Welcome to the forums (and to the game as well)!
Great post. I love a friendly, respectful intro!
And you pretty much hit all the marks (I've never heard anyone bring up the friend channel [I forgot it even existed] and the 50=free slot is likely a no-go, but everything else is pretty much a commonly agreed upon desire [even if it is not something that is likely to happen [underwater zone]).
The hairstyles under hats and helmets is pretty much always one of the first things people will notice/realize/desire (for those who love making costumes).
I'd love it if they'd make three or so styles for each hat/helmet. Not that this is a small amount of work, but hey... I still would like to see it!
- One no hair
- One short hair
- One long hair
It's been suggested... I hope maybe some day we'll see it!
Anyway, not to make it sound like we never get new nice things... they love to surprise us with awesome stuff from time to time. It's just the things that haven't come down the pipes that we can still clamor for.
I love seeing someone who's played a couple of months offering such thoughts and suggestions. I think it is a great thing to post and I thank you for doing so! -
I don't recall seeing this change in the patch notes or mentioned anywhere before...
Unless i am mistaken...
Let's just /bug this then. -
Well, speaking generally, you often see a failure to grasp the concept of slightly less price may net more profit.
It is difficult for some.
However, whether or not that is the case with the CoH Boosters, I can't really say.
I'm willing to venture a guess that the Party Pack could have netted equal or greater money in at a lower price.
It's just a guess though. Since I don't know how many people actually did pay for it nor how many would have if it were lower.
People can say whatever they want.
Like me... I raced a zebra down Madison Avenue today, but lost because I stopped in at Starbucks to buy some shoe laces.
I imagine that all of the previous Super Boosters sold rather well.
Honestly, I think the Complete Collection Extras Booster from Going Rogue was a bit under-priced (rather nice of them, for those who bought the regular Going Rogue or didn't buy the expansion at all).
You got equal or greater amounts of costume pieces and auras and a power for a cheaper price than the Super Boosters.
However, I've seen several posters claim that this Pack was a rip off (Of course, you can never please everyone and there will always be complaints on gaming forums... So, it's hard to get a proper read on things).
Just my scattered thoughts... -
Yeah, this thread is apparently one of those dark alleyways you accidentally meander into among the generally betterthanthis community forums we have here.
I'm sorry I bothered to post in here, let alone ask for actual intelligent, helpful advice, hehe.
Tech... we can turn around and leave or nuke 'em... -
Medium answer:
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!
I love it! Should be perfect for jumping on (for any large or small increment of time you have to spare) and pounding, blasting, or whatever manner of beating you want to give to your enemies! Or simply for the ol' super hero (or villain) happy fun make believe time!
Not to mention some new mission options since you've been gone... Power Customization, new colors for your powers and some other options for removing effects or changing some animations... More costume parts...
If you liked the game before, you're likely going to love it equally or more-so now.
Welcome back!! -
While I pretty much always formulate ideas before ever logging in with the character...
The order and methods of working everything out are sometimes different and can bounce off of each other (a bit of back and forth in the creation process, where one decision changes/affects a previous decision and that can cause a few chain reactions before the final concept is ready).
I don't ever worry about power efficiency (as I am not convinced there is a much need in this game to worry about such things... even if there were, I likely would still not worry about it).
However, I do sometimes choose powersets first as there may be some that I want to play or have never tried and I think I'd find it fun/interesting.
That never takes me as far as making a character (Well, nothing more than a temporary side jaunt to level 4 or 6 on an alternate server).
Right now, for instance, I want to make a Stalker... Likely Ninja/Ninja.
I haven't found the right character for it yet though. I've been percolating some for a while and am almost ready, but it hasn't hit me with enough inspiration to burst through the No alts unless you really want to Boundary yet.
I spend inordinate amounts of time in the costume creator and save save save tons of costume files (If they had a weight, it would be several tons, I am sure).
I also have several fully realized concepts and costumes ready to go, if I feel the desire/inspiration to actually use up a character slot and play them.
For the most part though, I have enough characters to enjoy myself and don't see that changing any time soon.
Umm... did that answer anything? -
It's really not important to me either way.
I don't see being an Incarnate as the only way for characters (players and NPCs alike) to be extremely powerful and I don't really think anything has changed along those lines.
