ok...so i guess Ima go with ice/thorn. earth IS awesome, but not what i was looking for this round.
So onto the next question...do I really need permadom as ice control? -
Better chance of getting a response if you post something roughly what you want and let the mid gurus tweak that. The Mid's gurus generally arent willing to do all the legwork, but will give plenty of feedback to those who who make an effort.
Here's a couple of things to look into though
-combat jumping:the -immob can save your life..and easy LoTg 7.5 holder
-leadership:lovely for kins since they are so reliant on acc for buffs..2 easy 7.5 LotG holders
-find somewhere for at least 1 -KB IO..my own kin has a total -12 lol -
Ive been wanting a dom for ages now but Ive always had other projects ahead in the line-up but now Im finally fred up enough to get into this AT.
Ive taken both primaries to 50 on a troller, and I think Ive got a basic grasp of playstyle differences versus being on a Dom.
Im just looking for insight on how these 2 sets work with /thorn.
I liked these 2 sets particularly b/c I know they favor melee-oriented builds due to their heavy-hitting pbaoe toggles.
Ice is mostly for amusement via ice slicked mobs tripping onto thorntrops and the fact i love ice control like the Irish love ale.
Fire is b/c my experience as a fire troller was fire/kin and by the time Id rolled this toon he was my 5th kin...so I kinda flaked out on him before I put much work into the set.
Anywho! Any advice/tips/words of warning are welcome. -
Yes this(and other +end) proc do actually give the endurance to your enemy in powers like transference or transfusion. saw this at work on my elec/kin corr. besides, imo ToE proc only worth slotting in dark armor heal.
-
Since money doesnt seem to be an issue I didnt hold much of anything back. I rearranged a lot of your powers to be more TF-friendly too. The slotting was kinda scary to be honest to I did a lot of tweaking there. I left 1 last slot where can put a ragnorok proc in empty clips or bullet rain for the knockdown.
While I normally dont condone rads skipping choking cloud I assume you planned on being a ranged supporter so I kept it out of the build.
I dropped stealth but picked up hasten/ss and put the stealth IO in ss to be equal to pve invis. This build is also perma-am and perma-hasten and a lot easier on your endurance.

i have a couple of dp/traps builds saved and i cant pick which one i like more..
one softcaps me to s/l/e/n/range
the other only softcaps s/l but i have permahasten(w/o purple sets) -
while i am somewhat fond of the set(i have one shelved in 30s myself), sonic is not too popular for several reasons
-high end costs
-terrible for min/maxing and sets bonuses
-its resistance...and game mechanics are in favor of defense
-its signature power, liquefy, has an ungodly long recharge and low duration
ill/sonic is a fun combo for teams, but the 2 sets just dont have synergy for soloing imo beyond sonic siphon to add to your ST attack chain.
i also agree with fire mastery and spiritual alpha. -
well of course...nothing can make /cold be bad! not even grav control! lol
i kid..i swear on my hamster's grave -
AA is an amazingly powerful mitigation tool...if you're in melee. if you play mostly from range you will get better use from shiver.
AA is nice b/c despite the end cost b/c its autohit. the slow, afraid, and confuse make for TONS of mitigation and AA alone can almost floor the rech of most things. -
so ive been over this topic a couple times and i think i finally have something that i can live with. soloing with my ice/ff troller has always been love/hate..losing survivability for dmg and vic versa..but now with inherent fitness its feasible. this toon is my badgewhore and i just would rather not have to rely on others to get my new badges as ive had to since the beginning
i barely manage to softcap my s/l defense at 45% even and loaded the build with procs and +dmg bonuses. im kinda at a loss for the alpha atm but i guess that will weigh in once i get a feel for the build and get some input

i like ranged defense on blasters(be they blaster or blapper) b/c of the fact ranged defense doubles as mez protection since the vast majority of mez powers are range
-
imo if you are already softcapped for range id stay there. the f/c defense would be nifty but having the range also doubles as mez protection since the overwhelming majority of mez powers are ranged. also, ice/ice benefits more from ranged combat since ice manip isnt exactly that good..other than ice patch...to help keep things at range lol
-
me personally...i say spiritual on both. you have some very nice defense numbers on the FA/IM but your recharge is downright depressing for FA. but i guess a lot of the need for rech was just for sake of healing flames. whatever the case, if you think your survivability fine go for dmg. as for he stoner well...firstly id say rerun his build for i19, then see what kinda stuff you can come up with. but more rech is just always better especially when you run granite.
-
you may not be a pro at mids but if you could just throw something together thats something like what you want to play we can help you more. its hard to point you in the right direction when we have no idea of where you want to be.
i can say this though, elec/TA will have plenty of soft control to go around, and your electric control will be able to light oil slick with ease. the thing is that they favor different styles. electric's conductive aura needs melee but since TA offers virtually no way of supporting you it plays much better at range.
but beyond this i cant offer much b/c i dont know what YOU want from this toon. soloing is possible, but will be slow. a team-oriented build would yield much better results imo.
so yeah..throw together something that caters to your playstyle and personal perks(even if you just set it up for basic SOs or IOs) and we can give you some pointers -
i had a 50 emp/psy some years back...sadly he got deleted when my bro went ona rampage. but i never really felt underpowered. psionic tornado is just amazing in my books. psy dmg DoT aoe with knockup. i actually skipped the snipe tho, im not too fond of snipes in general and psy tends to have awesome range overall anyways. if was felt slow to you i never noticed it myself b/c i was too busy healing/buffing and attaching when i had a couple seconds to spare.
-
another thing to look into, id recommend getting combat jumping much sooner. having 4 lvl kins myself i learned very quickly getting immobilized can be fatal and annoying. also happend that CJ is one truly amazing power for simple IOs set pieces. its just kind of dipping your toe into IOs, but id would looking into getting the Karma:Knockback protection IO from the defense sets. Knockback is another killer than can easily(and rather cheaply) be avoided using IOs and as a kin you dont wanna be sitting on your butt when you need to heal yourslf
-
im gonna agree with bass that some power should be chosen sooner. since you dont seem to mind flashing some bling i didnt hold back on sets either lol
i ran something thru mids..got that s/l def softcap, cost you a chunk of def to f/c/e/n but i also more than doubled your recharge..something you were severely lacking. I know you are fine w/o it now, but with more rech your overall dps goes up since soul drain is up more. Hasten, DP, nor soul drain are perma, but its good enough to do the job. Also i juggled some stuff around and worked fire blast/fireball in there for flavor
personally im not a huge proc fan but i did keep 2 in shadow punch, and i put the KD proc in fireball for a giggles

