  1. Because of DR, there won't be that significant of a difference for the Alpha slot. Where you would see the biggest improvement would be in areas that aren't already max slotted, such as endurance or recharge. I have seen quite a few people who think that the alpha slot allows them to bypass a portion of DR because of the poor wording in the discriptions. The alpha slot only ignores a portion of the DR that is applied to the enhancements themselves, not to the PvP DR that is applied to the total power. Using the damage or accuracy alpha for instance will most likely only net you a couple of percentage points improvement after PvP DR is applied. Not really noticable in most cases.

  3. Yes. Yes it is.

It makes complete sense from a marketing and development standpoint to add an element that slows down the progression. They spend alot of time and resources to develop new aspects of the game that are being marketed as a major selling point. Regardless of how the veteran "want it now" players may think of it, it looks bad when that new content gets blown out in a matter of hours. Besides, what's the rush? Are you going somewhere? Does your subscription run out at midnight and you want to get this one last thing done?
  4. Just recently bought GR and started having these issues. All my characters seem fine except the one new character I started in Preatoria. That character is now almost unplayable as I can't interact with any contacts or adjust difficulty without a crash. I started another character at the same time but in AP, and that character has no problems.

Strangley, and it may or not be related, the problems started when I began doing tip missions on the Praetorian. Crashes were few at first, but it seemed the more tips I did, the more frequent the crashes came. The last time I was able to play him was on his 10th tip mission. Since finishing that mission I haven't been able to interact at all with his contacts.
  5. When I moved from Virtue to Freedom I didn't feel like ponying up $10 each for my characters to tranfer. I had some friends that wanted the names so I deleted a few 50s there. Have deleted a couple since then because I knew I was never going to play them again after the horrible PvP changes made them useless. It's not really that big a deal to delete them when my whole server list is full of 50s.
  6. For me, Wizard was like the old dog that I loved, but had lived way past it's time and needed to be put down. I enjoyed it in it's early years and it was fun to read at times, if not entirely timely or relevant. The later years were just kind of sad though.
  7. Why would a bloodthirsty, tongue wagging blob of ultra strong alien goo need a pistol?

Why is Marvel so intent on destroying everything in Spiderman lore? I'm a DC man myself, but it's painful to watch Marvel do this to it's flagship characters universe. I feel bad for all the people that (still) read Spiderman.

You'd have to start from the bottom up and redesign a whole MMO with the possibility of PvP in place.
This is the fallacy of CoX PvP. The PvE game was always designed and balanced for team play, and PvP was no different at first. The devs even said as much. PvP dedicated teams worked very well and were very well balanced when they played against each other. The system worked when it was used correctly.

The problems occured when people who normally were used to rolling an entire mission solo on their leet AT of choice went into zones with that same solo attitude and got rolled instead. Usually by a team. Suddenly there were cries of imbalance. People felt that because they can do the PvE content without help, they should be able to do the same in PvP. They honestly couldn't understand why their amazing AT of choice was dying so fast to a team. So instead of taking the time to invest in team skills, they chose to cry about how unbalanced it was. Unfortunately, the devs listened. The PvP mess we have now is the result of that selfish solo first attitude.

As Burning Chick mentioned, Castle didn't get all the changes he wanted. PvPers thank God he didn't because then we would have the infamous Anti-gank code he was working on. The ultimate reward for soloists, and the ultimate punishment for those foolish enough to team in PvP.

The devs pretty much killed any hope of PvP growth when they made the decision to make PvP different from PvE. Why would anybody who has never PvPd before want to try when everything they know about the game is different the second they enter the zone? Suddenly, powers that worked one way in PvE, now do something completelt different. Attack powers do completely different damage. Holds work for a fraction of their duration. Powers that are supposed to protect you from holds don't work at all. Buffs? Debuffs? Forget about those, they are amost worthless now, and will probably get you killed if you use them thanks to a Draconian movement supression.
  9. It would be nice to see some new travel options, even if they are just reskins of the existing powers, in a similair fashion to that other super hero game.

Seriously old. I'm actually really surprised they would pull this out. It's been, what, two weeks since the last major character died? Marvel is really out of touch with their readership if they think this will get anything but eye rolls out of them.
  14. Just saw it. There were major pacing problems. I was utterly bored for the majority of the movie. The plot was weak and predictable. It was pretty obvious the are at least attempting to set it for a franchise, but I won't need to see any others that might come out.

