  1. Questions about team size, what kind of missions you're running, whether there is a tank, those I can understand.

Asking which contact it is, o....kaaaaaay, still understandable, but that's pushing it a touch.

Asking what other ATs are on the team, for a Kheldian it makes sense, but is getting into way too specific detail.

Asking what their builds are, I have to agree, I would have quit talking to him there too. Next he would have asked what pool powers everyone took and how many vet badges everyone had. And after that probably what color everyone was wearing.

I like to know what I'm getting myself into, but that dude was taking it a little too far. Once you're on the team you can see what build everyone is for yourself.

He should have stopped at team size, tank?, and mission type.

    PvP?

Ranged ATs tend to do better than melee ATs.

Melee ATs (generally) require more skill to do well with. Your Ice/Kin (assuming corruptor here) and Widow should be solid if you build them for it. Your Stone Brute will probably have issues.

Eh, try it out and if you don't like it, you're not missing a whole lot.

Explanations? Yeah my cat is on fire and my mother dropped a whole bunch of acid and kidnapped a school bust full of penguins and well I just have to go. That is so helpful.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hell, I don't care what the excuse is. The more outlandish or silly will make me smile and eliminate any irritation. At least they care enough about their fellow players to speak up.

I may even throw them on my friends list because they made me laugh when they left.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Heh. My wife has used the "cat's on fire" reasoning for an extended AFK. I say reasoning because it wasn't an excuse, it really happened.

We have a fluffy white cat, with an equally fluffy tail. He's also an idiot. My wife had a candle burning while playing CoH and the cat wandered across the table swishing is tail back and forth.

Apparently he swished his tail a little too close to the candle flame. Did I mention this cat is an idiot?

So my wife smells burning hair and glances over to see our fluffy white cat standing there looking at her...completely oblivious to the fact that the tip of his tail is now merrily blazing away.

So she types "afk cat's on fire",getting several lols from the team, and spends the next minute or two chasing the cat so she can put his tail (which he has now noticed was on fire and was trying to run away from) out.

So, if someone says their cat is on fire, don't be so quick to write it off as a flimsy excuse, their cat may actually be on fire!
  4. Occasional mini-games as part of missions? Sure, that I can go along with.

Even a mission tied to the Hellion arsons in Steel Canyon where you actually enter the building with a Fire extinguisher and free trapped people. That I could definitely go along with. If you have Ice based powers you wouldn't even need the extinguisher.

More options on mission types would definitely be cool. There is already a stealth-type mission in one of the RWZ arcs, I forget exactly which one, but it's there.

Adding games just to add games is and will continue to be a bad idea. If it actually has something to do with being a hero or villain, sure. Gambling doesn't fit that bill. Neither does playing pinball in Pocket D.

"Hey, have you seen SuperUltra Guy around lately? He's really been letting his neighborhood go to crap!"

"Nope, haven't seen him, but he has the top 6 scores on the pinball machine in Pocket D!"

So, minigames that relate to what we're supposed to be doing, yes.

Minigames that don't relate to what we're supposed to be doing, and can be found elsewhere online, no.
  5. The Transporter.

All 3 had some good scenes in them, I liked the first one the best though.

I read through all the dev posts here and something doesn't seem to make sense.

Why would they transfer over Traps/AR rather than Thermal/Fire?

It has been said that the sets were picked due to "ease of implementation", but isn't a set that uses a whole bunch of different devices/sprites/models more complex than two sets that only use colored powers without separate devices/sprites/models to animate?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The sets are already made. So the ease would be the same imo.

I think TRAPS/AR was chosen before THERMAL/FIRE because Dual Pistols is coming to Defenders, and thus people can have TRAPS/DP Defenders.

    That's my guess anyways.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Also, if you look at defender blast sets, the one thing they all have in common is they have a secondary debuff effect of some kind. To-hit debuff, knockback, slow, -res, -def, -recharge. Assault Rifle has a -def component.

Fire has no such secondary effect.

One of the reasons defenders probably don't have fire yet is because they trade damage for a more potent secondary effect. As an example: sonic defender will debuff resistance with their attacks more than blaster or corruptor will. The same holds true with -def and slows, and pretty much any secondary effect. The better comparison is with Corruptors because they share almost everything. Defender Dark Blast debuffs slightly more than corruptor dark blast.

Since Fire has no secondary effect, defenders would lose damage potential and not gain anything in return for it.