Each and every character origin is equally terrible and great, so I'm not going to judge, hehe.
As for my own characters thus far...
I do not plan to include the Incarnate lore into their powers.
Since it's been a solo ride through it, for the most part, I can decide on my own what I want to include and/or discard.
It was interesting... As I was making my first run through the arc with my main, the Electric-Knight, I had trouble soloing the Honoree (After taking out Holtz) and called in two SG mates for some help.
While doing it, one mentioned to the Electric-Knight something along the lines of asking him if he was going for the power of the incarnates as well...
Without missing much of a beat, the Electric-Knight shrugged and said, "Well, this mender guy seems to think so...".
He doesn't really trust the credibility of the Menders nor such outlandish stories involving himself.
What the truth ends up being... I guess we'll see!
I share a bit of E-K's doubts, to be honest
As for growing in power...
When that actually happens to a significant degree, I may come up with something else... But, thus far, Electric-Knight has constantly been growing in power as he gains more control and experience with his powers.
So far, nothing has changed along those lines.
(He did have a bit of a lull in gaining greater power the past year or so... but that worked out perfectly as he had some major story arc stuff take him down several pegs for an extended period of time)
So... I tend not to delve into these things between characters. I don't assume that someone is taking all aspects of certain story arcs into play exactly as how the game states things.
Inspirations can mean many different things to different characters just as anything else within the game, as far as I am concerned.
If someone wants to talk about Incarnates from their perspective, that's fine with me... but all unwritten (and oft-typed ones as well) rules of engagement apply just the same as beforehand.
To me... the Incarnate System is the video game's end game system... And mandates nothing more. When they announced the End Game system, they said the working title was the Incarnate System... I was a little disappointed when they decided to stick with that, but I understand why they did and I think the story works out okay.
I just have never believed in everyone needing to stick to such things for their own characters.
Just my 0.5 cents (tax man took the rest). -
It's really a tough call and don't envy having to make that decision (I feel fortunate for being around for all of them coming out and being able to get them as they came, for the most part).
It really depends on your tastes and what you're looking for concept-wise and such.
I don't think there is much for ice themed characters.
The Mutant was my first thought, as I have seen some people use pieces of the Organic Armor set to be crystalized/ice costume pieces.
The Origins Pack does not have costume pieces, but has the five capes and 10 auras... One of the auras is cryogenic and works nicely for cold/ice-themed characters.
My personal opinion of the packs' highlights:
Cyborg - Some nice, shiny and versatile parts (Many shoulder pieces and two nice chest detail pieces... and the head details are pretty popular as well). Overall, some nice parts that can be used together and/or individually.
Magic - The high-collared cape is nice if you have anyone who would use it. The Baron jacket is nice as well (Females get the magic bolero instead).
Science- Has a number of nice Head Detail 1 goggles/head pieces and the ability to change height and body types at the tailor.
Martial Arts - The Robes are nice, the helmet details can be used for a number of things... The two boots options (And multiple options within those choices) are pretty nice and versatile and the shouldermepads are also rather versatile.
Mutant - is a bit specific and not so much individual pieces to be picked out for various concepts. Of course, that's not entirely true... It just depends on what concepts you may come up with. And again, it may work well for you.
Mac Pack (Valkyrie Costume parts)- Nice shiny feathered armor pieces and a chest detail piece that is quite versatile. Nice shouldermapads as well.
Hope that may have helped somehow... Best of luck! -
Quote:Just to make something clear, Thunderstrike is KB to everyone around you. lots of damage to your target, but only minimal damage to everyone else. Why are you debating the usefulness of Thunderstrike, a power that does lots of PBAoE damage and gives you mitigation in the form of knockback? Take this as soon as you can...
Still, I love it. The PBAoE knockback is highly useful and the damage can finish off minions that have already been brought down by Ball Lightning and/or Short Circuit and whatever else (Or just knocks everyone down while you finish your target).
The windup may be a bit slow, but it's dramatic and fun (in my opinion)!
Lightning Clap... Yeah, it is the only power in the Primary and Secondary that I've never fit in. I've thought about it a few times, but I just don't have a nee for it. And yeah... if it were Mag 3, I might have given it a shot.
