There's absolutely nothing wrong with Stalkers scrapping it out for constent Melee damage on a team. There's also nothing wrong with a controller who is built to do so playing in Scrapper range. It's the whole purpose of my Fire/Rad controller (and my Kin/Elec Defender as well).

Of course there are things in the game which are wrong (or rather hinder rather than help the team). But the two examples you've chosen above don't particularly rank amongst them.

  3. What URL are you using?

The uk. one has never worked correctly for me, it seems to forget / lose my session cookie on a per page basis. The boards.cityofheroes.com URL works properly for me however.

Yep, Dark Melee likes having lots of enemies close by and then killing them off one by one. It's one reason I like my Dark/WP Brute so much, he wades in, gets as many enemies close to him as possible then Soul Drains and starts 1-2 shotting them.

Both Dark Blast and Dark Melee are slightly oddball sets but both can offer excellent synergies with other sets beyond what more conventional sets can (Dark Blast/Cold Domination for example sounds like a really decent combo).

Stone Melee is the only set I've tried Burn with, first on a Tank years ago, now remade as a Brute (Brutes are more enjoyable to play). End Usage hurts though (another reason I went Brute, you can afford to slot for End Reduction and let Fury add the damage).

But Ice Melee, for Ice Patch & Burn, is a well known combo as well.

Yes. Fault > Burn > Tremor (aka "Shake N Bake") basically does a good job of keeping them fairly well clustered in the flames.

Weirdly though you have to do it in that order, if you do Tremor > Burn > Fault then a lot of the time Faults knockdown doesn't take effect (as they're still getting up from Tremor) and they then do the annoying "High speed stun stagger" all over the place instead.

In any case it's not an exact science, there will still be some which manage to stagger out of Burn range before it has a chance to flambe them fully (although you do get Seismic Smash as well eventually).

Besides thematically correct, this is also a limiting factor for the MM. Inherently, the damage type he does is the same as his pets. Giving a thug MM dark blast for example would upset that balance.
Especially considering Thugs and Bots MMs get minions which grant +Def, which using this system you could couple with Life Drain. Why would a Bots/Traps take anything other than Dark Blast for the added -ToHit and the self-heal?

The game assumes you're following the "good" storyline, so evil can't be anything more than just a momentary, meaningless deviation. I think Fallout 3 handles it the best. If you're a dick and you murder 3Dog, the game gives you a middle finger and tells you to essentially figure it out yourself, then. Not that that changes anything, since Rivet City is a frikkin' LANDMARK. I would have SO loved it if dear old dad was hole up in a cave somewhere you'd NEVER find unless someone told you, and that you'd be SOL if you kill the only person who could know, but that's just me.
Actually I thought the opposite, I was incredibly disappointed with now hacknied Fallouts approach is to Good and Evil. It's incredibly unrealistic. I mean look at the first big Good/Evil decision you make in Megaton. It's completely OTT and rather silly. The only saving grace for it was the consequences for making the "good" choice on others.

Mass Effect does it well, you're not real, baby-eating, evil as a renegade, you're more ruthless and willing to make sacrifices to achieve your goals.

So when I arrived in Sharkshead the first thing he did was say "Hey, who are those guys in the check shirts and dunagrees. I'll teach em a lesson..."

Swiftly followed by "OMG, what are they throwing. AAAAH. I'm on fire. AAAAAH. My Zombies just melted. AAAAAAAH" *trip to hospital*

Dear gods please let there be 20s and 30s Praetoria content. They're the bits I most loathe, especially villains side. Sharkshead and St Martial *shudder*

Not that Founders & Bricks are much better of course (level 20s heroes content is grand, plenty of stuff to do and up to 3 different "zone storyline" zones to visit).

My Claws/Elec Brute is so happy she's hit 35 and can flee St Martial for the RWZ now. Some new 30s content would be lovely.

But NRG Resistance is capped anyway and the Neg NRG resistance isn't very much at all (7.5%), so I don't see what you'd use the extra slots for?

I agree that you want it earlier than 49 though. I respecced at 22, removing it and then took it at 24 and even that hurt a bit from random knockback.

[/ QUOTE ]lol, you do realize this guide was posted almost seven months ago, right? And it's not the only one of its kind? In fact, there are other guides with more information contained in them? And that getting big profits off the market is not rocket science, and many people figured it out without a guide? This just makes it more accessible to those less inclined toward marketeering (*raises hand*).
    *Also raises hand*

My Level 33 Brute is now about 25 mill richer thanks to this guide (7 months later).

