I will do this.
Thank you for the addresses and the tips, very good info.
And a reminder, CEO's (in general) don't care about your love for the game, your long history of subbing, or your threats to never buy from them again (we are 2-3% of their playerbase). Although the love and history should be mentioned.
CEO's do care about sound, economic business cases. Whether you plead for them to spin it off into a subsidiary, continue it under a different economic model, save the database and code and consider a 'reboot', try to make it a sound business proposal.
Polite and respectful too, I guess. That never hurts, but in this case is even more important. -
Gotta say, more fond memories of my times in the City than just about any other game in a long history of gaming!
Thank you for the good times, and wherever, whenever, here's hoping there's more to be had!
@Cosmic Balance -
It's interesting that you say you tried them on a 'brand new' mastermind. I hadn't been seeing mine working (the GR preorder procs), so decided to create a new MM and try again.
While my new Bots/Time MM was less than level 6, the "bonus damage" messages DID show up. Up til that point I had only one bot, my level. I thought 'Ah, cool, they DO work!' (I had just the one smashing damage proc in the bot at that time, with 2 training ACC)
I did the starter mishes, leveled to both 6 and 7 in one run, got my new Enhance Robot power, slotted in 2 more procs to the bots (lethal and psionic). Called it a night, logged off and went to bed.
Next day (today), I log in, summon my bots (now 2, one level lower than me), toss the upgrade bot on them, and go to town on ToT doors and missions.
No bonus damage messages anywhere. Checked the pet combat tab for over an hour of play, not a single bonus damage message. Wondered if it was the upgrade power, resummoned the bots with NO upgrade, tried again. Still no bonus damage messages.
So somewhere in that process (hitting level 6 or 7, adding 2 more procs, getting the 1st upgrade power, or simply logging off my 'first' session with that MM) either the procs stopped working, or the 'bonus damage' messages did.
Anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on here? Would love to slot these powers into pets but its a waste if something prevents them from firing. -
Quote:MM are da bomb, so why take only one?Ok, so I am a bit of an altoholic, and I am trying to get to 50. My favorite archetype is the MM. However, I am having a hard time figuring out what powersets I wish to stick with. So. . .
If you could have a single mastermind, what would it be?
If you insist on limiting your pleasure, you should indicate what you want OUT of the 'just one' MM.
If you want the set that can 'do it all', and have enough options to keep you busy and entertained, try Dechs Kaison's Bots/Trap build:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=273223
Is concept important? Then try a Demons/Thermal or Demons/Time.
Do you want pure entertaining mayhem? Try Thugs/Dark or Thugs/Trap.
Do you find pets at all frustrating to manage? (Those medics, arsonists, and other crazy pets that never, ever do the right thing...) Again I found Bots least frustrating for this.
So for me, the top sets are Bots / Demons / Thugs, and the secondaries are Trap / Time / Thermal / Dark. Then I look at what I actually enjoy (do I want a buff I can drop on a char to let them know I care? Do I need a heal cuz I'm a kindly villain? Is it integral to my concept that I be able to suck out your soul and use your last dreg of life-force to heal my minions, all while laughing maniacally?)
Since those are ALL fun things to do... it's not hard to see why I likely have more MM's than any other archetype. -
Not directly on topic, but related:
Just tried a couple of the new 'Reward Program' starter enhancements (Will of the Seers, Might of the Empire etc) on my MM demonling pets.
Although these say 'boost any damage or recharge' and although they fit in Pet enh slots, the associated +damage and knockdown procs do not appear to fire off at all.
Not an expert on how to judge this, but turned on all pet damage combat msgs and nothing appears but their own attacks and damage types (eg, no psionic or energy dmg from the procs) and after many many fights not one KD has occurred.
The +Recharge aspect HAS shortened the recharge time of the Summon Demonling power, however I can't really tell if the +Damage (16.7% I think) applies to all their attacks. (The tooltip on the power says +33% dmg but thats not necessarily proof.)
Probably that is WAI, too bad though it would have been nice to get some early procs on the pets (the procs stop at level 21 so I don't think it would be an unbalancer).
Just FYI.
Bitto
(Edit: Biowraith says they fire (below) - can anyone tell me what combat msg set/tab I need to have active to see them? That being said, the KD one - Might of the Empire - has NOT fired on the demonlings... maybe it needs an attack that uses something other than fire/cold/lethal?) -
Quote:^^^ This. For those of you that do find and play actual story arcs in the AE, thank you. But for the many that either don't, or have stopped. What is the biggest reason that keeps you away from the AE building? Can't find the good arc from all the farms and junk? (...snip...)
