    Faultline

    [ QUOTE ]
Hadn't thought of Pocket D, but seeing as I have the TP from the GvE edition that could work very well

I'm still getting used to finding my way around blue side. After so much time in the Isles I sometimes find Paragon quite complex to navigate.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry if you already know this - but there's a door into Pocket D in Faultline so you only need the GvE 'porter if you are in the far end of Faultline and want it as a shortcut.

About half the time, I travel into and out of Faultline using Pocket D's foyer.

    Faultline

    [ QUOTE ]

Buuuut... it is a nuisance to get to, with that long long run through Skyway every time I want to visit Wentworths, so a PTA link would be welcome for that if nothing else.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not that I'm disagreeing with the idea of better access to Faultline -

But whay are you taking a long long run thru Skyway to get to WW? The Green Line tram station isn't very far from the tunnel between Skyway & Faultline and the Talos Island WW is very conveniently close to the tram.

Alternatively, use Pocket D's foyer to shortcut between Faultline and either Kings Row or Talos.

Gotta think outside the box. Multiple WWs out there.
  3. My Archery/Ice in only 20, but I'm enjoying the sets quite a lot. My concept doesn't include most of the Ice secondary at this level, but I plan on picking up more now that I'm past Stamina level - the End cost for much of /Ice led to that decision.

At level 22, I have all the Archery attacks available, but only Chilblain & Build Up from the secondary. Ice Patch will be chosen as soon as I can, along with Shiver.

Er, what? The family that geeks out together, stays together.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well i guess that is true but u didnt have to say it like that!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am not certain you understand that we're all geeks here? Is that what you're having a problem with? Child understands how important COH is to dad, and put their adoration in the terms most used. Geeky, adorable.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I guess someone hasn't heard that it's now cool to admit we're geeks and embrace our geekiness.

Very nice, gr33n. You have a great daughter!
  5. Geobaldi -

I like any idea which reduces the "footprint" of those ugly Salvage racks in my bases. They currently take up lots of floor space I wish I could be using for other things.

So long as your Tiered Salvage Storage racks don't correspondingly increase the amount of space they take, then I will gladly /sign the idea.

I don't know if the AE farms are to blame for this, but I have recently started a few alts and while I am doing the tutorial mission, people ask me VERY newbish questions about the game. (like how to use powers, etc.) It's almost like they don't READ the instructions provided! I did answer the questions, but it's still kinda irritating!

Then, just today, while I was in Atlas, I saw a level 1 Blaster taking on a group of level 4 Hellions (probably 4-5 of them!) I found that the 'shrug' emote was the only appropriate way to react! (I REALLY need a 'facepalm' emote!) Seriously, I think it's like "Rise of the Newbs" in CoH! (Which actually isn't a BAD thing with CO coming so soon!)

    [/ QUOTE ]

    (I added some emphasis above).

OK, this sounds very odd to me - that someone finds it weird that people in a TUTORIAL are asking questions about the mechinics of how to play a game. Oh my goodness - people trying to learn in a tutorial, how bizarre!

Some learn by reading a manual or the various instruction links, some learn by trying stuff out, some learn by asking specific questions about stuff they are confused by.

Personally, I prefer it when people ask questions to clarify what they are confused by rather than ASSUME (we all know where that leads) - and in a Tutorial seems the perfect place to do that. But YMMV.

If it truly does irritate you, then don't answer them.

But is Lusca really any tougher, in total, than the other Giant Monsters?

I've been on several Giant Monster runs, including multiple "Sushi Runs", and it seems to me that Lusca, overall, takes about the same total effort as any other Giant Monster.

I've seen Lusca fall to just 20 players. I've been in a group of about the same size that went after Jack and Eochai. Each of them took easily as long as the entire Lusca battle did.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Really?

That doesn't match my experience of Lusca vs the time to fell Jack or Eo at Halloween. Lusca takes longer, although a single tentacle might not take as long. And a couple of other GMs are really quick to take down (I'm looking at you, Kraken!)
  8. Nope - I have a character in Icon right now looking at her new cape with its High Collar and Short Cape - Arctic pattern.

Unless its a bug on the Male Cape? I can't check that, I don't have a Male character on the account that has the Arcane pack.
  9. Only 60ish here, but I also logged in all my husband's characters (just in case he ever decides to give up WoW and come back to the City).

I tend to do either what PuceNonagon does (log in, drop a mission & reset Day Job location) or what M_B does - sometimes that long-forgotten character is more fun than you remembered.

It's not really a chore - it's a chance to revisit old friends.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
...should i just load up on respites and try just luring them out one by one?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's a very good strategy for a beginning blaster - learn how to pull. Pick off minions from the edges - don't start out with Ball Lightning, since it's an AoE and mght bite off more than you can chew.