My problem as I stated isn't whether this is some sort of authored response to the Silver Age, it's the consistency of the writing and the use of 'shock tactic' incidents in place of actual drama. Since when did an author feel unable to write a response without drastically changing the character and make them their mouthpiece for an argument that honestly has no place in the setting of the stories? That's like asking Micheal Moorcock to write an academic piece on his own writing. You'd never get anything but a metatextual response.

This is exactly the problem I have with modern writers and the editors that enable those writers. There is little to no respect for continuity. The writers are allowed to change or in some cases just kill off characters for the sake of writing their story. They shoe horn the character into the story rather than finding the story that fits the character. In my experience, that has always been the hallmark of lazy writing. Spiderman in the last few years is the perfect example of that kind of lazy writing.

None of this is to say that characters should never change. A natural organic evolution should take place, and even sudden shock events can add dimension to a character. But bending a character around 180 degree in a direction that makes no sense and is not true to the character is direspectfull to the readers and every other writer that came before them.

  17. This show is doomed to failure. Just based on the initial costs and the weekly operating expenses, even if it is successfull it would have to sell out every performance for years just to recoup the investment. Add to that the toll it seems to be taking on both actors and equipment, I just don't see that happening. All those actors have to be insured and if they keep having accidents, no insurance company will touch it, which in turn means AE won't touch it, which means the lights go down.

On the upside, it means there might be some pretty sweet Spidey costumes and props availabe on e-bay for a steal.
  18. Don't get too discouraged. Yes, you will die. Alot. Especially when you are at the bottom end of the level range of the zone you are in. Remeber, many of the people you are fighting are fully IOd and sporting all the important Accolades, so they have the advantage before the fight even starts. The good news is that it will get better as you learn how PvP works and you level up your characters.

Don't worry too much about getting your characters to 50 right now. Level them up as you normally would and if you enjoy the PvE aspect of the game, then just worry about that. Keep working the zones as you go, and just try to soak up as much information as you can. You will learn more by losing then you ever can by winning. Use your second build for PvP, because they will almost always be different.

Personally, I think it's good to go in at lower levels and learn what you need to do to evade and survive before you get all the powers and IOs. If you can learn what you need before you get all your powers and IOs, it makes it that much easier after you get them.
  19. Update to this.

When I logged off yesterday my same Stalker had the Spiritual enhancement slotted in alpha. When I logged him in today, the first thing I did was check his powers. The Spiritual enhancement was again presenting no bonuses. I removed the enhancement from the slot and put it back in and bonuses started showing again.

It seems to be an issue with the game recognizing the Spiritual enhancement unless certain things are present or are done.

How well are your powers slotted for recharge? If they're close to the ED cap already, Spiritual is only going to boost them so much beyond ED levels. I wonder if there's some goofup with the 5 minute cooldown between changing Alpha Slot enhancements?

Had powers slotted the full range from none to 95+, all with non set IOs. Not a single power presented any additional recharge when the Spiritual enhancement was replacing the Cardiac. It only presented +rech when the Cardiac was first manually removed before placing the Spiritual. As I said, not game breaking since it does have a work around, but can be confusing for some people.

This doesn't seem to be a problem for everybody. It may be AT or power set specific, or some other factor. I have talked with two other people in game that had a similair issue with Spiritual, and looking through the forums showed others that had experienced this.
  21. There actually appears to be a bug with the Spiritual enhancement in the Alpha slot.

I encountered it just today on my villain Stalker, and recalled hearing others mentioning that they didn't see improvement in recharge. I had the Cardiac enhancement slotted when I got the shards I needed for Sprirtual. I crafted the Spiritual and replaced the Cardiac in the Alpha slot. After a couple of missions I noticed no perceivable effect on any of my powers. This build had only basic IOs, and no set bonuses so it was pretty apparent. I confirmed this by switching back and forth between Incarnates slots and timing the powers with a stop watch. Hovering over the powers showed no improvement in recharge time either.

