Speed TF's
As soon as it became known that shards would drop in them.In addition to special salvage for the incarnate system.Faster you get it done the faster you get your reward.
Thank the devs for doing that.Personally I very rarely run tfs unless I need the special salvage.I do rikti raids and mishes for my shards though.
My suggestion start setting up your teams and explain to everyone what you are doing..who knows you might start a trend.
And usually, most PUGs don't go with that, since there is always that one person on team who keeps nagging that people are slow and that he can solo that one room to make it go faster.
I dislike that person. And that person who always goes ahead of the team as if just trying to show off how awesome his or her Brute is. You know who you are...you!!! Grrr!
I imagine this has only become worse with the introduction of Incarnates.
Edit: I pretty much do what Larker said. I lead TFs very frequently. But only with my SG mates and their friends or anyone else I know that isn't an obnoxious efficiency expert (we still complete TFs fast, but no one tries to ENFORCE it, and no one's obnoxious about it. We're just that good! We pretty much kill anything in our path and clear all ambushes!). I like to call them FunTFs!
My problem is that PUGing is my only way to team. In my many years here, the people I knew and played with has dropped to 0. I guess I'll just keep my eyes open for DKTF's since they're always fun.
Best bet is to make new global friends...strike up a conversation with a good player see if it's a fit and add 'em to your global. It's how I do it.
When did the speed TF become so commonplace that they became the rule as opposed to the exception? It's getting to the point where the 1 required team activity is no longer worth doing because there is no teamwork.

I can't imagine that the 28 minute Tin Mage we ran last night utilized LESS teamwork than the three-hour one someone else ran.
Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

By no teamwork, I am referring to not requiring the aid of most of the team to complete missions without AV/GM fights. I just did an LGTF where I stood at the door because I don't have invis and couldn't make it to the speedsters. I only helped kill Hro'Dtohz and Honoree because I was teleported to the final room.
Personally.... i have done both... and to be honest...
i prefer a slow paced completly IC TF, same as when i do missions... there is nothing better than watch the different personalities and interactions... and typing one liners while fighting requires a lot of practice... specially when they are responding to someone else... in a friendly banter

Speed runs come from trying to get to the end reward asap to get more reward for time spent.
Since shards drop from kills I have seen many more "kill-most" SFs to maximize shard drops.
I have had the opposite experience with TFs and i19. Once we found out that shards drop, I have done more "kill all" TFs than ever before.
Before i19, the biggest reason people did speed TFs was that you received Merits for the TF and getting done quickly meant you could spend your merits quickly.

this has been the opposite of my experience. Shards have made fewer speed runs and more killing during SFs, imho.

Namely WHY we weren't takin our time tryin to get as many kills as possible to get the maximium amount of chances to get shard drops.
Personally I think doin a rikti run is the way to go for gettin shard drops last one I did was 8 shards and 700 merits not too shabby for 30 some odd minutes.
Most of the tfs I have been on have been a rush to get the end prize. It's funny you should mention this too because it's something me and the missus talked about while doing a tf last weekend.

How is that different from eveyr raid and dungeon in ever game ever since Ultima Online? Taskforces have always been like that since Reward merits (I.E. meaningful rewards for doing them at all) were added to the game.

I have no problem with either , but since I have several toons that need a specific TF badge , I may cut corners at times ( have someone stealth to boss , glowie etc ) but if I have never ran it , I want to take my time to get a good feel for the next time i go through it .
Yeah, my experiences have been different so far.
I've actually never done a speed TF (some sped up bits here and there maybe, but not true speed TFs).
In fact, I was just mentioning how I want to join in on a Speed ITF some time, because I have no idea how people are doing it in the times they have and I am entirely curious to experience it, hehe.
I don't think I've ever done an ITF that came in under 1.5 hours.
I've joked that it is entirely because of me, but that's not really true.
All that being said...

Anyone think we could try hooking up fully IC TFs in the TF global?

Please don't think I'm bashing kill-all TFs -I enjoy them just fine occasionally- but I surely don't think it requires more teamwork to accomplish them.

A speed kill-all would be fun.
Lower level SFs have no real incentive to be turned into anything but speed runs. The drops from the mobs don't sell for that much and the inf from them is not very much either. So merits are the main reward, (other than the fun of running it).

Speed Runs were popular when the only reward they were going for was the merits at the end.
Now, with shards dropping, I've seen much more, kill them all, TFs.

PM me your Global and I might take you on on some of the relaxed happy fun times ITFs and LGTFs I run! Though I haven't run one in a week or so. I'm focusing on leveling a character right now. But I could still hook you up! |
This.

Yeah LGTFs and ITFs are less about speed runs and more about the speed of clearing it all. My last ITF I was with Eat_Me and Lady C, we did the TF relatively quickly but we still managed to clear good portions of each mission out and had gigglefits when Imperius chose the stalker (me, respectively) to follow and kill-and-mame.
Of course lower TFs, expect speed runs. Shards nor uniques from from anything bellow 50 approved so Posi and such haven't lucked out on this and honestly I don't mind it too bad. I'm in most TFs for the badge ******* so if completing a TF in 12 minutes via gimping the mission, as long as it doesn't burn me out and allows me to hit up the next following; I'm down for it.
I PUG but like another said, the friends I have when I'm on are either dedicated to RP in the D specifically or are not on when I'm up and about.
You removed me from your globals because I took a week of absence for Black Oops... -shakes fist-

New mission is grabbed, take some time to read the mission briefing, then help with the mission clearing/stealthing.

Now since shard hunting only applies to LGTF, ITF, STF, KAHN TF, LRSF and the Baraccuda SF I am sure there are still speed runs going on the lower level ones. And there are still the slightly uninformed or just completely STUPID out there that think they can use the same SPEED TF mentality on the high level ones and then complain because it takes so long to get all the shards they need. I took a 50 level Plant/Rad troller out tonight for her first shard hunting .. She had 1 Shard at the beginning of the evening from completing the Mender Arc the day before. I did a Kahn TF and while we did take out a lot more mobs than most of the KAHNS I have been on it was hardly a kill all but I finished with 5 more shards and an Dimensional Keystone. I did the LGTF and that was a Kill all .. finished up with a total of 17 shards (11 more) and added a Hero One DNA. I used 4 shards to build an Essence of the Incarnate and had a Musculature Boost slotted and 13 shards left toward my umcommon. All that took was about 3 hours and tomorrow I will hook up with an ITF and should be able to slot an uncommon.

Wendy~ I get what your talkin about and like I said in other posts in made no sense to me.
Until I found out that the core ppl running the tf only wanted to get the end salvage.
Hell even after the tf was over some folks stayed on to clear the map, it seems some folks are just speeding it to get their last piece of salvage to complete w/e they need.
Personally I'm for the kill all and it looks like the vast majority of the population is too, but, as always there is a percentage that make you wonder why they do things the way they do.
Hope this clears up what I was tryin to get across.
I don't mind as long as the TF is accomplished. Really speed run or not, if it's 50+ I'm still getting shards which means the more mobs you kill the more likely you'll get a shard drop anyways.
