Viability of Archery/Ice
Because you can benefit from the combination of Aim and Build Up in two ways (stacking their damage buffs at the same time, or switching between the two from spawn to spawn), it's become a blaster build law to take both. Violate that law only if you're sure you know what you're doing.
Have you thought about /Mental? Psychic Scream serves much of the same purpose as Shiver. That secondary is also more conducive to strict ranged styles.
You get aim and build up for the damage boost as well as the accuracy. Even if you think it's overkill, it's not. For easier mobs, having the luxury of alternating between the two is nice and for harder targets, you want to click both to maximize front loaded damage. This is a less of an issue if you're teamed most of the time and are buffed.
From archery, I like just about everything except fistful of arrow and explosive arrow. I find them superfluous, especially when you get rain of arrows and when you have enough +rech bonuses to have it come up very frequently.
From ice, chillblain, ice sword, build up, ice patch, shiver, freezing touch are nice powers. I'd pass on frozen fists, chilling embrace and frozen aura. You can skip ice sword and perhaps freezing touch if you're mostly ranged.
One nice trick is to slot up chillblain for damage...it does a decent amount, though it is a bit endurance expensive.
Hadn't really thought about mental. Will give it a look. I will certainly look to get both Aim and Build-Up in. I didn't really think of using them one after the other...

Thanks for the input. I will definately look at some of the ice powers that are more melee oriented as a sort of "Oh crap, he got too close" option.

I have an Archery/Ice blaster that I run as a pure shooter. Once you get Ice Patch, it becomes ridiculously easy to lay a patch down, pull a mob onto it, and then lay waste to them with a Rain/Fistful/Explosive combo. The holds and slows available make it a very good soloable set (which I do mostly) Plus its fun, because its just not a combination I've run into too often.

Thanks again for the input. That is kind of what I was looking to do. Only level 6 right now, with the 1st four attacks. Love flaming arrow and fistful. I imagine it is the new defiance (new to me at least, haven't played blasters in ages) but I seem to be able to rip through groups I wouldn't have tried in the past.

There is a good write up on Archery in the guides section. It brings out our Flaming Arrow is almost as good as the other sets snipe attack.
It is pretty strong considering how early it comes.
Yeah, I read Luminara's fantastic guide and that is what made me roll an Archery character. Was just looking for a little more specific insight into the Arch/Ice combo. Thankfully, there were a few people that definately helped with that. Thanks for the heads up.

I have a level 50 arch/ice/muni that I have a good time with.
Archery is pretty simple: three ST attacks that form a good chain, three simple aoes (cone, targeted aoe. targeted nuke), a stun and a snipe. Ice is also pretty simple: shiver and ice patch are good controls, buildup, and an ST hold and sort of an anemic aoe sleep if you want them.
I skipped the stun in the primary, because it's really slow and without something in the secondary to stack it with it's a bit useless. You could also skip the snipe if you wanted. In ice, the ST hold is useful if you can stack it with something from your APP, otherwise it's sort of hard to justify, too. The aoe sleep is useless for anything but soloing and it's only mag 2, but if you find yourself desperately needing it for control you could take it (or, use it as a set mule.) Couple of the APPs have better aoe sleeps, though.

Yeah, i got the stun in my build, it has its uses with its long range, but additionally as a good place for some bonuses, recovery, good max hp, and 6.25% recharge in addition to the use of the power. Being that you don't have to redraw and its range i'd say its more useful than freezing touch if you're not stacking. FT is a bit easier to stack, but of course in this combo, you have to deal with the redraw which is annoying, and it makes you be in melee when you really don't want to with this build.
Additionally, what i HATE is that freezing touch, all versions, which really upsets me on the tank version when its supposed to be an attack and is very detrimental. But it causes -knockdown, making the boss stop flopping on the ice patch while you wait for it to recharge or stack it with something else.

[/ QUOTE ] I couldn't disagree more. OP, this is some of the worst advice you can take for this Archery.
I too have an Archery/Ice in the mid levels and for this toon I tried as hard as possible to get an ungimped, ranged defense capped hover blaster.
End Result: 47.3% Ranged Defense

Mental suits Archery as an offensive secondary where Ice is much better for mitigation. Shiver will keep your foes at range due to its movement slow and when they do get too close you can use freezing touch, chilblain, and ice patch.

My Archery/Ice in only 20, but I'm enjoying the sets quite a lot. My concept doesn't include most of the Ice secondary at this level, but I plan on picking up more now that I'm past Stamina level - the End cost for much of /Ice led to that decision.
At level 22, I have all the Archery attacks available, but only Chilblain & Build Up from the secondary. Ice Patch will be chosen as soon as I can, along with Shiver.

I just made a Archery/Ice blaster and was wondering if anyone has any input on what I can expect. Idea was to make kind of a modern ninja type character that would be strictly ranged. Seems a good combo what with Chilbain and Shiver being ranged to go with all the archery attacks.
Also seems like it has some tools to deal with people that get too close as well (the ice slick power, or whatever it is called).
Any advice on what should/should not be taken would be appreciated.
One question in particular; should I get both Aim from Archery and Build Up from Ice? Seems that with archery's inherent accuracy bonus having both might be overkill and it makes sense to take the one with the larger damage increase.