Lightning Field... I took this at level 49 on my original build (Actually, I've only respec'd just once on the Electric-Knight and that was just last week to get my three new powers with inherent Fitness!).
So, yeah, I took it as my final power as sort of a throw away and RP concept purpose... And I used it a few times when things were getting intense and i was doing a lot of jumping in the middle and unleashing... And I like it.
It doesn't do a lot... but it does add up a bit.
When I am jumping into the middle of everyone, targeting the boss, laying down short circuit and power sink and ball lightning... lightning field is ticking away damage on everyone and helping out.
It's basically a dot on top of all the rest of my damage.
I'd not want to use it at lower levels, I don't think... But on my completed build, I am liking it. It's a bit of a drain and I only threw a single endurance reduction and nothing else into it. I'll turn it on and off when I want.
Voltaic Sentinel... I did not take this in my original build. I made a second build a while ago so I could play with it a bit. I never really fixed up and used that second build though... So, only just this past week did I add V.S. to my powers and i have to say... Much like with Lightning Field... It adds some more damage while I am doing what I normally do.
So, on my finished build... it is bonus damage coming in. I've definitely noticed the difference while taking out tougher opponents... Just that little bit extra damage makes things a tiny bit quicker. I'm liking it.
I do not think Lightning Field nor V.S are necessary! If you don't have other powers lined up that you really think/feel you want more... get them. You should enjoy them. (Just my opinions from my experiences)
EM Pulse... I took this at 47 and thought about ditching it when making my new build last week. I mostly kept it because it is EM Pulse and Electric-Knight should be able to do that. Plus it's additional damage on robots (Which I always forget about)... and there definitely have been a few near team-wipes over the past few years that I have escaped/prevented by hitting EM Pulse (Sometimes after Thunderous Blast... or just while Thunderous Blast has not recharged yet from a previous encounter).
I really don't like powers that have such crazy long recharge times... However, this is a cool one if you have the power slot to spare.
I felt like I did, since I did not go for the Fighting Pool.
Right now, I am happy with my decision and I have definitely used it as a get out of jail card in the past.
The interval of every foe around you being disoriented can afford you all the time you need to get re-situated and hopefully save the day!
If you keep a blue in your insp tray... you're generally one click of Power Sink away from filling your endurance bar at any time, so I never worry about powers that use up my endurance.
I've never gone for IO sets or anything in my builds. Just Standard IOs and a few combos. I recently created a largely Frankenslotted build to free up some slots and cover more ground.
Zap Zap!!! -
I was going to search for another thread to talk about this a bit, but here goes...
I've only soloed this mission twice so far.
On my E3 Blaster and on my Mind/Psi Dom (note: both have hover).
Both times, the lava ended up being my friend.
The first time:
E3 Blaster
I have three holds, full range and melee attacks, plus endurance sapping (and witty quips).
All of my holds stacked on him along with any endurance sapping were as beneficial as my quips...
So, okay... damage him!
Alright... He could out-damage me and his clones were really spawning a lot, quickly.
Easy to take out, but Trap Door would heal up quickly and each time I'd two shot his clones, it was like starting all over again...
So... the problem became...
My 4 luck inspirations would wear out before I could knock him out!
(Since I went through all of this, sort of piecing it together as I went, I'd really like to try this solo again [now having an idea of what I am in for]... is this available through flashback?)
Eventually, my Havoc Punch sent him into the lava and I was able to take him out (we went to a Mexican Place on 4th st... You don't want to know the real reason for his moniker).
On my Mind/Psi Dom...
I was really surprised that I could not lock him down with Domination up!
I spent my initial assault trying to stack holds on him... and got beaten.
So, I used four lucks and wasn't able to take him down quickly enough before he took me out again.
I eventually got him into the lava... and he actually beat me again (Can't remember what went wrong... I think I was out of Insps and didn't go to the hospital... I was being bullheaded).
I returned to find him ready to talk instead of fight (I killed him anyway... my Mind/Psi Dom is like that).
So, for the record, I am honestly, generally, a pretty good gamer.
I will sometimes limit myself due to RP conceptual reasons, but they rarely interfere with being capable enough.
My powers are slotted well. Not with IO Sets, but level 50 Standard IOs.