Plus I made another 14 mill by first crafting and then selling a -Knockback IO which dropped when I finished a mission yesterday too (instead of 8 mill for just slapping it up as a Recipe as I'd normally do). THen, to celebrate I bought a Forced Feedback Recipe and crafted it for Shockwave.

Thanks 4. As a way to get a chunk of Inf to start Frankenslotting my Brute this is a godsend!

Lil Danny DeVito : Baby New Year

Cornflakes or Flakie : The name Carnifax ended up with on a PuG with a load of happy Elflings one night (if you don't know what an Elfling is you're doing well)

  19. I'll stick with CoH until something better comes along. So far nothing really has stuck with me. WAR I didn't really enjoy. WoW I enjoyed even less. In fact I'm starting to think I don't really like MMOs at all really, and CoH just bucks that trend (a lot of which is to do with how individual you feel coupled with the fact you aren't limited to pinging away at one or two enemies at most or you die horribly).

Biowares forthcoming offerings are the only things likely to steal me away that I can see on the horizon.
  20. Erm, check announcements?

It's been live for a week, slowpoke
  21. Personally on my Claws/Elec I've taken the Fitness pool for Stamina (my current build is similiar Exxars, but with Hasten & SS instead of Leaping and Primary powers taken earlier and some secondaries like Lightning Reflexes taken later), but I'm planning to respec it out again once I've got Power Drain slotted up (at level 37). Won't need it once I've got Power Drain ready to fire somewhere every 22 / 28 seconds (with / without Hasten) and Energize discounting my End costs at least half the time. That gives you room to play with and squeeze the fighting pool in (in the mid-20s), as well as being able to take 3 of the Mu Blasts for End Draining.

I love Shockwave on this toon. Mass knockback gives you breathing room a lot of the time and I've just stuck a Forced Feedback into it as well which gives me some nice snaps of really fast recharge (which means Spin comes back up quickly after a Spin > Jump back > Shockwave chain). Eviscerate is nice when you get 2 or more enemies hit by it but it is skippable too. The long animation means it's only really useful when your Fury is already high and you can line up a few enemies to get hit by it. That's not too tricky to pull off but on a frantic team it can be difficult in the heat of battle. When it does line up well and 4 enemies collapse from it it's glorious!

Personally, after playing 2 Brutes with no God power I'm deffo taking Power Surge. The difference between ~58% Smashing & Lethal Damage Resistance and Capped resistance means you can take about 4 times as much damage with it running. Sure it's got a nasty, nasty crash but it's better than being dead

I'm level 33 now though so a lot of this is conjecture rather than hard proof but I reckon it'll work.
  22. Hmmm. I was thinking "Weird, I can't see an image. I'll check what my Opera browser has as Blocked Content".

And lo and behold Opera had pre-blocked it for me for some reason.

That's a good lil Opera, minding your master. Have a biscuit. Good boy.
  23. After doing horrible things to hordes of Longbow and PPD in Mayhem Missions last night I'm in the "Leave it alone" camp again. I love it when they come through doors into buildings, all clustered and ready to be knocked into the corners...

It's also really nice when things go a little wonky and you've gotten yourself trapped by enemies yourself. "Outta my way jerks".

"Rain stoof on me please Mobs"

My level 33 Claws/Elec is sitting on 40 million now, without me even trying and decked out with dropped Common IOs (plus the pick of a few set IOs which dropped for me too). For me that's a load of Inf without much effort.

I've also just discovered the joys of Claws/Elec + Carnies. Scream for me ladies...
  25. The only Tier 9 that I have experience with which I'd like changed slightly would be Lightning Storm. Since it's stationary generally you don't get a huge amount of use from it, one or two blasts and then you move on, it's out of range and it sits there grumbling to itself. And it costs a lot of End to summon.

Giving it an initial AOE blast (or a Ranged Chain Lightning) would make it a bit more useful in general PvE play without making it much more powerful in static fights.

Or maybe use the "Henchman TP" code for when Henchies get far away from it and apply it to LS, but with a much smaller trigger distance, so it would rematerialise above you occasionally as you move on.

EMP, EMP Arrow and Dark Servant are the other Tier 9s I've had (including as Controllers and Masterminds) and all 3 are great powers which feel like Tier 9s.