A possibility for a secondary effect that can be added to Fire Blast would be -damage. It would be thematically appropriate, if you're on fire you aren't focusing on hitting as hard as you can.

It would also add some much needed mitigation to Fire Blast for blasters. It won't slow down attack rates or make them less accurate, but if they are doing less damage you will live longer.

Edited for clarity, I was half asleep when I first posted this

Which one of the Rad/ attacks is it that makes the War of the Worlds sound effect when fired?

Actually, can anyone confirm, is it the exact same sound effect?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you're talking about the solid beam that came out of the (eyestalk?) on the ships and disintegrated anything it touched, then the power you're looking for is Proton Volley or X Ray Eyes. (The attack is Proton Volley, the pulsing sound the stalk makes sounds a lot like X Ray Eyes)

It's not the exact same sound effect, but it's close.

  8. My main is in semi-retirement now. I still play him, just not to the extent that I used to.

This is mostly because, after 3 YEARS he finally ran out of content that I can do solo. There is stuff I can do still, Ouroboros TFs, a couple of the Shard TFs need done, I have badges to get yet, but he has ZERO normal contacts left that he can get missions from. That put him in semi-retirement. I still log him in for my aforementioned killing sprees, and if someone needs a scrapper for a TF he's my go-to guy, but other than that I have other characters I'm focusing on.

After 3 1/2 years I finally have a controller I like playing (Fire/TA, I don't play him like most Fire controllers, he doesn't have Hot Feet and hovers at range) and a defender that needs 4 more levels before I start soloing GMs (Rad/Sonic of course )

And with the next issue I'm sure there will be something new that Claws can do, until then he waits.

I'm all for new content, but I don't think the game really lacks content. There's at least 7 TFs blueside that a 50 can run. I'll agree that redside needs more, but I don't even have a villain in the 40s yet (look at that, something else I can spend time doing) so it's not really an issue for me yet.

I'll reiterate my previous statement: If you are that bored with the game as it stands, then play something else, because the game is unlikely to change enough to keep you interested. At least not overnight.

Also, if the devs release a whole lot more level 50 exclusive content we will run into even more of a problem with people PLing to 50, burning through that content in a few weeks, and making the same "I'm bored, we need more to do" post they made a few weeks earlier. It's kind of a double edged sword and I'm sure the devs are aware of it.
  9. I concur. More missions that are about more than just "beat this guy up and collect this random glowing object, then lead this other person out" would be an awesome thing.
  10. ClawsandEffect

    Lolz

I love the fact that stalkers are getting Broadsword.

I can finally make my "slasher flick villain" stalker.

Huge guy comes out of nowhere and hacks you with a big chunk of steel?

Sounds like a slasher flick to me
  11. I'd even be okay with just slightly increasing the drop rates of them.

I've gotten 2 since IOs were introduced, I know people that have been playing just as long or longer than me that have never gotten even one.

The problem with them is that they are in Pool A (I think) and there are so many other things you can get that the odds of getting one are pretty slim.

Maybe move them to Pool E (minion only drops, like the costume piece recipes) They would drop more often, but not so often that we'd be flooded with them.
  12. If we can get the Tsoo "katana" villainside I plan on making a slasher flick villain.

I would use Broadsword/Willpower for that. And I'd be taking the rez. Using the Michael Myers school of stealth, where the key is just standing very still and they won't see you.

Come out of nowhere and hack em with a big chunk of steel?

Sounds like a slasher flick style stalker to me

    NPCs in SG bases

    That would be kinda cool.

Would answer the question of "Who runs this place when we're not around?"

I'd say limit it more by so many allowed per room, based on room size. Extremely small rooms wouldn't allow any at all and very large ones could have 3 or 4.

Add a control panel type thing to tech teleport rooms that a NPC tech could be operating. A set of monitors near power and control items that a tech or mage could be watching. Maybe a couple guards near the entrance.

Have generic tech or magic types that cost a moderate amount of prestige and the ability to make custom characters for more prestige. Also, have a separate limit for NPCs so it doesn't count against any limits the room already has.

This would go a long way toward making our bases feel like people actually work and/or live in them.

I'd be fine with the OP's idea if they were indeed easy questions. I think it'd also help if alot of the MA loading tips were removed. These days EVERY loading screen I get is an MA Tip. Until the other day when I finally got a tip not related to MA. Either 1. I have odd luck with the tips 2. There are ALOT more MA tips than normal ones, or 3. The MA tips are set to appear more often.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was thinking of extremely easy, universal questions. Something that applies to everyone and doesn't require number crunching to get the answers to.