(Just for the record, I'm not lacking in damage enhancements on my damaging attacks... as my not being able to take him out quicker than the Lucks wear out might make some question)
I checked on the forums, and it seemed to me that I was following the suggested tactics for squishies fighting Trapdoor. So, I have been rather puzzled as to why I wasn't entirely successful (although, I was successful in the end, anyway).
I'm eager to get my brutes and.or scrappers to level 50 just so I can do this arc now, hehe.
(As to the Holtz/Honoree mission... I have zero problem with taking out the rikti from afar and/or pulling the EBs individually... that's pretty easy for me... However, while I was able to solo Holtz [with much difficulty] I have not been able to solo Honoree with either characters. No holds, no nothing has worked for me... only bringing 8 lucks and staggering two uses of four at once to put him down worked [however, both times, I called in for back up from friends])
Just curious if there's anything obvious that I am missing or if there is any helpful advice! -
This feels weird coming from me, but...
I have to say that I am not sure adding more room is a good idea.
Do I have to trim my bio (by huge amounts, nearly every single time) to fit it in? YEP!
However, I've noticed that bios just seem to be longer and less fun to read the past year or so.
Could be me, sure... It is funny though, because I just brought this up in-game the other night and I wasn't the only one that was thinking that it seemed like more bios used to be shorter than they are today. *shrugs*
As to making it more of a driver's license form...
I'd really say NO to, for this reason... For those who want such a format, go ahead and make yours that way.
I've seen plenty of awesome bios with such a layout and it is great for some characters.
I've also seen tons of great ones that do not follow any such format and I would absolutely loath to think of limiting and/or forcing any sort of format unto every character's bio.
Just my thoughts and opinions.
I wouldn't complain about getting extra space, by the way, hehe.
Honestly... If they were to increase it, I'd hope not by doubling it!
Maybe adding 25-50% would be good.
So, no Mandu, you are not alone!
Also, Lothic... haha, while funny, that really has nothing to do with anything, haha.
(Also, I had heard they did increase the bio space. That could be untrue, but I had assumed, until now, that it was true. We need confirmation!) -
I've had a bit of trouble with Trapdoor the two times I have soloed him.
I did succeed eventually though (more on that later).
Quote:I honestly don't think this is a simple matter of "pulling is cheapo cheating and we're not allowing it".I can defeat Trapdoor on any one of my 50s by going toe-to-toe and running off to defeat each bifurcation and coming back to Trapdoor.
I have also defeated Trapdoor by getting him in the lava.
I have also defeated Trapdoor by pulling.
Pulling is now disallowed.
Why?
Shall we make a list of all the other missions where pulling makes the encounter easier and handing that into the Devs so they can 'fix' that 'exploit'?
I think it is more about the game mechanics not following the concept well enough.
StormSurvivor says it well:
Quote:I think it kinda makes sense that he doesn't follow you. If I had that kind of power, I wouldn't willingly follow my enemies away from my source of regen. However, I can see what some people are getting at about restricting some strategies.
I think an alternative I'd like to see is having his clones somehow come with him; follow him into the hall or something, so you'd have to keep him on the move to flatten his regen. If that's the kind of strategy you want to use.
Having it so rigidly odd, in that his clones only spawn in the lava room and won't leave/follow him, makes no sense and just performed as a nonsensical, clunky video game snafu.
Instead of implementing ways for Trapdoor to get the regen out of line of sight and/or have the clones follow him...
They're cutting corners and preventing us from pulling him out of range of the clones and whathaveyou.
Personally, I am perfectly fine with this change.
I'm not really sure what is unclear about the reasons for this change. -
It's true!
Just like the King Size bag of candy made my tummy ache!!
Also, I have never two slotted accuracy... That explains why I never ever hit anything!! -
For the record... I do not use sets. Just Standard IOs and starting to work on my new Frankenslotted build...
I've been debating with myself and flip flopping about this the past week, hahaha.
In the mean time, I've accrued enough shards and components to go two routes, if I want to...
With just the Common Boost, I'd benefit from Recharge (and even Accuracy) more than the damage. And it'd be cool to notice the effects with the Common Boosts right off the bat (As Recharge or Accuracy might do)... Although I do have a few powers that would immediately benefit from the Damage... my Lightning Field only has a single End Red slotted and that's it (no damage).
