Dechs, I'll have to compare and Contrast my bot/traps build with yours.
I took A LOT of your advice on my warshade build, so being able to see another one of your priced builds would really help to make sure we're on the same page.
Granted, i think my playstyle it a little more aggressive then yours, but all in all i think it'll be a good contrast to see how you do things. -
Put my vote in for dark/WP.
You have self heal in dark/, stacking -tohit to suppliment WPs inherent defense (and -tohit in RttC which everyone forgets is there) and you can basically toggle up, and just smash things.
Your AoE will be a little limited unless you like shadow maul (i hate it) until you hit 35 (then you can grab some AoE goodness in your epic/patron powers) but you'll be basically unkillable with unlimited recovery, and just smash things to pieces. -
I'd pick my bot/traps.
Mainly because I've invested literally 3 years of my life into the character, and because she started soloing AVs at level 25 (before i even got the assault bot).
She's built like a brickhouse, she's out tanked stone tankers (as in lastest longer in a fight then they did) she's duo'ed both the ITF and the LGTF, and gone about 80% of the way into a solo RSF, before the poison trap changes so before incarnates as well. I just flat out love the character. -
Don't the PvP damage procs do 'moderate' damage (i/e, the purple proc level of damage) instead of 'minor' damage like the normal PvE damage procs? even in PvE zones?
-
I have my old 4870 HD and i love it. Its a little loud, and had i had to tweak the fan to keep the things cooled, but its mainly cuz i have my system in a cubby hole half its size, with no ventilation.
it runs basicially everyting i want out of Ultra mode, and works wonders. If i were to upgrade, I'd prolly go for the 6870, as its pretty much the best bang for the buck right now (being about 200 bucks) Just get something with more then 512 ram (my 4870 only has 512, and it gets overwhelemed sometimes) -
I'll stack rage when i know i need the damage NOW. If i don't need the damage or tohit as much, then i'll only hit it to ignore the -defense debuff. On my SS/invuln i have enough end issues that if i keep up rage everytime its recharged, i'll bottom out pretty quickly (especially with the double rage + hasten end crashes) So i try to pace myself best i can.
Against psi enemys though, its either double stack rage to smash its face in, or throw on darkest night to kill the enemys around it. Both options put a hurt on my end bar, but its better then dying. -
The things i do on every character as quickly as they get access are:
Invention/AE tutorial. Its an easy badge, and lets me clear the contacts of my active list. Usually takes about 5 - 10 minutes for both)
Anything to unlock Ouroborus. There are plenty of missions/badges that unlock it, so i do my best to catch atleast one on my way to leveling.
Cimcity unlock. Available from level 20 or higher i think, this allows me to start the ITF once i ding 35 if i want to.
Vanguard introduction arc. I do this as soon as i can, so i can earn vanguard merits off any rikti kills i make afterwards. Plus it gives the vanguard gloves right away.
H side, i'll unlock my store origin contact, just because i run SOs till 47, I'll also do Ghost Falcon as soon as i can.
After that, i just hitch a ride on TFs, or run arcs i haven't ran in awhile, just to refresh myself on whats going on in the world. -
I'm pretty sure i used 4 or 5 expendients plus the +Bu proc. This allows stoney to have decent damage/acc/end reduct, and pretty nice burst damage when the BU proc goes off.
Turns him into a pretty nice beast on my earth/rad. I debuff things down, keep them in the quicksand, and stoney wrecks some faces for me. Its all very beautiful. -
Put my vote in for Cold, with Pain being a close second.
Pain allows her to buff you pretty nicely, gives her some good heals to keep you up when you take burst damage (one of the things that will down a willpower quickly) and even gives her some debuff to use to help you kill things faster. Beam/pain would be a pretty nice combo, especially if your taking the lead, which will allow her to disentegrate things left and right, and keep you up and active when things hit the fan. -
I usually run TFs in level ranges where i can't stand the content (or recently ran the content) I run about 4 - 8 alts at a time, burning off rested XP on each character and then moving onto the next one.
This allows me to gain 2 -3 levels at a time, but also puts a lot of my characters into the same level ranged. I've used CEBR to get my claw/elec brute from level 28 to 35 so i could run vanguard stuff, and I've ran task forces on my demon/thermal to get her closer to 50.
This game isn't very slow, especially if you can get on steamrolling teams. SSK does AMAZING things to the speed of this game.
Heck, running the hollows in a team STILL nets you about 10 - 12 levels, due to gaining over 2 off frostfire, and about 4 off a clear all Atta mission (i love me some troll killin) -
Boxing could also be used as a mule, as could jab (on a brute, jab on a tanker is far more useful in an actual attack chain, due to the 20% -res) All of them make excellent mules, so you can slot better sets into your harder hittings attacks (like KoB, and Haymaker)
-
I always come back to City. I've left about 3 - 4 times, always for that bigger game with orcs and humans, but I end up coming back. The freedom to have alts (you really have no idea how awesome that is) plus being able to take on more then 2 minions at a time is beyond awesome, and the main reasons i come back all the time.
The graphics keep getting better. I enjoy that fact they try really hard to make it seem 'real' instead of obviously ripping off cartoons. Even the 'mythical creatures' don't seem out of place, and it can totally pass off as a true 'City of Heroes' -
Quote:But most do offer Badge missions, or even temp powers (i think you get flash bang grenades from one of the 5 - 9 contacts)To be fair, the level 5-9 contacts outside of the Hollows have never been anything special. Sure, you might find a few badge missions among them, but there's no connecting story arc among them. They're all one-shot missions.
