DP/Traps: hit a roadblock.

I'm currently leveling a DP/Traps Corruptor, and he's rapidly becoming one of my favorites. Even with FFG and Scorpion Shield, though, I'm anticipating problems down the road in terms of softcapped defense. In addition, this build lacks all the single-target and AoE potential that I know DP is capable of. The problem is that I can't take adequate powers (like Pistols, Empty Clips, Trip Mine, etc.) because I can't pull slots away from essential powers to make them worthwhile. Thus, I ended up with lots of "placeholder" powers that can function on their inherent slot.

I'd love any advice on how to improve this build--S/L/E defense and +Recharge are paramount here, though +Acc and +Recovery are always nice.

Here ya go. I did not make this build. Frankly I have no idea where it came from, but it rocks.

Only problem is you can't change any thing on it. Its also going to be rather expensive.

First of all, I love what you've done with this build. Excellent defenses, and better recharge bonuses than I was able to come up with.

Three questions, though: first of all, your slotting of Stamina isn't exactly standard. Do you find yourself running out of endurance with just two slots? I know this isn't a particularly toggle-heavy build (and you've got end reductions in lots of attacks) but my pre-I19 self is crying foul.

Second, how's your attack chain? AoE damage between Empty Clips, Bullet Rain, and Hail of Bullets is solid, but I worry about single targets. Is the recharge high enough that you can just cycle Dual Wield/Executioner's Shot? I had Piercing Rounds in the original build to shore up that weakness, but, like all attacks, it hogged a lot of slots better used elsewhere.

Third, how useful is Swap Ammo in the later game? Its effects seemed lackluster--at best--in the early game, and without usable enhancements, I can only imagine it getting worse. Is it used purely for the DPS boost of Incendiary Rounds, or do the Cryo and Bio rounds have some use?

end is fine, i rarely have a problem with it.
Well when it comes to attack chains i have AR, so i stealth in plant acid mortar, web envelope, ignite, then flame thrower and they all tend to die. Sometimes i dont have to use flame thrower.
I dont really know about DP i got to 20 with a dp/dark mis corr and i was banging my head on the keyboard it was so shite. Sorry.

This is the build I plan on using on the dp/traps defender I am currently levelling. It will obviously need modifications for a corruptor but gives you another way of looking at things. My plan is to go accuracy/defense for my incarnate to finish off my soft capped defenses. Perma hasten with purples but could be made cheaper and not much less effective by swapping them out.

As recommended by everyone who has rune the numbers, mine uses fire ammo non-stop. It does make a VERY noticeable difference. None of the other ammos are worth it.

As far as single-target, I do dual shot-executioner's shot-dual-shot-bullet rain-repeat. I'll splash in some caltrops as needed. If haste is down I have to make do with a few fillers now and again. But it works fine. Vs bosses, I typically have to spam traps just to keep them from running away.

I STRONGLY recommend you put the Lockdown +2 mag hold into poison gas trap. It's spectacular.

Also, the Absolute Amazement proc is bugged and is not firing, so it is a wasted slot just now.
I'd swap boxing and maneuvers. If it is just a pre-req and not going to be used, put boxing off and give yourself a few more levels of maneuvers when you exemp down. Expecially now with so many other people taking leadership toggles due to i19 you are very likely to have a chance to stack with someone.

I'd like to point out one exception to the general uselessness of any ammo but fire:

If you are playing in your role as a buffer/support character, the res and def debuffs from some attacks may be worth more than the bonus damage. If I can give several targets a 10% defense debuff, that may translate into quite a bit more damage than I would otherwise be doing even if incendiary rounds doubled my damage output.

So on my dp/dev blaster, I mostly use incendiary rounds and Just Kill. On my traps/dp defender, though, I am likely to mostly use standard rounds on a team, because the mix of effects is much more beneficial to my teammates, and they do a LOT more damage than I do.

I have a Sonic Trap Corruptor i19 build I have been tweaking.. It is completely Positional Defense Capped. My only issue is Assault or Time Bomb. I'm in the middle of a thread on the Defender forums with Time Bomb question and waiting on a reply related to the difference. Basically I was believing that Time Bomb was better but someone mentioned that Assault was better overall. Swapping out the powers MIDS was showing me with a damage increase with Assault running. I think I fell for the big explosions means its better scam.

Once I get home I will post up the build. I think once you get it all set up I think yours will be much more fun because you have the AOE knock down that Sonic does not.

I'm still torn, regardless you can swap out time bomb for assault. I'm getting an additional 4 or 6 DPS increase on attacks. So I'm going from 54 to 58 DPS per Shockwave attack. It would cost 78 endurance and 9.75 for a total of 32 seconds to cast shockwave to equal one Time Bomb. Granted there is a 7 second difference in cast time and a bunch of other difference.

I'm thinking you can cast shockwave at a loss of 4 dps while time bomb is recharging and be in the same boat. 78 endurance compared to 13 endurance is big deal as well. Further as was confirmed to me on the defenders forum, Assault does not work well with Pseudo pets, which traps has many. So the only powers benefiting from assault are your other attacks. Further I think the T9 DP attack is also considered a Pseudo pet. Again not sure, just thinking I read that somewhere when DP was first introduced.. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Sorry about that.

Nonetheless here is the build. I have Power Sink on my AR Traps Defender and its really great to get that endurance back. Add in Conserve Power and your pretty much just using these back and forth for a great save on endurance.

Hey you're build was so close to soft cap, which made me curious what it would take to Positionally softcap it without having to use the ACC/DEF Incarnate.

Here's your build with the same power but slightly different slotting.

Giving you Positional Soft Cap
18% more s/l Res
More End Recovery
.01 Less End use
More HP

All at the cost of going from 8 KB prot, down to 4 KB.
Losing some Global Acc
And 11.2% Global Rech

This build would use the Radial Spiritual Incarnate which would more than make up for the lost Rech...

I'm sure this can be improved but it gives an idea of another way to go incarnate wise...

the other only softcaps s/l but i have permahasten(w/o purple sets)

Also, any one see a way to put two more slots into hasten with out losing my soft cap in the build below? The only way I see is to take slots out of health and stamina. However if I do that to have hasten up more often I'll be useing more end...

I'd like to second that request to see these builds. The description of the latter intrigues me since 99% of the time when I team it would be far more valuable to be stacking the traps and there is almost always a team member with a buff that will get that last bit of defense needed.