Also - visit the Blaster forum for more tips on how to play an Elec/Elec blaster.

Finally, don't be afraid to team with people outside your circle of friends. PuGs in the Hollows can be loads of fun or can be train wrecks (and everything in between) but you will learn the game pretty quickly that way.

    Welcome to the City!

P.S. I would consider dropping the mission with the Igneous. Just revisit Julius the Troll and see if he will let you do that (some missions can't be dropped & I can't recall whether that one can or not).

You're level 6. Turn off sprint.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But... But... I like to run fast!

You're level 6 - that ain't happening whether you have Sprint on or not.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
There is a disconnect between people with a PvP mindset and people who do not possess that mindset.

True PvP'ers step into a PvP zone, it goes "WHAM!DEAD" and they go "Hmmmm, why did that happen? Wow, PvP in this game is sure fast and 3D! Perhaps more movement? Perhaps I should send a tell to one of those guys after I zone out. Maybe hit some websites for some guides?"

True PvEr's never set foot in the zone, or they just lie in the hospital and alt/tab out to get a badge.

The borderline/curious/recruitables go, "WTH!??? Screw that, I'm never trying that again." And you have lost a customer. And I beleive this is the majority experience.

To be fair, many of those people would quit PvE just as fast, if the first 3 times they tried to hunt Hellions in Atlas Park they got 2 shotted.

Dying slower is a step in the right direction, IMHO. And all the other changes cascade from there.

The answer to powers working differently is dual builds, but unfortunately that doesn't help the right people. Newbies don't know how to build a PvP build.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think Kitsune has captured the basic issue with some of the PvP discussins that have been going on for years here. And it repeats what I was trying to say upthread, just reworded.

The people who have the PvP mindset & playstyle that have been effective here are those in the first group Kitsune described. They are so inclined to PvP that a quick death (or 2 or 3 or 12) just means that they need to figure out what went wrong and then work to fix it.

For the third group Kitsune described, those same quick deaths probably mean something more like "I suck at this. I don't like to feel like I suck at something. I'm gong back to something I already understand and find fun in the game(PvE - remember that we all PvE first long before anyone can get into any of the PvP play)".

    Mod 8

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
The OPs biggest mistake was thinking he good trust the evil number 8 in the first place.

Eight, eight, the burning hate, a day between Sunday and Monday so dark it will devastate....

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just remember. Figure 8 is double four. Figure 4 is half of eight. If you could skate, you would be great if you could skate a figure 8. It's a circle that turns 'round upon itself.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have that DVD! It's great for singalongs.....

Of course, Three is a Magic Number
  14. I have multiple faves as well:

Fire/Ice - for the reasons Ipso already stated

Sonic/Energy - debuffing with your blasts is nice, early Build Up

Fire/Energy - Damage, damage, damage; again an early Build Up

Energy/Electric/Electric (my first 50) - combination of KB & Sapping, especially good with another Electric in the team.
  15. This may be sacrilege for the Blaster forum - but I think you are in the wrong AT, especially with Going Rogue coming soon.

I think what you are looking for is a Fire Blast/Dark Miasma Corruptor. A lot of the Dark Miasma powerset sounds more like your Emotion Controller (Fear).

You can have him undercover in the Rogue Isles until you get a chance to cross over when that expansion comes out.

    issue 15 powers

    [ QUOTE ]
some lvl 50 /regen players i know cannot even solo an EB
its that, they use the clickes very often since they cant take a lot of damage, and your resistance and defence relies on set io bonuses and pool powers, which isnt easy

so how can a /regen even solo an av if it cannot solo an eb
the other secondaries are a lot more efficient at it

    [/ QUOTE ]

It still bemuses me that there are players out there who somehow feel that having to click on powers in a scrapper's secondary is somehow "weak" or else so time-consuming (those who moan that /regen is so "clicky").

OP, other scrapper secondaries who seem to be more "efficient " are still using their secondaries, albeit as toggles or as auto-powers. Activation methods being different doesn't mean "inefficient".

Also, as others have noted, your position is based on "some players" which tends to a conclusion that the perceived difference is PEBKAC.

    /em soapbox

People who moan 'n' groan that /Regen is too "clicky" - sheesh, folks, havent you ever played any other AT where *all* the secondary is "clicky"? Is a /Fire Blaster too "clicky" because you have to click to activate Ring of Fire, Fire Sword, Greater Fire Sword Circle and the rest of the powers?

    end em/soapbox.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I think it's more fun to make a new alt and decide "this time I'll do the Hollows-Faultline-Striga-Croatoa version". Or another that does only normal arcs, avoiding the hazard zones, etc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yep. Or my latest new alt - only doing non-farm MA stories. She's currently in the low teens and still in AP for the foreseeable future, although I will be coming out to do costume slot and cape/aura missions.
  18. [ QUOTE ]

And I've seen players hand out fantastic rewards at the Arena.
    Purple recipes.
    50 million in inf.
    Etc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you have to bribe someone with rewards of that magnitude just to get them into the activity - then you still haven't solved the problem that some do not find the activity enjoyable in itself.

