And the answer is: "6000 calories a day"

*beep*

What is the number of calories Hugh Jackman is consuming to bulk up for the next Wolverine film?

From the article:

Quote:
"The Wolverine," ... is not a sequel but a stand-alone film. In it, the razor-clawed Marvel hero will go into battle to win the heart of a Japanese woman whose hand in marriage was already promised to another man.

Man, I'm glad I've never been much of a Wolverine fan, or this plot synopsis might make me chew off my own arms out of nerd rage. It sounds like a Merchant Ivory period film...with claws! *snikt* bub *snikt* bub

This sounds a lot like that season from the 90s Fox X-Men cartoon where Wolverine lived in Japan for some time, and with the part of his backstory where he spends many years in Feudal Japan.

Sounds like the plot to the new Wolverine anime currently airing in Japan.

Man, and I thought I had it rough on calorie-counting to get in shape.

With regards to the movie itself, I'm actually intrigued about the plot. Wolverine's had a long history with Japan, and this is something that (as far as I'm aware) hasn't been touched on in the movies. I'm curious who the love interest is going to be. Could be Mariko. Or Itsu. Or Atsuko.

My guess is Mariko.

Yashida clan drama! Fun!!

Yes, I fully expect to see Silver Samurai and/or Sunfire in this movie. AND THAT SHOULD BE IT FOR MUTANT CAMEOS.

I see no nerd rage here. Wolvie's history with Japan (and its women) is long established. This movie already sounds like a better Wolverine film than the first one.

Since the "X-Men: Origins: Wolverine" DVD special features mention that Silver Samurai would be in this movie, I'm guessing the love interest to be the SS's sister, Mariko.

Anyone nerdraging over the Japan idea really doesn't know Wolvie's backstory too well.

I always thought his history in Japan was the only interesting part of his backstory. If they do it as more of a prequel it might actually make me want to see it.

Well, I did say I'm not a big Wolvie fan, so yes I don't know his backstory all that well. Just going from the synopsis, and my general impression that pretty much all "love interest" stories in superhero films are not that well done (I'm being charitable here), I'm not too excited about a movie where the love interest storyline appears to be the main plot.

I've heard that its based off wolverine's first stand-alone miniseries. That would make some sense... the story's relatively self-contained and doesn't require a lot of Marvel Universe lore to follow (or edit around).

It's the exact plot of the first Wolverine limited series.

I'm not following Marvel comics, but I think that everyone know how strong are Wolvy's links with Japan (if I remember well, there's a whole serie about the period he lived in that country - and don't forget that his son Daken is half Japanese).

Each arc can be played separately

I know his backstory, but to be quite honest, after Origins I'm fully expecting this to be a solid mashup of that movie and Crouching Tiger.

As far as Wolverine is concerned, I have no faith in how Hollywood is handling him, especially after how they tried to incorporated Deadpool.

The plot is straight out of the comics, yes, and Jackman has said the first one sucked. So there's hope.

The good news about Wolverine is that stories can be told in any era over the past couple hundred years, since he doesn't age. Whether people will accept him without the claws in a film that takes place before the 1970s is another story. (Provided they stay true to the character. Does anyone recall seeing any claws in the flashbacks in Origins? I don't, but seriously blanked out a lot of that flick.)

There were bone claws in the movie. They even had Sabertooth stomp on them and break half of them off, in a comic shoutout. Too bad the movie really, really sucked.

I LOL'D

I also would kill to be as ripped as Jackman's made himself for this role.. He's really taking the superhero physique thing to heart... UNLIKE OTHERS THAT USE RUBBER COSTUMES!