I haven't been on a lot lately (I tend to take a break for months, then play hard for a month or so).
But when I am on, I really like the potential and the variety in AE arcs. However, there are just so MANY lame attempts to slog through. And farm after cheesy farm... you would think it was sponsored by the dairy industry.
So for me, it needs better search and filtering tools, and also a SIGNIFICANTLY better rating system. Perhaps a two-stage system where the first easy step is the 1-4 stars or whatever they have now. The second OPTIONAL one should be up to 5 stars in say 3 areas:
Originality:
Difficulty:
Overall Impression:
Most casual players would likely skip the optional ratings all together. Then the fact that an arc gets a secondary rating at all would likely mean it was played by AE afficionados, and judged worth rating.
Then we would need to be able to filter on those ratings in combination, eg, Orig > 2 star, Difficulty < 5 star, Overall > 3 star.
Also, another good filter would be "Number of times arc has been played". This would help me to either support new arcs, OR to play ones that have been of interest to a lot of other players. I would like to somehow be able to exclude farms from that search though.
Maybe thats a bit too complicated but with tens of thousands of arcs to search through I need good tools to winnow them down before I will spend valuable play time trying to find that shiny needle in the haystack. -
Quote:No, the lag was rough, period. I have a fast business internet connection and the lag had little to do with ping times. At least generated on the users end.Lag was rough but I chalk most of that up to my very slow connection. Got the badge pretty soon into the event though and snagged a steampunk code right after it was over!
Thanks for that Zwill. d(^.^d)
THANK YOU devs for a fun and entertaining event!
Best quote of the night for me was Anti-matters "I wuz in ur dimenshun killin ur d00ds!" (can't remember exact quote but that was the gist of it).
Golden - girl got the Cole'd Shoulder toward the end but I missed just how she dissed him.
As for the lag, yes, it was truly horrid (in Steel and KR, anyway). Even basic movement was not possible at times and many graphics might as well have been stop-motion photos.
One thing I did notice, is that the lag prevents accurate recharge status on your powers. So that a power LOOKS recharged but isn't. You can click on that power for like a minute and nothing will happen.
I got better results when I clicked powers in a sequence that I knew the next one would be recharged, and give them plenty of time to cycle again. So of course this works better for high-level chars with many powers. Next time you are in a lagfest try that.
That being said, maybe the CoH server team should take a tour of the facilities at EVE Online or World of Tanks, where they run fast-action graphics games with 10 times the population per server and don't experience that kind of lag.
Anyways, the spirit was entertaining though the web was weak.TY to all devs who participated it was well done, well coordinated and well played!

Yes actually, my rage-crashing brute is one of the ones I want to use them on. And, as suggested, my Bots MM who doesn't find his own attacks worth taking but occasionally wants to pull or nab a runner.
So, if the globals work, which is good, how about insps? Do they add anything to those vet/temp powers? -
Saw this title and hoped it would address this question, but didn't want to threadjack the other member's thread.
We have a number of powers (temp and vet) that are unenhanceable / unbuffable. Does this only apply to insps and things like Aim or Buildup, or is it across the board?
I am thinking things like IO set bonuses (for +ACC or +DAM), globals like the Kismet +6% ToHit, things like that. Do they affect the temp/vet powers at all or are they truly unenhanceable in any way?
Reason I am asking, couple of my chars (MM's, melee coners, etc) would like to get some decent usage out of these powers (partic. vet Sands of Mu) and I am wondering if there is any way to make them more effective.
Yes, I know, they probably aren't efficient compared to slotted powers, but hey if I am lined up to hit 4 guys with Shadowmaul why not toss a Sands of Mu on them for dessert? -
K, here is build I am currently working on. Not rich by any means so will be a while before I can get all those Lotg 7.5's and some of the other stuff, but I am patient.
Build doesn't need to be uber as long as it is workable and people don't see glaring holes that will get me killed. It's a better build than what she has now so can't go too wrong I guess.
(Apologies if it is posted in the wrong format, not sure how to post a build properly so I sorta pasted this together.)

|-------------------------------------------------------------------| -
Hello forumers,
I am a long-time vet but a newbie on high-end IO builds. Although I do read a lot of the forum advice so I know some of the basice. Particularly since i19 is making me respec all my chars I am shaking my head at many of my old slottings and going "What was I thinking?"
One char that has me a bit stumped is my level 50 emp/dark/dark. I do solo at times, but she is mostly team support I guess. Although I consider blasting to be team support as well.
Could anyone steer me towards a build for this? I know it should enhance recharge, and probably some ranged defense, but other than that I am not really sure. I have checked the forums but very few Emp/Dark discussions at all, much less builds.
