If you could have ONE MM, what would it be?

Ok, so I am a bit of an altoholic, and I am trying to get to 50. My favorite archetype is the MM. However, I am having a hard time figuring out what powersets I wish to stick with. So. . .

If you could have a single mastermind, what would it be?

Currently I have: level 20 necro/FF
level 27 Bots/dark
level 28 Thugs/Poison
level 14 necro/dark
and a level 11 ninja/dark

So whats your favorite (out of all of them, not just the ones I have listed) and why?

I have 4 MMs, and out of them I find my Demons/Storm to be the most fun to play. The playstyle can be nice and variable, I can play in a chaotic style, or a sedate style, so this mix is great for both soloing and teaming.

I have a level 32 ill/storm troller. Storm doesnt feel like something I want to go with again atm :P Thanks for your input though. I may sway that way within the next couple days, who knows.

MMs are my favorite AT as well and I'd have to say my Thugs/Dark (who is also my namesake) was definitely the most fun to play.

Two words: Gang War.

I was actually teamed with a buddy when I first got GW & we decided to try it out for the first time on some even-leveled baddies. We peed ourselves stupid at the ridiculousness (& awesomeness) of it. Good stuff!

My Bots/Storm would have to be my #2.

PS- Being able to name each of your pets individually just opens up a whole new world of concepts & fun. For instance, Spawn of Santa has his "little helpers" that are all named after elves from various works & my Bots/Storm, ColecoVision, has pets named after Coleco catridges. I've seen some very clever MMs out there that use the pet naming feature to great effect.

I have several MMs and enjoy all of them.. okay this is going to definately show a bit of favortism for 2ndary powers LOL

Demon/DM 50 level

Thugs/DM 50 Level (incarnate)

Bots/DM 50 level (incarnate)

Merc/Dev 45 level

heheh Like i said I have a thing for Dark Maisma.. I like the debuffs .. even my heal debuffs enemies and my rez is a powerful disorienting tool. I have told team mates before I hope you have awakes because I can't promise my rez will be charged if you die.. I will use it to daze mobs long before that happens!

as for the primary.. Demons was a lot of fun to play but Bots does the most damage in my opinion. Thugs is great too and Siege and Northstar usually look quite suprised when they both rez and suddenly in additon to my normal band of 6 minions ..a swarm of gang members arrives and starts clubbing them to death. LOL I have also used Gang war during the prisoner escape phase with a great deal of success .. of course then its not available to suprise the two AVs... if it is we are taking WAYYYY too long hehehe

Hey play whatever you like. I recently crossed my mercs/Dev over from infinity to virtue and turned her into a hero (Always did find it a little funny for a villain to be running around with soldiers) Been a while since I played her and most people bad mouth the set as under powered but she can solo anything including Malta!

I do can tell wich sets i wouldnt pick.

Mercs is easiest primairy i never will take again, not untill they revamp the set.

Forcefield is way too passive, only have the set on my gravity/ but not really my style.

My 2 favorite primairies will be Ninja and Necro. Great solid damage, nice control, though somewat squishy. Secondairy i'll go with /trap and /thermal, trap has lovely alpha hitters and control, while thermal is great for support on healing and buffing. Pain is a great substitude for thermal.

Dark is pretty fun, but i kinda hate the chance of missing with the heal ability, although that rarely happens (and fear is plain awsome).

If I have to pick one, which I want to anyway:

I would pick Demons/Force Field.

Demons just seem to be the best pets.
They have very desirable and powerful debuffs(slows and -resist).
They have more exotic damage types including fire, cold and toxic.
They have resistance buffs much more than any other pet set.

Demons are just awesome.

Force Field is very good as well. It's probably the easiest to manage set with some of the most desirable buffs in the game. The defense buffs, toxic resist buffs, endurance drain/recovery debuff resistance and mez protection all work extremely well with any pet set.
It works even better with demons due to the layered defenses of defense in front and resistance and mez protection behind that.

The best part is that Force Field leaves you free to manage your pets and your position in relation to them most of the time. It even gives you time(and defense to avoid interruption) the heal from the Medicine pool to heal your pets if need be(usually won't be needed with Force Field and Demon resistances).

If I had to choose a second choice it would probably be Demons/Sonic Resonance, and third would likely be Robots/Force Field with 4th being Demons/Time Manipulation.

MM are da bomb, so why take only one?

If you insist on limiting your pleasure, you should indicate what you want OUT of the 'just one' MM.

If you want the set that can 'do it all', and have enough options to keep you busy and entertained, try Dechs Kaison's Bots/Trap build:

http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=273223

Is concept important? Then try a Demons/Thermal or Demons/Time.

Do you want pure entertaining mayhem? Try Thugs/Dark or Thugs/Trap.

Do you find pets at all frustrating to manage? (Those medics, arsonists, and other crazy pets that never, ever do the right thing...) Again I found Bots least frustrating for this.

So for me, the top sets are Bots / Demons / Thugs, and the secondaries are Trap / Time / Thermal / Dark. Then I look at what I actually enjoy (do I want a buff I can drop on a char to let them know I care? Do I need a heal cuz I'm a kindly villain? Is it integral to my concept that I be able to suck out your soul and use your last dreg of life-force to heal my minions, all while laughing maniacally?)

Since those are ALL fun things to do... it's not hard to see why I likely have more MM's than any other archetype.

My favorite MM is far from the most uber. If I could only play one MM it would be my Thugs/Poison.