-
yes KM has 3 stunning attacks, also i think KM/dark would be more effective anyways. KM's -dmg ability would complement a resistance armor nicely, especially since your heal is so taxing on your blue bar
-
Soloing on a scrapper should be super easy almost no matter what sets you choose. some will bloom earlier but they all will very viable by the time you hit SOs and by then it should be cakewalk.
imo if you want a sturdy soloing scrap i will put dark melee as my top primary and here's why
1)solid ST attack chain
2)neg energy so its uncommonly resisted, that goes from low lvls to the endgame
3)the -tohit helps reduce incoming damage
4)a heal that doubles as a solid attack
secondaries that go(particularly) well here are WP, invuln, sr, and elec.
elec and sr both have autos to boost your rech so more soul drain!
these sets would be good on just IOs, and great on a moderately priced build.
roderick was right aoe helps..and least with minions, so i give my nod to elec as top armor
dark/elec is also quite effective late-game with these kindsa synergies..
-2 heals via siphon life and energize
-dark will handle ST dmg for bosses n such and while has lightning field to wittle down minions
-power sink means you could slot dark consumption as an aoe attack. soul drain+DC=wicked
-elec armor gives you plenty of nrg resistance..pick up tough and you can probably take most anything the game can throw your way
-both builds benefit from high global recharge -
Building for def vs res is really up to you. Some people prefer never getting hit to begin with while other would rather take a few extra hit but be hit for less dmg.
Both have their advantages but I tend to lean towards defense on my own kins. In my mind getting hit less often means using transfusion less, ergo more time using other buffs or attacks.
Just knowing how defense rolls work in this helped me decide. Basically this is how it works..
Lets so you softcap your s/l defense..so 45%..that means ANY attack that uses smashing or lethal only has a 5% chance to hit. That covers roughly 85-90% of everything in the game.
As a controller you can probably expect(at best) 75% resistance vs smashing and lethal. So every attack that comes at you that uses S or L that part of the attack will do less damage BUT any other part will still hit for full damage. Say something like fireball comes hurling at you. Its smashing component will do very little but its main damage, the fire, will still hurt. -
if you really want to see AA shine you should invest in the confuse proc. my ice/bubbler uses the end/confuse IO and the procs from coercive, malaise, and cacophony. helps me put out more dmg and keeps my end from draining too badly
-
yeah that one is strictly team support. soloing was just painfully slow..but i looked into modifying my old soloing build just to see if it was possible to improve my chances now with inherent fitness. wish i had the slot to spare for air superiority, ended up getting hover just for an extra lotg 7.5
this is hardly perfect but im working on a budget and almost no sleep

while im too tired to run a full build here's my take on things. you are correct that arch/ta is fun. TA is pure, unadulterated debuffing and its flashy to boot. this is just my opinion of certain powers and then pools you can go with
from your primary..
needed powers
-aimed
-fistful
-blazing
those 3 plus your secondary should keep your attack chain pretty seamless
-rain
nifty powers
-aim:beef up rain before firing off
-exploding:its an extra aoe BUT it knocks them back, possibly out of glue/oil slick
-ranged shot-sniper..."meh" at best
and the secondary..
the must-haves
-entangling:yes its picked by default but do not underestimated its utility
-glue:helps things mobs nice n clustered for fistful and your debuffs
-acid
-disruption
-oil slick
the personal prefernce ones
-flash:the -tohit is nice for stealthing and can help with team survival after a couple applications
-ice arrow:its a decent hold, get if it you like
-poison gas:some people skip but i like the -dmg aspect
-EMP:nother one i like but can also live without. very powerful "oh ****" button
power pools
-leadership is your friend:just get them all..lol
-leaping is my preferred travel b/c of combat jumping, but you could also swing fly and stay beyond arms reach at all times(execpt for caves....those evil evil caves)
-i like hasten so i can spam all my debuffs as much as possible
epic pools/masteries
-if you want defense, go scorpion. assuming you got leadership you can skip focused acc in favor of tactics. another good one is soul. soul drain aint bad(even tho you will need to dip into melee) and you get an extra hold. also power boost helps about half your TA powers.
if you go rogue/hero dark mastery has a better soul drain and a self rez. primal has power build up
rule of thumb on the forums...if you actually post a sample build of something you are at least thinking about, you will get more feedback versus asking us to do all the legwork and you hating half of it b/c its not your playstyle..lol
