Converting Mutants & Masterminds Char to CoH

Ok so my Character in M&M is named Holocuast. He is a Hellfire Controler and Emotion Controler - Fear...

So I have made him in CoH and I am stuck he is a Fire/Fire Blaster that just hit 20 and I have just read both of the fire/fire guides.
I was wondering if you guys had any tips or tactics for working the presence pool for a fire/fire blaster? I have never used fear so I'm not sure if it is viable with the combo.

I thought the aoe fear might be one of the save your [censored] tools after you have a firebreath, fire ball, fire sword circle go bad.

My spec is totaly messed up since I wasnt sure what powers to take so I will need to do the respec mission at 24.

Thanks for your ideas.

I don't really know much about the Presence Pool, but I'm guessing the AoE fear is not going to be as good as I imagine it (that is to say, not a high mag fear).

In terms of the Fire primary, here are the powers you should at the very least pick up:

Fire Blast
Fire Ball
Fire Breath
Aim
Blaze

You SHOULD pick up more of the powers, but those above are ABSOLUTE necessities. Inferno is a really fun power but, unless you have some +recovery buffs going on from teammates, it's actually going to decrease your overall dps. Flares is nice for when you're mezzed, and gives a decent defiance buff. Rain of Fire is nice but only if you have some kind of -speed power (which I don't recommend for a fire/fire).

The snipe is situational and can be useful for putting IO sets in, but I wouldn't regard it as mandatory.

The AoE fear might work while you`re in close, but it likely won`t add too much. The fears in the Presence pool need a lot of slots to be effective, and double stacked can take problem mobs out of the picture for a while.

Downside to fears though is that when a mob takes damage they are allowed to retaliate with a single attack before going back to cowering. That doesn`t make them useless though, as even if you`re running a damage aura, the fear still helps slow the rate of incoming damage, although not as much as someone who isn`t using aoe`s.

I`ve only used Presence on two characters, both tanks. I generally jumped in and used the AoE fear, followed by the ST on an lieutenant. This locks down a good chunk of the mob for a short while, and will cut down the incoming damage.

While I do enjoy the presence pools and the fears that it provides, I don`t really think it`ll be super helpful on a Fire blaster.

Fear and blaster AoEs don't play well together since the mobs get a chance to retaliate after taking damage.

Presence pool doesn't get very long durations and gives you no ability to fear a boss.

All that said, your best bet may have been to go with Fire/Mental. Mental gets the Scare power and other emotional type powers (Drain Psyche, World of Confusion). Scare stacked on top of Intimidate gives you a boss tool.

The short durations means that getting a useful amount of fear is going to be very slot intensive.

It's not without merit as you can fear a boss from range then the rest of the spawn in melee and (fairly) safely use Drain Psyche for maximum effect.

I did try this and it is reasonably effective but the opportunity costs in powers and slots wasn't worth it and I respected into a more damage oriented build and was much happier.

This may be sacrilege for the Blaster forum - but I think you are in the wrong AT, especially with Going Rogue coming soon.

I think what you are looking for is a Fire Blast/Dark Miasma Corruptor. A lot of the Dark Miasma powerset sounds more like your Emotion Controller (Fear).

You can have him undercover in the Rogue Isles until you get a chance to cross over when that expansion comes out.
