More seriously, I really want to play with the new energy, but I can't decide what to pair it with. I *want* to pair it with illusion, but that option doesn't exist yet. I may just sit on it until illusion is finally proliferated in issue 17 or whenever.

Weren't we supposed to get more than just one round of proliferation? Seems like it's been quite a while since we heard anything about it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Blame Architect for it - it made I13 turn into I14, and as such it took 7 months instead of 4.

A Fire/Psi permadom is still the best AoE damage combo for Dom's. Imps , Fire Cages, Flash Fire, PSW, and Psychic Scream FTW!!!

Thorns might be a good a PvP choice now, but just doesn't cut if for PvE aoe, IMHO. But in general Dom's AoE capabilitiesies were limited across the board, not just in Psi. I have a feeling that was done to make building dom quickly, while not in battle much harder.

Fire/Fire is (and was) a good second choice. Plant/Ice (or psi) and Earth/anything, may offer some interesting possibilities as well.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Between Psychic Scream and PSW you might not even need Flash Fire - that's -100% Recharge on the critters.

If you want to min max it, you'd probably best off by just pulling either one of the end mod/acc or end mod/rech and slotting a vanilla end mod IO. That gets you to 95%+ end mod and retains the movement and hitpoint bonuses. The hitpoint bonuses are generally very desirable on a melee character unless you're already hitpoint capped in other ways (accolades, perma dull pain, tons of other hitpoint bonuses, etc.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I run the following on my 50s:

1 Level 50 End Mod IO
1 Level 50 Performance Shifter End Mod
    1 Performance Shifter Proc

Nothing more - can't spare the slots for a 3rd end mod.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Same here, and a 3rd End Mod IO's bonus is minimal anyway due to ED

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you Exemplar/Malefactor down then it makes a significant difference.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
I like it in my claws/sr. The defense is nice, and the other bonuses in the IO set are too.

I've never seen it go off, but I imagine it does when I'm not looking.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Healing Delivered Channel. Also I have my ToHit and Damage Bonuses monitored 24/7 on my Crab.

Note that if you're Storm secondary, Steamy Mist has Confusion protection in a wide radius -- it will almost always protect your pet. I've seen purple bubbles and strange behavior on Jack Frost for only a few seconds two or three times in a year. Feel free to use the proc if you've got Steamy Mist.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Or Tactics. That grants Confuse Protection.

Put it in FOLLOWUP at the start of your attack chain. When you actually would need a build up rather than in tt powers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Again, it comes down to how badly you need the 2.5% Defense to all.

You get more DPS equivalent out of it if you put it in fast recharging attacks - that's just how the math works out. You could slot it in KO Blow if you really want to max out its enhancements with the other Hecatomb set members, which might be defensible, but personally I'd put it in Jab or whatever.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Worth noting - if you are going to slot 5 Hecatomb's into a power, forgoing the pure damage enhancement provides the best bonus in nearly every case - this is in case you can't place the 6 enhancement (proc) into a faster recharging power - my DM/EA's build is so tight every slot must provide a set bonus.

    [ QUOTE ]
If you have 3 extra slots to spare having the rez 4 slotted with 2 50 common IO's each of recharge and cost reducer is the ideal, but by no means necessary.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Do not under any circumstances slot your rez. It does not take set bonuses. There is no reason to slot it. Do not listen to anyone who tells you your rez needs slotting.

If you're low on end, eat a blue then rez your mates. If your rez is recharging, hand them a baby blue, then hit them with HO+CM+Fort, all of which will be optimally slotted because you didn't waste any on rez.

Assuming a single Rech IO, and about 45% global recharge bonuses elsewhere, Rez should be up in 100 seconds, as opposed to 82 if you put a second slot and recharge in it. Is shaving 18 seconds off of what should be a very situational power worth a slot? I don't think so.

    [/ QUOTE ]

For What It's Worth, only Resurrect in Empathy refuses all set bonuses - Mutation and Conduit of Pain both accept end mod sets, Twilight accepts Damage, Disorient, and Slow Movement (and is VERY useful during Hami/Mothership Raids - such that slotting it for recharge makes sense then) and Elixir of Life accepts both Resistance and End mod sets. Not saying it's a GOOD idea, just an idea.
  10. Don't forget the Healing uniques ARE enhanceable, so any Heal enhances in the power (not set bonuses) will carry over (and end mod, if you put it into a power like Stygian Circle, Transfusion, or Energy Drain).

Yup..do a TF or trial, collect some merits, roll for a recipe. Also, if you didn't know, they merged the TF and Trial (pools C and D) into one roll.

That's for AE Tickets right? Not Merits?

Please go and read the blaster forum. Most blasters are NOT satisfied with how the Psi blast set works, its considered subpar aoe damage.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They love the mind secondary though, where their PSW lies.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Uh... What about their Psychic Scream? That's as powerful as a primary AoE for them.

    [ QUOTE ]

/Psi is chosen for one reason by most people: AoE damage. It's the only Dominator set with any significant AoE power at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Somebody needs to inform my /fire.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Activation times. The two AoEs in Fiery have a 5.67s activation time combined. In addition, they require repositioning and waiting on the longer recharge timer. PSW is set-it-and-forget-it.

If this is your first Dom, don't. If this isn't your first Dom, don't.

If you are dead set on this combo, via con dios I'll keep a candle lit for you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This. It's hard mode for Dominators. If you want to mitigate for a team of 8, in my teens and 20s I did role reversal - Using Crushing Field + Procs for Damage and Psychic Scream for Mitigation (-50% Recharge is powerful). But seriously, Wormhole is overrated IMO - Singularity is the only reason I haven't deleted Altimus.

