CoH - never gonna give you up.
Yes, it is, and as much as I love this thread for stating such a fact, it's still a comparison thread, and therefore: IBTL
On the related note? I've tried out both Champions, Aion, and WoW since I've started playing CoH. Different flavors/playstyles: 4. Different Games: 4. Active Subscriptions: 1.
I think you can guess the 1.

Trust the computer. The computer knows all.
Not really, as he doesn't say "this is why WAR is bad and CoH is good", he says "I tried something else and didn't like it".

Either way... LOLCO
I shall keep my reasons for not subbing to WAR in the WAR forums where they belong. I dont wish Mythic any ill, hopefully my criticism will be consyructive.
CoH is like a mamber of my family now though. It keeps on surprising me with how good it is. Even as i came here today to say this, i noticed tge tgread with the news about the map for instances showing the last 10% of mobs on cleR alls. Its like the devs start every team meeting with 'how can we make our players happier today?'
all i need now to make my CoH perfect is a gf who i can play it with

Here's as good a place as any to mention sth which i've thought about in the last few days. The reason why i tried WAR is because i had a hankering for some sword n sorcery type action. I still do in fact. Not as a replacement for CoH, but as a supplement.
But maybe there's room in CoH for some dwarf on orc action too. Marvel has the Savage Land, doesn't it? A new zone with more fantasy content would sate my hunger for some gandalfing, i reckon, and tgen i wouldn't stray into the arms of some skanky pretender to my MMO love

Well, for me, Aion's becoming that "Second MMO." I've made two or three threads with things - fully disclosed - that I think COH could do similarly (such as the "bonus value" IOs when crafting commons, similar to getting to craft a green or blue item over there) that seem to have been generally well received.
It does, for me, reinforce the notion that people who post that servers are "ghost towns" aren't considering the impact of instanced missions. Heck, I find myself *wishing* for instanced missions on occasion over there, just so I'm not competing with a bunch of other people on a hunt or gather. But I am thinking more non-instanced outside "draws" for people in COH may be interesting - of course, the events we have that do this tend to burn out quickly (SC fires, GMs, etc.) or are annual things (the upcoming halloween event.)
I will say I *really* appreciate our board layout - old AND new - over theirs. >.<
Damn you, OP... you made me Rickroll myself...

Well, the new Halloween stuff is very promising, I think - they've added tech to the game that allows multiple and linked objectives in a zone with invasion style mob scaling - so this new tech could be used for non-event stuff, like open missions - they could even be using the Halloween event to test it for something in GR.

I love this Captain Dynamic's word (in my mind, i think about CoX) : "Awesome..."
Someone called?
I actually played WAR for a bit when I burnt out on CoH. It has some things that are much better than in CoH; fun pvp, zone vs. zone combat, open quests and more. Different, but not for everyone. I'm still a paragon addict but if I could play a 2nd mmo it would be WAR.

Don't even know how I'd function on another MMO without some form of Sidekicking. We've been spoiled I wager.

I've been thinking the same thing Maybe more dynamic zone events and such, like stopping vandalism or a turf war

The Steel Canyon fires and Skyway City raid could be expanded a bit, but keep the same idea behind them - same goes for the Paladin construction in Kings Row.
Lusca in independence Port could be worked into an open event, as she's not quite like the normal GMs, and already has a "sequence" attached to her, with having to defeat the tentacles first, then the head - making her aggressive and attacking the docks would be good.
Peregrine Island has a whole sialnd of GMs, along with a deserted research facility over-run with Rikti Monkeys, so there's already something there to use as a base for an open mission
In a similar way, the Banished Pantheon coming out at night on Talos Island could be made into an open mission with them trying to summon some spirit - or possibly make the Tsoo the focus of the open mission in Talos, and make the Pantheon ritual open mission be linked to Adamastor in Dark Astoria instead.
The Trolls damming the Red Rover in the Hollows is also a good base for an open mission, and the Circle of Thorns in Perez Park could be used for an open mission there, connected to all the people they're using in their rituals.
Terra Volta could have something to do with the reactor, and the fight between Jack and Eochai in Croatoa could be expanded into an open mission.
Boomtown could have the fighting between the Council and 5th Column as the base for an open mission, or something to do with Babbage - although the Paladin one in Kings Row might make it seem too similar.
Crey's Folly could have something based around Jurassik, and Eden could have somehting with the Devouring Earth too - maybe something linked to the Hive nextdoor.
Faultline could have something based on the Lost atatcking and kidnapping the construction workers there, or Arachnos and Longbow on the other side of the dam.
Founders' Falls could have something linked to Crey, as they should have an open mission too as they're a big group in the game.
Galaxy City could have something for Vahzilok, and Atlas Park could have a Hellion vs Skulls turf war open mission.
The Shadow Shards could have one or more open mission, one for each zone there, like Rularuu attacking an outpost, for example.
The Sewer network could have somehting involving Hydra - but the way the zone is laid out might make any sort of open mission hard to add, so maybe a random Hydra open event could spawn at sewer entrances around the city zones.
The RWZ already has a raid there, so it might not need an open mission - but Cimerora could have an attack on the town by Romulus' forces.
A random attack by Nemesis Mole Machines in any city zone would also be good, as Nemesis gets everywhere, and shouldn't be limited to one zone only

I always feel like this when I try another MMO. I don't know, I guess I was pretty lucky to try City of Heroes as my first MMO, but every time I try another, all I can think about is "Why doesn't it have this?" "Man, I wish I could do that!" I've tried a lot of them, and it seems like pretty much all other MMOs are cut from the same block. How and why is too long to discuss, but suffice it to say it's a big thing.
Here's the thing, though - we have it pretty good here. Sure, people always complain, but we have a LOT of things here that we take for granted and never appreciate... Until we play a game that doesn't have them. It just never fails. It's really the many small things that truly make the game for me, and why I don't buy into marketing that it's "like City of Heroes, only better" because even if it has new stuff, there's no guarantee it has the good old stuff.
And as to the Fantasy content subplot, I agree - a fantasy zone or faction would be nice. Comic books in general and City of Heroes in particular have a pretty broad genre. We have a lot of contemporary and sci-fi elements, but are relatively light on the more fantastic of Fantasy elements. Having a bit more couldn't hurt.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

I just don't want to come home to a slog, I work a lot I want to hop in, have some fun, then hop out without feeling I need a commitment like I owe my workplace.

But really what keeps me with CoX is it doesn't seem to require the time sink to be fun. The other games I've tried seem to involve this massive time sink before the game is even remotely fun.

I've been playing Warhammer Online recently - my first 'free' month. I was looking forward to it as i love the background and lore.
My experience has been utterly dismaying in too many ways to list, but suffice to say, CoH does everything so well i believe I'm ruined for other MMOs. I wasn't considering stopping or even reducing my CoH time, 5 yrs on i still love it, but seeing what a disaster WAR is in conparison to what i want from an MMO, i fear i'll not find anything as good.
CoH is just fantastic, isn't it?
