telling people that "I am kind of popular in City Of Heroes".

From my family to yours, many thanks I offer. If you see a Sister Flame or some variant of it on the net, don't be afraid to ask if it is the one from CoX. She gets around...

Thanks for telling us about Sister Flame way back when. That's still one of my favorite threads, and one of the stories I like to tell to people about how cool the people who play the game are. Best of luck to you and her and your other kids -- I think y'all are awesome.

ALSO: "Takes Care of Pets" is still one of my favorite names for a character ever.

Glad to hear she's handling it better than most of us.


One of this game's crowning achievements (out of many) is the little things like Sister Flame that bring a family and community together.

Sister Flame read all your responses and thanks you all very much. She always walks a little higher after reading the forums posts.

She wanted me to leave you all with a few more random thoughs.

- Her favorite superhero is the scarlet speedster, but prefers watching/reading about the other brand of comics.
- She is a big Doctor Who fan and hopes everyone is watching the new season.
- Takes Care Of Pets is still her all time favorite names for toons.
- She hopes all the CoX "makers" can still have jobs to make money.
- She is really going to miss the ski hills.

I feel like Sister Flame was the focal point of the best of this community, and it is hard to read this without being emotional.

Wish her and her sisters the best of luck in all of their future endeavors. Tell them to not forget the time when they could fly or jump really high or run really fast or teleport way over there. Tell them not to forget to fight evil where ever they find it. And tell them not to forget to help those weaker or smaller than themselves. Tell them to be the hero of their own story.

The stories of Sister Flame were always some of the best ones on the boards. And her AE arc was a blast to play through. ^_^

Wyll, please tell Sister it was a pleasure watching her grow up. I only got to run on a couple of teams with her, but she was an absolute pleasure to have with me. I don't think I ever ran into the other girls, but my best to them as well. But I did love reading about the girl's adventures, and progression over the last several years. I wish them well in all they do, and hope they achieve every dream they have.

Thanks for making this thread. I thought I had done everything I wanted to in this game, but this reminded me I still haven't played Sister Flame's AE arc.

I'm going to miss the ski slopes as well. Damn.

...Now I'm crying, damnit all...

I've never really posted too much on the forums, mainly just lurking, perhaps a random post here or there, but mainly a lurker. I haven't even had the words to post in the official announcement yet... But, one of my favorite threads ever was the one I read about Sister Flame's exploits and I had to comment.

It was great reading about not only how this game helped Sister Flame learn to read and love superheroes, but showcased what a great community we have (not had, have, the community will still live on in some way...) in the game.

This goodbye post is maybe the sweetest and the saddest so far. I'm in tears.

I mentioned you guys, Wyll, in Pinnbadges last night, as I was wondering how you and the girls were taking it. That thread you started about Sister Flame was just pure win, and we were all the richer for reading it and the updates.

I will never forget the cackling out loud moment when I read about the girls hunting villains in Recluse's Victory with the pillboxes. FUN!

With Flame's love of first person shooters growing by the month, I think it is safe to say we will be in Planetside 2. Tyrol or Wyll will be my handle. I imagine Flamester will have something recognizable.