Hyperstrike is probably thinking about the proc in force feedback, while early girl is talking about the recharge set bonus after 6-slotting with kinetic crash.

    [/ QUOTE ]

.... So is the proc in force feedback not working?? I have that slotted on other characters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It worked like 6 months ago on my Crab. Did I14 break it?
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Unless you're craving set bonuses and have the slots to spare, neither the rez nor CM need any but the base slot.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This. If you need to rez now - go get the accolade Rez power.

Fitness/Health or Willpower/Fast Healing is there the unique health IO's should go.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Passives are definitely good places for these procs, but self-(only)-affecting toggles (like Integration) are also good, and can, depending on slotting, actually be superior places to slot them. If you have access to both passives and self-(only)-affecting toggles that can take them, slotting them in the power that has the most Health slotting tends to be best, unless you feel that the set bonuses you'd get in another power would outweigh the extra Regen.

Note that these procs obey combat modifiers, and when slotted in foe-affecting toggles (such as Rise to the Challenge) the benefits they give will be affected by the relative level of the foes you face. If you face +level foes you'll get lower bonuses than usual, and if you face -level foes you'll get higher bonuses than usual. Since people more often tend to fight +level foes, slotting the procs in a power like this tends to be a bad idea.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There's also the fact that it won't work while you aren't in battle, so it won't help patch up when fighting something at range. Then again, 2 minutes is a long time...
  17. [ QUOTE ]
5% chance for 5 seconds is just too weak. If it weren't Unique, it might be a different story. But as a Unique, it's a waste of a slot. Unless you want the set bonus which 6-slotting provides, that is the only condition under which you should ever slot this thing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What about the fact that the proc cost me 1 million whereas the Dam/End cost 4.5 million?
  18. [ QUOTE ]
However, I'm fairly certain that the main reason that it doesn't currently work in an AoE is because then it would actually affect the caster (single target buffs don't for the simple fact you can't target yourself), and it may be felt that coupled with the rest of the +Damage and +Recharge buffs in Kinetics (and the End Recovery tools), that may be far too much for one set. And I can't say that I would exactly disagree with this sentiment.

It would be nice, but in consideration for greater game balance, it may just be a pipe dream.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not sure if this was brought up, but doesn't the fact that Grant Cover does not affect self say that it's possible to make this exclude yourself as an AoE?

Considering how rarely you'll actually see anyone slotting any of the resistant heals for +res, I'm pretty sure that there would be a significant shout for joy if he made the resistance unenhanceable and unbuffable and allowed the heal to benefit from outside buffs. But I doubt he will because that would be a buff to */regen and */fire.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Keep in mind that making the heal unbuffable also makes it un-debuffable. Quite welcome when fighting things like mitos. Not sure that I would welcome the change on my /regen or /fire if it meant that Reconstruction and Healing Flames were now subject to -heal.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You sure about that? I'm pretty sure I recall having Recon and DP reduced to nothing by green Mitos during Hami raids already.

[/ QUOTE ]Mitos don't have -Heal, they have +Res(Heal). They don't reduce your heal's effectiveness, they make you resistant to healing. An Empath hit with some Endocronic Blasts healing someone that was unaffected would heal for the full value, despite the "debuff".

    [/ QUOTE ]

Same way Absorb Pain works - it prevents you from healing by any means.

What "Unaffected by Enhancements and Buffs" prevents is a Poison MM using Weaken (or a Cold Domination's Benumb) from affecting your Heal - Envenom still works fine however.

attack could do smashing damage but be typed energy, thus going against energy defense. This is rarely the case, but it apparently did occur in the past, and there may still be existing oddities although I can't think of any right now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Fireball deals fire and smashing damage but is defense typed only as smashing, if I recall correctly (no time to check at the moment).

There are also things out there that have no damage type (positional typed only) or no positional type (damage typed only).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Other way around - it deals Fire Damage, but is typed Fire, Smashing, and AoE. (At least it was when I checked last year on my Blaster)

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Care to revise your statement?

I even checked in game to make sure there wasn't a discrepancy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then it was changed since then - I checked it out on my Blaster.

The problem with Energy Aura isn't that it's a bad protection set. It holds its own pretty well and has a few neat tricks you'll appreciate. The problem is that when you compare it to everything else, all the other protection sets are better in every way. Invul used to have the same problem.

If EA is a delicious slice of pie, the other sets are the same kind of pie, except the slices are bigger and they have whipped cream and a cherry on top.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Worth noting that an Electric Armor is inferior to an Energy Aura if the enemies are higher level than you - ElA only shines when it can apply it's End Drain.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
    Some quibbles...

For purples, I always leave out the single-aspect IO when slotting 5 of 6. Slotting the other 5 gives you near-ED capped enhancement on it anyway; the single-aspect IO is always overkill when slotting that many purples.

This is especially true of Gravitational Anchor. The hold proc in that set is pure win (though it does admittedly work better in AoE immob powers than in Chilblain). But even for other purple sets, the damage you get out of a damage proc is better than the percentage you get out of over-enhancing the damage.

The only exception would be Fortunata Hypnosis, where the placate is pretty much a wasted slot. Anything else is better than that proc, IMHO.

For Positron's Blast - I seem to recall this set is very, very light on Accuracy, something like 45-50% fully slotted. I wouldn't recommend skipping an Acc/Anything with Posi's Blast, even on an archer.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Skipping Contagious Confusion might be called for if it's Arctic Air and you don't want the 5% Defense. Skipping Armageddon's Proc is needed currently if you have Lightning Rod/Shield Charge (the proc will activate on you AFAIK).

Also - I skip either the Dam/End, Dam/Rech, or Dam/Rng in Posi's Blast (Rech is only skipped on my Crab's Suppression - it's end cost and activation time make it unfeasible currently).