I wasn't saying every level, just the levels that give you a badge title. So, level 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50. maybe 2 or 3 questions. Possibly even just one question every 10 levels.

In the case of AT or powerset specific questions, I'm not so keen on them anymore. I originally said that maybe a question could be asked about the tier one secondary power of your specific powerset, but I'm not sure how you could ask a question about a power that most people ignore (depending on secondary).

I just thought it would be kind of a neat idea for there to be some sort of test when you reach a badge-granting level.

An alternate idea could be to connect the questions to the badge, and not have it interfere with the leveling process.

Maybe have a thing pop up at the top of the trainer question list that says "Earn your title!".

I still like the idea, but I do understand people's reluctance to have a quiz required to level.

Edit: Sorry about my outbursts yesterday, I wasn't having the best day and it came through in my posting, I'm usually not that volatile.
  15. I don't mind being told my idea is a bad one.

    I DO mind being insulted.

Sure, I went a little overboard in my response.

But can you honestly say you never react strongly to someone insulting you?

Had you left out the first two sentences of your first post, I would have accepted it as you disagreeing with me. No big deal.

But since those sentences were there I got a little pissed about being insulted.

A lot of times it isn't what you say, but how you say it.

I realize I probably made myself look like a dip[feces] in this thread. Oh well, it is what it is, and I'm not going to cop out and start deleting posts to cover it up.

Everyone screws up and says things they don't mean, or were poorly thought out occasionally. I'm not going to pretend it didn't happen here.

See, how about that? Someone who admits when they say something dumb. Don't see that too often (especially on these forums )

I'll try not to go off the deep end again. This really isn't worth getting that mad over.

Aura: I amended the question to read: How many levels above you can you first equip an enhancement?

The answer being 3. Whether it is a TO, DO, SO, or IO doesn't matter, you can't equip an enhancement that is more than 3 levels above yours.

You do make a good point about it being difficult to word, as I'm not sure how to phrase it so the meaning of the question is clear.

I still think the short quiz is a workable idea, but I didn't realize how difficult it would be to come up with universal, non-subjective questions for all level ranges.

I knew the answers to all the questions I posed off the top of my head. Perez connects to Steel, Skyway, Atlas, and Galaxy. You can equip and enhancement up to 3 levels higher than your combat level (you don't need to train to slot them), and Focused Fighting's base defense is 11.25%.

But, that doesn't mean everyone would know the answers. I have an analytical mind and a sharp memory, quizzes like that are easy for me. I seldom stop and remember that not everyone's mind works like mine. So, what would be a great idea for me, may not work so good for others.

Edit: Happy Birthday Aura! I missed that when I first responded.

Stop being a crybaby. You had a terrible idea and people told you so.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, if people disagree with an idea it is automatically terrible, regardless of my opinion, and I'm being a crybaby for attempting to defend an idea that I like.

And giving up on it while explaining my reason for giving up on it is also considered being a crybaby.

I'll just stop having ideas and agree with everyone else's opinions. They have to be right because they outnumber me.

    Am I getting it yet?

In every other case where I was disagreed with in this thread, the person doing the disagreeing did not include a personal attack as their opening statement.

    You did.

They disagreed with my idea because they didn't like it. Fair enough. I've disagreed with enough ideas myself that I'm not going to expect everyone to praise my idea just because I think it's a good one.

But you felt the need to insult me before even expressing your opinion. Or rather, your insult WAS your opinion.

Maybe I was annoyed that what I thought was a good and reasonable idea was universally slammed and reacted with a little heat. Instead I I'll just accept that everyone else's opinion is more valuable than my own. I'm clearly wrong because everyone said so.

Oh well, it's a terrible idea, everyone said so, and they can't be wrong. Anyone got an idea that I can blindly agree with to atone for the crime of thinking for myself?

That damn ClawsandEffect, he's always coming up with these asinine ideas and then whining about it when people disagree. He's obviously a crybaby, and he thinks that everyone should agree with his idea because he's the only one that knows how to play the game.

There. Feel better now that I agree with you?

(Edit: I apologize to the people who disagreed with me without insulting me in the process, this post is not directed at you. I respect those who have a differing opinion and present it civilly. I will, however, respond to a personal attack)

If I can't change out the geometry for Spines then forget about it.