After doing this for a while I did one last attempt at switching, but this time I did it differently. This time I first REMOVED the Cardiac enhancement, then slotted the Spiritual as opposed to just replacing the Cardiac. This time when I hovered over the powers, they showed a recharge bonus and there was a noticable improvement.

It's not game breaking by any means and only seems to effect some players. I bugged this and PMed this information to Castle, so hopefully it is something they can resolve quickly.
  22. My daughter is very much like that little girl. She adores anything Star Wars related. When she first started school, she got a lot of blank looks and a few smirks when she suggested the kids play Star Wars at recess. She got just one girl (who became her best friend) to play with her. After a week she had them all playing her game on the playground every day.
  23. Stalkers are a terrible starter AT. It will not teach a new play skills that can transfer to any other AT, and what it does teach amounts to bad habits that would get them killed on any other AT. There are easily more bad PvPers playing Stalkers right now than any other AT and it is exactly for the reasons you guys want them to do it.

Probably the most important general skill you can have in PvP is evasion. Playing a Stalker will not teach that skill since evasion on a Stalker requires phase or a tier 9 power and waiting 8 seconds. Hell you don't even have to move more than 10 feet. Try that on any other AT and see how well it works. I don't give a crap about a new players feelings about getting killed. Getting killed is just another aspect of the game and happens to even the best players. They need to get killed since they will never learn how NOT to get killed otherwise. Blasters, Corruptors and even Defenders are all great ATs for that purpose and are all capable of racking up kills while teaching a new player essential survival skills they will never get on a Stalker. Skills that will carry over to other ATs.

Stalkers are FINE learning toons for newer players to learn with, regardless of their experience, IF they "want" to learn. There's no other AT that allows you to sit in as much comfort and "learn" by watching others without much risk of dieing/being farmed. If a new player chooses not to watch and learn, no amount of time/experience will fix that, most cases.
Lemme guess...you think they should roll a scrapper? Like we don't already have enough true-warriors running around now. Or how about a squishy instead.....so they can be farmed mercilessly and no longer want to pvp because of it? Good advice.
You're dumb again. Sharks are nothing to laugh at.....who doesn't want an 80 foot Assassin Strike to learn with? And if using an 80 foot AS gets me laughed at, so be it. I will impale and shark your *** to death and laugh all the way to the market....like I always do on my blasting stalker. You don't NEED to use AS. Wtf do you think blasters do? They blast from range, genius. Stalkers can too if built right. What are some of your toons, I'll log in and show you? Of course I'm sure you'll bring your regen if you do, or some giant bag of HP's, lol.
Your still dumb. I like bad stalkers. They make drops easier to get. 99% of people who say stuff like you did......are dumb, so I've heard.
According to pretty much anyone you ask nowadays, 99% of the pvp player base is bad, dumb, newb, sucks, loser, blah blah blah. Shaddap!
Stop telling people when to play an AT......and being dumb.
God these type of posts are getting old.

    To the original poster:
Spines/ or Elec/ are both fine choices. If money is no object for you, /Nin can be very, very good to you. If you are on more of a budget, /WP is a better option, but a very good option regardless of budget....but you will still need "some" sort of a budget. Proc'd attacks are your friend. GL with your new stalker and learning the art of the AS.

You're an idiot if you think Sharks is a ranged AS. My Stalker can do 800+ damage with AS, which I'm good enough to do pretty much at will. Follow that up with placate+Shark and squishies die. Good luck doing that with just Sharks baddo. I imagine you would be one of those bottom feeder PvPers that only goes after players that are almost dead anyway so Sharks is perfect for your needs since you don't have to worry about follow up attacks.

But I do like playing against Stalkers that just throw fish because it means I don't have to worry about them and can concentrate on the real threats. Any real PvPer here though will tell you that AS is the cornerstone of any good Stalker build. Why would you not use your highest damage attack? Is it too hard for you?

What are the top 5 best stalker builds?
If you are relatively new to the game and PvP, please do not make a Stalker until you fully understand PvP. I don't say this to be insulting or critical, but there are just sooooooooo many bad Stalkers in the game that it makes me cringe every time I see somebody with a new forum registration date asking about Stalker builds.

99% of Stalkers in the game right now are just frustrated Blasters. If you are going to make a Stalker, please please please understand your role and your powers and don't just spam ranged attacks from hide because that will only get you laughed at.