However, as we move up in the Alpha Boosts... Not only might I notice the damage a bit more, but the End Mod will apply to practically all my powers as an E3 Blaster.
So...
Yeah...
I have decided to go for Musculature in the long haul...
But grab Recharge for the Common Boost, as well, for some immediate effect.
Then see how the Uncommon and later Musculatures play out for me.
Umm... at least, I think...
Having my holds come up a bit quicker is not a bad thing at all... -
-
Well, for what it is worth...
I think making the Info Terminals bring up the Help Window is a great idea!
Addendum:
Or
Clicking on Info Terminals would enter the command: "/tell @Arcanaville, Help me, Arcanaville, you're my only hope!" -
Yeah, my experiences have been different so far.
I've actually never done a speed TF (some sped up bits here and there maybe, but not true speed TFs).
In fact, I was just mentioning how I want to join in on a Speed ITF some time, because I have no idea how people are doing it in the times they have and I am entirely curious to experience it, hehe.
I don't think I've ever done an ITF that came in under 1.5 hours.
I've joked that it is entirely because of me, but that's not really true.
All that being said...
Quote:Baronesa (and likely some others here), we should do some TFs together some time!Personally.... i have done both... and to be honest...
i prefer a slow paced completly IC TF, same as when i do missions... there is nothing better than watch the different personalities and interactions... and typing one liners while fighting requires a lot of practice... specially when they are responding to someone else... in a friendly banter
Anyone think we could try hooking up fully IC TFs in the TF global? -

Quote:Pretty spot on...You know, you have a point. Next week my company is hosting a Christmas party for 20 four year olds from a local day nursery. Taking Paragon Studios' lead, I suggested that to make the day more fun, instead of buying 20 presents, we only buy ten.
Then we'll put the kids in a circle, toss the gifts in the center and let them scramble for them. Oh, and just to make it even better, we'll have volunteers physically restrain a few of the kids so they have no chance of getting a present whatsoever!
I'm sure some of the kids will be disappointed and a few will probably cry, but to those kids I will say, "These presents are free! You are not entitled to one, so chill the hell out."
I just know it's going to put everyone in the Christmas spirit, because after all that's what the holidays are all about - peace on Earth, goodwill to men, and giving gifts to a few fast and/or lucky people while leaving everyone else empty handed.

"fair" for everyone? This is for people who visit the forums, visit their twitter and facebook sites.
As has been said a bunch of times... they do things in-game as well.
Some cool ideas have been suggested, but I don't know the feasibility of adding in some way to award codes randomly or by clicking on random doors.
neat ideas... but a world of difference to implement than what they are doing here.
Hehe... -
Picking on a girl for liking Star Wars?
Haha, when any of those boys are older, they will look back and think how stupid of a thought that was.
Haha, I'm tempted to joke about how little an army of geeks can positively affect a person's reputation...But seriously, the only geeks I see in such a story are the ones picking on someone for something so silly.
EDIT:
Just actually read the article...
While I wonder if a First grader wrote the article (seems the standard these days though), that brought a tear to my eye.
It's a shame people seem to want to dig out those differences and bash others for it.
I was lucky in that I was raised to have a large amount of confidence in being different and I felt more comfortable talking to adults as equals, really.
If a kid tried to pick on me, it wouldn't have mattered quite so much. And I was lucky to not be picked on when I was really young (except by my best friends... what else are they for), but I think back on some of the kids that were picked on and even I did some of it myself.
I know a lot of adults who definitely suffer certain personality traits and faults due to being picked on when they were kids.
It's a shame that so much confidence can be shattered by such stupid things.
And it is a shame that people seem to be herded into conformity... trampling over the oddities.

Very, very nice, Henri!! That's brilliant, hehe.
And YAY for Elec/Elec Blasters...
Hmm... the Electric-Knight's costume is pretty darn simple, but I do have some alternates that I've been meaning to get good screenshots of. -

That makes me sad...
It has no ((double brackets))...

And here I thought this part of Marcian's post was totally untrue and I was going to call him out on it and finally see the end of Tobay's miserably mundane meanderings.
Bah!