A couple of points: I'm not a fan of Absorb Pain (though I know the arguments) or of Dark Pit or Oppressive gloom. Don't like Torrent much either.
My current build has CJ, SJ, Acrobatics, Hasten, SS and Stealth, all of which I use at various times. Unless there is good reason not to I would like to keep those.
Last point I guess is that I normally use IO's around level 31 so I can exemp down for various things.
Not trying to be picky just giving my background if anyone can help. Thanks much and happy holidays! -
WHAT?!? NO MENTION of *MY* truly AWESOME arcs? What is this some kind of POPULARITY contest? Only the TOP forum posters allowed?
*I* should have won, *I* am the true talent here, *I* don't get the proper recognition, I can't believe this is happening! AGAIN!
This makes me so MAD I could just... just... well dammit I guess I am going to have to go write my first MA story or something. You just see if I don't!
Watch for it!
Global: @K.West -
On almost all my chars, I try to develop a full set of contacts at each level range (1-4, 5-9, 10-14 etc). That means get all the contacts I can in that range, do enough missions to at least get their cell # and full store access.
I then try to cherry-pick the best missions to finish before levelling to the next range. And yes, thank heavens for the No XP option. So I want to get Bocors Loa Bone before levelling to 10, and the various safeguards, and the missions that grant specific powers etc.
Once that is done, there is so MUCH content that I try a bit here and there before I get impatient and level up to the next range. So I still end up missing a lot of content on each char.
Why not play it all? Well, with 60+ alts, at least 20 of them "favourites", each char can't play it all. Not in any reasonable time anyway.
I imagine it has been covered before, but has anyone done a "Best Content To Go through at Each Level Range" guide? I really don't mind missing the "Hunt 20 Tsoo" missions, but yes I also enjoyed the Dr. Vahzilok arc and Frostfire (always a fave) and Faultine arcs, or getting Warwolf whistles and Scrolls of Ruin for popping off some missions.
Merry Holidays! -
Scheduled server downtimes are posted in the News And Announcements section. They state they are publishing a patch this morning, expected downtime 2 hours.
-
I've also seen the slot-crunch with the cool new powers, but realized one thing: Even if I only one-slot the power and NEVER use it, I'm no WORSE off than I was before.
Quite a few of my chars never had Fitness anyway, so I slot their powers as before and one-slot the new Inherent Fitness. Just cuz you have Stamina doesn't mean you HAVE to 3-slot it.
And finally, when I have been faced with a true embarrasment of riches, I have found that very carefully managing my IO slotting and frankeslotting, I can generally get nearly the same bonuses from 5 slots as I did from 6 before, even though I may give up a small set bonus here and there.
So careful work with Mids and IO sets may give you some of the extra slots. -
Thank you all for excellent and thought-provoking replies. Especially the ones with some number-crunching to show the actual effect.
What I had in mind was along the lines of the "farming the TF in 15 minutes vs. 4 hours reply". Along with the various 'law of unintended consequences' formulations.
In past games I've noted how absolutely ingenious a portion of the playerbase will be in milking absolute advantage out of anything that comes along. Something along the lines of "If I can fill X% of my defense needs with this one Alpha slot, then I can move these 4 slots here, IO for more global recharge and accuracy (since I need less defense), skip Weave and add Y".
Then me and my 4 SG mates who've all done the same can now run this TF in half the time, get mondo merits and rewards, market them fast, and become BILLIONAIRES!!!
(singing "Well I'll tell you all a story 'bout a Hero named Jed...")
Well, ok, so lots of players do that already.Mostly I was getting at unintended trivialization of existing content, distorting the marketplace even further than it already is, and setting up conditions where people might say "We want 3 more for TF, Alpha's only".
Those kind of things. I think that the replies here show that even with more slots to come, the system is well thought out and maybe not as powerful as it seems at first glance.
Much appreciated, carry on with the ubernosity! -
Okay, so I have no one with an Alpha Slot. I didn't beta. I only have a couple of 50's, even.
So I'm damn near as qualified to discuss this as anyone you see on TV discussing anything...
Having taken a look at the Alpha descrip page, and the powers of the Alpha slots, and thinking hmmm, more Incarnate slots to come, and then thinking back on some of the lessons learned from years in various types of gamecrafting...
It seems to me the Incarnate slots are overpowered.
(Yes, I know, poopstorms of bad karma will fall on me for that, but I have here my sturdy bumbershoot and a bottle of Febreeze so I HAVE NO FEAR!)
