giant octopus rewards

just did the giant octopus in IP it was like killing 9 giant monsters for 1 giant monster reward. i will have to say the risk was way larger than the rewards. i would suggest if you want players to play this increase the rewards or remove the beast. i know i will never take it on again and would suggeat to everyone else to not fight it because its not worth it!

It does also give a badge, you know. People were fighting Giant Monsters (or ignoring them) long before they gave Merit rewards, although their xp and influence rewards have been subpar ever since people abused the Winter Lords and caused a global reduction in Giant Monster rewards as a result.

I agree that Lusca is funtionally multiple GMs in one though, and while two Merits per tentacle might be a bit much, I think something like six or seven Merits for defeating the whole shebang wouldn't be out of line.

Even if nothing changes, however, I wouldn't go so far as to suggest that no one ever do it.

Lusca definitely should have more merits - the length of time that a typical group of people (2 - 3 teams or 1-2 if you're really good at it) takes to do this giant monster in, is pretty long. It takes a lot of work, concentration and teamwork.

I think of all the giant monsters we've got, Lusca DESERVES to have more merits.

Yeah. I rather miss seeing multiple teams of heroes gathering to take Lusca down... the rewards, when the GMs got buffed, ended up just not being worth it for the amount of debt she can give.

Wow. Except people have been fighting Giant Monsters long before they gave rewards worth even taking on one.

Wanna know what those rewards were? Badges. Something unique to the collectors.

Wha? Pre exp nerf GMs used to be able to get you several bubbles of exp per. That was the main reason they were hunted. The badges were just a nice bonus. Except of course for the badge hunters in which case they were the very reason to keep existing.

But is Lusca really any tougher, in total, than the other Giant Monsters?

I've been on several Giant Monster runs, including multiple "Sushi Runs", and it seems to me that Lusca, overall, takes about the same total effort as any other Giant Monster.

I've seen Lusca fall to just 20 players. I've been in a group of about the same size that went after Jack and Eochai. Each of them took easily as long as the entire Lusca battle did.

Really?

That doesn't match my experience of Lusca vs the time to fell Jack or Eo at Halloween. Lusca takes longer, although a single tentacle might not take as long. And a couple of other GMs are really quick to take down (I'm looking at you, Kraken!)

Like I said, if you have GOOD teams who have done Lusca before, and a leader willing to give commands, it can be done with maybe 14 people (I've done it). But if you've got a pack of newcomers, or people who don't like taking orders, or cannot take the hint when the tentacles come up a certain way... It can be a disaster.

It's excellent training for running any given large scale raid, Rikti or Hami, because of that. It's like herding cats, until someone finally gets it in their head "oh, the tank needs us to just attack THEIR tentacle!" ... dur. But some folks just don't know that.

I'd love it if Lusca gave either more xp, better merits, or SOMETHING, because as she is now, she's pretty lame for such a wild ride requiring many people. I've never, ever seen Eo and Jack take nearly as long as Lusca, though I've also seen Eo and Jack go down to one full team.

Is there any way in game to measure the actual "hit points" of a Giant Monster? (I know everyone's damage scales, but there has to be some number that the critter starts with, that once exceeded, it's defeated.)

Or any other objective measure of a critter's "difficulty"?

If so, how do the individual parts of Lusca compare to other GMs?

If you hold your cursor on the red health bar in the target menu, if you give it about 5 seconds, it'll tell you exactly how much HP they have.

The problem being that, once a character had the badge, the player stopped caring due to the small XP/ Inf reward for such a huge battle.

Yeah exactly. For a while, I would run a Lusca if there were people in the zone who hadn't done it before, it was lots of fun. But people are distracted by the other shinies in the game now.

You'll also find that people have a metric F-Ton of endurance. Giant Monsters? Like... 8,000end.