Just say no to banana melee!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Apart from Spines being able to use the geometry from Thorns, and Thorns being able to use the geometry from Spines (both of which can be colored), there will be at least one other set of alternate geometry/FX.

As for Martial Arts, the alternate animations we have right now are mainly punches. The idea was to provide you guys with a way to make the classic, fights with their fists and feet, super-hero that many have been asking for. That includes a new animation for assassin's strike (Assassin's Blow?).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Awesome, that was one of the things I was wondering about, thanks for clearing it up.
  18. ......Never mind.

I guess the game asking simply answered questions that can't be ignored is asking too much.

I should know better than to suggest anything in this forum, since anytime someone does it is usually immediately shouted down by people that would rather not be inconvenienced by something.

And if I had simply said "Something should be done about new players not having basic game knowledge." without making a suggestion, I would have caught flak for wasting everyone's time with a pointless post.

It's almost always a lose-lose situation for anyone making a suggestion.

Edit: I'm giving up on this one. Replies have made it clear that no one thinks the game testing your knowledge before you advance is a good thing, so I'm just going to drop it rather than have a 15 page long argument in which everyone and their grandmother tells me how bad of an idea it is.

    Peace.

    Claws
  19. The Focused Fighting question would only be asked to someone who was currently playing a Super Reflexes scrapper. A regen would not be asked that question.

I chose Focused Fighting because it is impossible to skip the power and you can find the information simply by opening your enhancement management screen. The information in question is in parentheses next to the enhanced value.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Okay, I guess people would rather have a game full of players who have no idea what they're doing than spend 15 seconds answering a couple questions every 10 levels. Not even hard questions, it's not like I'm suggesting you pass the SAT or write a college term paper.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That's what's called a "false dichotomy". Just because people aren't fans of your particular suggestion doesn't mean we don't like what you were striving for. I too would like to see people experience the game outside of AE, but your quiz isn't a good solution to the problem.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And I apologized for flying off the handle in a later post.

I'll just have to accept that this is an unpopular idea. I still like it, but no one yet has supported it.

But...just because something is unpopular doesn't make it a bad idea. The abolishment of slavery caused a war, but almost everyone would agree now that it was a good thing.

(I am NOT trying to bring an argument of racism into this discussion, I am just giving the best example I can think of of an unpopular idea that turned out to be a good thing)
  21. [ QUOTE ]
I don't understand why people think we need all these tricks to fix things. Simple solution -- level-lock the Architect buildings, restrict exploitable mobs. No more level 50s PLing teams of lowbies, no more enemies that grant disproportionate risk vs. reward.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have actually given a very good reason why the devs CAN'T level lock AE in another thread.

If they did they would be guilty of false advertising. The AE box on store shelves states explicitly that you can level from 1-50 entirely in AE. If they change that, their box is now lying.

Believe me, some enterprising lawyer who smells a quick buck WILL sue them for false advertising. In a country where someone can get a settlement because they broke their tailbone slipping and falling on a drink they themselves spilled not 30 seconds earlier*, someone will take on a game company for lying to them in a heartbeat.

So, level locking AE is not an option for that reason. NCSoft would either have to spend money on a legal battle, or spend money recalling all the boxes that have false information on them.

(*True story, I'll try to find a link.)
  22. If it goes nuts indiscriminately Demon Summoners will be persona non grata on teams. If it's THAT powerful you'd be foolish not to take the power, but teams would be very unlikely to want you around.

I would be very annoyed if I hit Rest after a tough fight and my MM teammate's pet one-shots me.

Bill's suggestion is probably the most workable way to do it.
  23. A single Intangibilty IO set that only drops in pool A would be okay.

If more powers would accept them, even better.

They will probably still be vendored or deleted, but the same thing happens with most of the Taunt and Fear sets already anyway, so it wouldn't make a whole lot of difference there.

So, sure, I guess. No reason not to give it a 4 piece IO set if there is something that can actually be affected by it.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
So its a waste to put bonuses in both.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Untrue. If you have 20% melee defense and 10% smashing/lethal defense it will work as follows:

The 20% melee will give you defense against anything flagged as a melee attack, regardless of damage type.

The 10% smashing/lethal will provide defense against any attack which is flagged as that damage type, regardless of where it is coming from.

A punch thrown at you is flagged as melee and smashing and will only receive the 20% defense number because it is the higher of the two.

A bullet fired at you is flagged as lethal and ranged, so the melee defense is useless, but the 10% defense to lethal comes into play.

So, no, it is not a waste to gain bonuses to both.