Although to you it seems self-evident that a small exposure to PvP would be all that is needed to demonstrate to everyone else what enjoyment can be gained there - there will still be a significant number (note, I don't say majority or even sizable minority) who would only try the activity enough times to get the extremely good rewards and then quit. In the short run, you have their numbers to boost the activity, but then lose them later.

Caveat: I don't enjoy head-to-head competition in any game - never liked it even as a child. I think that there may be some number of players in this game who are like me and will never choose to engage in head-to-head competition without a bribe so large as to trivialize any other rewards given in any other part of the game. The question to me might be whether City has attracted such a large proportion of those as to make the goal of attracting them to PvP worth the effort.

    Arcanaville said this upthread:

    [ QUOTE ]
In PvE, individual critters don't change much, but there's an awful lot of metagaming in the PvE side of the house. Some people like just casually logging in, fighting a couple of Skulls and then logging out. Others aren't crazy about the individual fights, but like reading the story: the foes are the background to the missions. Others see the combat as a hurdle to overcome while developing their characters. Some just play dress-up and the combat is really a form of theater for their characters. Some badge hunt, some collect influence, some treat missions as social events - the metagaming aspects of the PvE game are such that they don't require each individual fight with each individual critter to bear the full weight of keeping the player's attention.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not saying the issue is a "zero sum" game. To me, the fact that there is still enough of a PvP community out there to spawn a discussion this long indicates that making PvP fun for some players is a worthy goal. This calm rational discussion is just the kind of thing that will help make that happen.

EDIT: Arcana was obviously typing out the same thought about huge rewards at the same time I was - and saying it better. So "ditto" her post.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Thank you. All these fictional scenarios are just stupid.

Every platform has a way of adding a password to safeguard your PC when you leave it. They're just making up lame excuses because change is so scary.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So glad you live in such a perfect world - perhaps you could invite the rest of us to visit you there?

Regarding your idea of setting a password to protect your computer when you step away - so you agree then that there is a need to protect data? Your "solution" only puts the protection at a different place - it does not remove the concept of password protected data from the use of a computer that might be accessed by others (which as some have tried to repeatedly point out to you is pretty much *any* computer).

    New Blood

Anecdotally, there has also seemed to be an uptick of "Hi, I'm new, please help me" posts on these forums as well.

Yeah, since I usually play a good bit of the lowbie game (just now getting multiple alts to the low 30s, only have 1 lvl 50 & 3 in the low 40s) - there does seem to be a lot of new players around.

I have been giving random bits of salvage & recipes out as "welcome wagon" gifts - and then usually giving an impromptu lesson on what to do with it.
  21. Do you have the Cyborg pack?

Cyborg 1 under Face Details 1 is a really cool-looking sort of robo-animal effect. I'm using it for a robo-catgirl, but with different ears it could be used for "Astro Dog" if he was a bit heavy metal.

    Vintage Cape?

    [ QUOTE ]
    That's correct. Just chest symbols.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Although it has been asked more than a few times to put chest symbols on capes - so perhaps in the future, who knows?

(Well, the Sexy one probably knows, doesn't he? But he's not sharing that with us right now.)
  23. Depends on which base (I have 5 running currently and share one with my sister).

    In most cases:

Salvage Contrary to what some are posting here, we really rarely have more that 3-4 Salvage racks.
1 for legacy storage of Special & Event Salvage (costume & CCs)
1 for dedicated use with Empowerment Stations
1-2 for other salvage that has dropped - rares and stuff that would be useful to the main crafter character (Luck Charms mainly)

Inspirations Usually 4, divided as follows:
    1 - Reds. Yellows
2 - Purples, Oranges, Break Frees
    3 - Greens, Blues, Wakies
    4 - Presents & other special stuff
Inspirations is probably the first to be cut if I need to shuffle around storage.

Vault Right next to the Inventions Table

Enhancements As many as I can after the rest usually 9
    1-3 - Set IOs
1 - SOs to be pulled out and sold if a lowbie needs a quick boost (drop leftover SOs from highbies in there)
    5-7 - Other IOs

I think that added up correctly?
  24. Technically, you have already outlevelled Croatoa - the only way you could do it right now on your mid-40s character is through Ouro. The zone is 25-34.

But Skydance is correct to tell you "no worries".