Granted, they are INSANELY easy to out level, but they do offer nifty things. I'd be nice if after 'saving atlas' your introduced to the origin contact you would've gotten after your 'intro contact' from before. -
Now the other unlocks, with the astral merits, Like the chest emblems, and the costume change emotes, and the ascension armor are Account wide. so once you buy them on 1 character, you have them forever on all characters. even brand new ones you make.

My ice/kin tanker is a 'Water Bender' of the 'Avatar the last airbender' kind. Recolored all his kinetic melee attacks to be light blue, and the flow of them fits water.
My fire/kin corr is a remake of my fire mage from that game with orcs and humans. There are 3 mage elements there (ice, fire, arcane) so i recolored all the kinetic attacks to match the 'arcane' feel, and as some of the attacks do similar things in both games, it fits her concept really well. -
-
If you have to slots for it, Brawl is a pretty good set mule, especially when it costs you 0 endurnace to use, and recharges pretty quickly on its own.
I'm not sure you'll actually need 5 kinetic combats on an SS/invuln build to softcap lethal/smash, especially if you have tough/weave/tough hide, and the steadfast proc. I think my SS/invuln caps lethal/smash with 4 mobs in melee range (due to invincibility) And i only have 1 kinetic combat set.. -
I'm thinking the question is actually:
"Doctor Who?" Which implies both that no one really knows the Doctor, and that the Doctor changes every once in awhile. -
Quote:The thing you want to consider, is that brutes got a higher damage scale on claws attacks, instead of lowered endurance cost, and lowered recharge (which is what scrappers got)Well, if Claws are better on a brute, but by so little as to really matter, then they are effectively not better, right? And in fact, given statistical variation, may actually be better sometimes on a Scrapper. And if it is better sometimes on a Scrapper, then (given a good string of luck) it might consistently be better on a scrapper.
So, it's probably better on a Scapper.
Okay, i'm away from my desk for awhile, having solved that. Sheesh.
Because of that, brutes will out class scrappers using claws, but the margin will mostly depend on secondaries (a claw/WP brute will be light years ahead of a claw/wp scrapper, but a claw/EA scrapper will do slightly better then a claw/EA brute) -
While just about all my characters are IO'ed, I know how to run with SOs, and i typically build a build in Mids with IOs, and try to duplicate the values best i can with SOs (i/e, if a power has 95% dam, 40% acc, and 60% rech, i slot 3 dam, 1 acc, 2 rech) Its not a perfect system, but it works.
IOs aren't required for anything, They are a bonus. When you stop paying, or haven't paid enough to access them, you lose that bonus. It sucks, but it happens.
Now, if they had a 'Permanent per character' option for like 10 bucks (not sure how many points that is...1000 or so?) then I'd be cool with that. You could either unlock ALL your characters for a month for $2 (160 points) or unlock a specific character forever, for $10. -
Quote:But /local is A LOT easier to ignore and bypass (its range is limited, its hard to spot, and i don't even think it brings up a 'chat bubble' then /tells and emails..Oh, and the /tell and email restrictions haven't completely destroyed RMTers. Within the last month I've been in the market in Atlas on Freedom and had at least two different spammers use /local to hawk their wares.
Naturally I immediately ignored them as spammer, but they are apparently still trying to make money this way.
Any /tell you get not just shows up as bright yellow on your chat window, but it dings a noise as well, to let you know you got a tell.
emails light up red on your chat bar, and can be a bother if you actually use them to send messages back and forth between players (sort of like an extended offline tell) -
Simply put, those who are preaching for free accounts to get access to /tell without having a pay wall, either don't remember, or weren't around for the massive spam we all had to deal with when i9 first dropped.
First, it was broadcast. Then it went to blind team invites, then it went to /tells, then it hit emails. It was literally like that (and you could get hit with multiple instances of those variants) every few MINUTES.
It didn't matter if you /hide or /ghide, or even created an entirely new character. They had people sitting in the tutorial zones, writing down names of people who popped in. They had people under the globe in Atlas, every WW, every train station, just writing down names.
I rotate out my alts after they burn off their patrol XP, so i would cycle ALL my characters about every 10 days. I'd log one of them in, and have over 100 emails/offline tells from spammers PER CHARACTER.
So.. yeah.. big fat NO. -
Quote:And thats because RMT use trial accounts which also don't have access to /tell..I do not think this will work as well as intended...
I've never received a /tell RMT request/offer, and any time I am flooded with RMT spam it is always /local. (Little over a year game time.)
Which Free players start with access too...
If this was the only reason free players had /tells crippled, that is about as useful as using padlocks to keep out criminals.
So.. yeah, its effective :P especially if your still getting /local spam. -
Quote:Like people who resub the same month a game goes free, just to post on the forums about how much free/premium players get screwed?and Mr. Iltat needs to remind himself that he is also a small part of the community. If you have friends and are chatting in the game and find a problem with a certain something then you are going to say something. Yes Elvnsword speaks for more than just himself. I haven't tried the AE farm yet to be honest but I usually find his arguements to be logical based and not just him fussing. So either you agree with what he say or you don't and find somewhere else to post something. Not everyone wants your aggravation. Spread some peace people. Take it out on the bad guys or something.
We get it, you don't like it. But ya know what? We just don't care anymore. -
Quote:Ok, lets break this down.If you have to put ANY money down to receive it then it's not free.
You know and to add to this. Beam Rifle costs 800 points. Two times the 'free' points. You HAVE to buy something you would have gotten 'free' in ANY OTHER ISSUE EVER if you want to use it.
Ninja Run. Could you have gotten that for your normal $15/month?
Mystic Fortune. Could you have gotten that for your normal $15/month?
Steam punk costume set. Could you have gotten that for your normal $15/month?
Now you can. How is that NOT more then you had before, without spending any extra money?