Digressions aside, slots that add 30-50% to ALL of a characters main powers just seem over the top to me. We already have heroes/villains who can solo AV's and GM's, though I don't suggest that is a large proportion of the playerbase. It only takes a small proportion of min/maxed characters to distort a game out of shape though.
What kind of challenges can they present to players who can already solo virtually anything in the game, who then get 30-50% more powerful (roughly)?
If this has already been done to death elsewhere, just point me in the right direction and I'll go away. Quietly.
I promise. -
I saw this phrase in one of the guides to making influence.
Said he would combine 3 large inspirations to (maybe) get a purple, and then vend that.
Maybe I misunderstood it, but when I look at combining 3 large inspirations it just shows me the list of the usual large inspirations to select from.
Is there some sort of chance that combining 3 large will produce something else? Or did he just mean purple/luck/defense are the most valuable to resell (more valuable than 3 others?) -
Yes, your characters all had a freespec (/respec) on them from the release of Going Rogue.
Any character who had used up their freespec's were given a new one upon the release of i19. So all characters had one at that point.
You can use your CURRENT freespec to spec out of fitness pool, update powers, sell off old enhancements in favor of new ones etc.
If you mess up or don't get things quite right, or want to save more than 10 enhancements from out of your current build, you will get ANOTHER freespec on Dec. 8th, although I am not sure what the exact timing on that will be.
Freespec's do NOT stack, you can have only one, so use'em or lose'em. That being said, if you can get the job done with the freespec you have now, then after Dec.8th you will have one saved for emergency use.
You may also have 'veteran' respecs available under your Veteran Badges tab if you have accumulated enough paid time over the years.
Hope that answers your questions, more info in the Patch Notes in the Announcements section. -
I did the 'let your dollars do the talking' thing and used the PayPal DONATE button on the Mids download page to send them a little encouragement.
It's not an answer to your question (sorry) but just thought I would remind people that, if someone is working hard to update a resource that many of us find indispensable, it doesn't hurt to toss a little encouragement/appreciation their way.
Given what I pay to play/update the game, seems shortsighted not to pay something for the improvement of such a valuable resource.
Hope it's available soon! -
(In response to previous message)
I have to say that there have been a couple things that have irked me for almost 6 years now... and every time I encounter them I go "How freakin' long is it going to take them to fix/improve this?".
I can now say that all but one of those items have been fixed. (The last one is the inability to hit ANY key - even Alt-Tab or the Windows key - while logging out)
Thank you devs, for not only providing a great (free!) update, but also for listing and fixing some of those persistent QoL issues for us.
Hugs and happy Alpha-Striking to all! -
Sweet, but with that much panelling at least one of the rooms needs a shag carpet.
-
I've listed some of the new links to the "beginner" base-building guides, as those should be the first ones a new basebuilder is looking for.
A Guide to Small Bases in Issue 7 - by Jagged
Guide to base building for the small SG [I8] - by Bonker
Single-member and/or Starter Base Building Guide - by tiredinnuendo [I8?]
Hope that helps any new base-builders out there!
(Note: the i8 ones are more useful because they reflect reduced base item costs, others are for reference) -
Do they normally run this promo around this time? ie, end November-early December?
If so I will try to adjust my account so it auto-renews during that period anyway, and then I won't have to do an annual cancel/re-sub (that only works for the first year anyway, since if you cancel any time during the re-enlist period you lose the free months).
If anyone has advice on when they 'usually' run this (I assume it is not a fixed policy) please let me know.
Thanks much! -
Quote:Well actually, it is NCSoft who said the 'to North American' part, not Best Buy. Best Buy clearly states "to US residents only". So I believe it is NCSoft who has trouble reading maps.I suspect that you have to complain to Best Buy, not NCsoft/Paragon Studios about that.
Also, on the NCSoft store front, I bought the Good vs. Evil in-game item pack (VIP Card, Jump Pack, etc) through Paypal. Then was rejected 'by the merchant' through Paypal when I tried to buy Cyborg.
Went back to NCSoft store, bought Cyborg using my Mastercard. Tried to buy Magic pack, and was told "Sorry you cannot complete that purchase, please try again later".
Tried again later, "Sorry you cannot complete that purchase".
So along with an inability to read maps, NCSoft apparently suffers from some confusion as to the purpose of a 'store', which is to make it possible for 'customers' to 'buy' things.
Perhaps they spend too much time playing video games and not enough time in 'Operating a Business for Dummies - How to Make Profit and Secure Your Job'.
Please note: all sarcasm is directed at corporate drones who cannot implement a basic function of their business, and not at any posters or players of a great game (at least that part, they in general perform competently).