Why? I like the concept of my mad scientist mastermind. Poison gives me plenty to do without feeling overwhelmed or annoyed. Thugs are tough enough to do well even though Poison isn't the most powerful or safest secondary. (With thugs, you can slot all four +def/+res pet uniques by using Gang War, which really helps survivability.) Poison recently got some buffs that are nice. I solo quite a bit, and soloing allows me to run at, say, +3 x1 if I want, as Poison does better with fewer, more difficult targets. Poison is also a good match for a set with a really strong third-tier melee pet, like the Bruiser.

Ultimately, given that you want to level an MM to 50, you need to decide what is most fun. Most MM combinations are easily playable (the worst MM pairing is far more survivable and "go get 'em" powerful than a poor defender/controller/corruptor pairing, for example). Figure out what makes a character compelling to play for you. For some, it's concept. For others, it's sheer power. For a few, it's doing amazing things with less than optimal powersets.

What makes a toon fun for you? You're going to be spending time with a toon you're leveling to 50. Make sure you enjoy it.

Out of the ones I have... probably my Necro/TA. Nothing against my bots/storm or ninja/thermal, just fun to play zombie Robin Hood and his zombie Merry Men. It does the job pretty well too, and its always fun to play a rarely seen but still useful build.

If I was going to make a fresh MM to be my one and only... hmm. Thats tough. Demons/therm would be tempting, but kinda cliche. I think I might roll with necro/storm. Though the lack of -regen would bother me.

Here you come with a stupid name like Fixer - brutalkillz_

I have every MM primary now(except for lolmercs) all accompanied by different secondaries but IF I had to choose just one of them it would be my first and "main" MM which is my Thugs/dark.

That was the first time i felt the true power of the MM class, the ability to support my own mini team that also happens to be amazing spawn clearers. And when I was able to clear the whole maria jenkins arc chock full of AVs for the first time on any of my previous characters, well thats when I decided that the MM class was for me and that any and all future projects has to be a pet class lol.

op : I seriously have not come across a combination I've disliked, thanks in no small part to these boards. So long as I have a kernel of a concept to hang onto I'm good to go.

If I had to delete all my masterminds except one, maybe because I lost a terrible bet with my cruel and inhuman spouse (), then I would keep my necro/dark. It was my first character I made, first to 50, and first to try out any new content for the longest time. It is versatile and can handle a wide variety of challenges. In addition, the secondary can be played actively, or you can just sit back and coast on the dark servant/lich debuffage.

Well out of the choices you posted Bots/Dark would be the keeper for me.

My personal favorite MM's
Thugs/Dark
Bots/Traps
Demons/Thermal

Out of your list I'd choose ninja/dark.

Out of all choices I'd choose my main, Ninja/Storm

Since you're not looking for /storm, I'd say Necro/Traps, just for the lulz of blowing up a zombie for mass damage then bringing it back as a ghost

I'd pick my bot/traps.

Mainly because I've invested literally 3 years of my life into the character, and because she started soloing AVs at level 25 (before i even got the assault bot).

She's built like a brickhouse, she's out tanked stone tankers (as in lastest longer in a fight then they did) she's duo'ed both the ITF and the LGTF, and gone about 80% of the way into a solo RSF, before the poison trap changes so before incarnates as well. I just flat out love the character.

For me it would be my Thug/Dark.

i have 6 mm

ninja/dark (who is also my main)
bot/pain
zombie/ff
thug/therm
merc/sonic
demon/trap

out of all of them of course my main is my fav but my demon trap is prolly my number 2. merc sonic i just made last night rerolled from merc/poison

I'm pretty crazy about my Bots/Storm MM. So if I could only have one that would probably be it.

However, /Time is definitely my favorite MM secondary. I'm having a blast with my Ninja/Time and Necro/Time.

Killjoy - AR/Kin Cor | Grimwind - Dark/Cold Corr
Fallowlord - Plant/Ice Dom | Game Warden - TA/A Def
Thought Police - Mind/Psi Dom | Gammarauder - Rad/Traps

Hmmmm. This would be a difficult choice for me.

I'd never be able to delete Sanguine Sanction (Bots/Poison), her backstory is just too good to waste like that.
Galaxy's Vengeance (Necro/Time) is too new to delete, and I know the combo is a potentially insane powerhouse later.

This is hard!

I'm a really big fan of Thugs/Traps. A huge portion of the game will feel like cheating and the rest will only require that you exercise actual caution.

For just plain fun, Necro/Traps is my favorite. Send in your lich, detonate him for massive damage, then extract his soul and resummon so you can run with two boss level pets for a couple minutes. Both Thugs and Necro are among the few primaries that allow slotting of the recharge intensive IO sets with their excellent bonuses.

Demons/dark anyday.

Between my and my wife's accounts we have leveled Thugs/Pain, Thugs/Dark, and Bots/Traps to 50 with several other combos not quite there yet. Of them all, I would have to say Thugs/Pain is my favorite so far.

That said, I'm itching to roll either a Demon/Dark or Demon/Therm, so those would probably be my next builds even if all of my MMs were lost and I had to start over. Now, which to roll first... (Die-Hard Altitis at work)

As witness various threads of mine in this forum , I've tried a whole lot of things in the last month. Robots/force field is the combo that's brought me greatest happiness - least fuss to level, a buff I'm comfortable handing out when grouping, and just a riotous good time as the pet team fills out.

But really, the overwhelming majority of the considerations tipping me against this or that combo were purely personal. I don't like relatively long casting animations, for instance. But it's not like there's anything wrong with dark. I like my pets to have the same appearance each time. But who'd be stupid enough to say thugs is broken? And so forth and so on. I had a good time every time, and only had to choose the best times for me right now, with a waiting list of future contenders for when I have some more free attention.
