  1. No new info on any more EATs since the Arachnos Soldiers showed up.

Yeah, the only reason I really got paranoid about my defenses w/o PF was because of another thread on SD where someone responded about the importance of making sure your defenses were capped w/o PF since someone might not always be right next to you, and I was like "oh crap", but I think with the amount of mitigation SM gives me in addition to SD, and like you said the support I get from others on my team it shouldn't be a big deal.
I think a lot of people in the Tanker forums like to be able to stand alone in 8-man spawns without support. But isn't that what a team is for? There's certainly nothing wrong with that opinion, it's just not one I share. The team can definitely help you do your job without making you not a Tanker.

You will take more damage than if you were at the soft cap on your own, that's not a question here. You will be fine though, so it probably doesn't matter.

If you had said that you were trying for the soft-cap without any friends in range of PF, then we'd have a different situation, and one that we could definitely help you remedy. But I think that you'll do fine with the build you have presented!
  4. Well, overall, I think you did a pretty great job there.

If you don't have people around you giving you the self-buff to defense that Phalanx gives you, then either you're on a small-ish team, and won't need to worry about the last 5% or so, or you're on a larger team and should have enough support with you to make it of no concern to you anyways.

So I wouldn't worry about it too much. Your build should be fine for everything that you come across. Could it be optimized probably? Sure. Will it work just fine how you've got it? Definitely.

I think he was talking about slotting 2 sets of Blessing of the Zephyr, or something like that. Or maybe just that having one set will cap the flight speed, and the second one is only giving you bonuses. Not sure on that last one, though.

I hope so. I16 has kind of ruined the pre-I16 game for me.

  10. Mid's Hero builder is the best one we've got. Use that. I believe that it's been recently updated to include most of the newer numbers and Invention sets.
  11. First off, Taunt is neither necessary nor useless. It is a tool to hold aggro. It is a tool that you can do without, but is nice to have. If you can hold aggro without it, then you can do so. Just because another Tanker used it is no reason to get it yourself if you don't need it.

That being said, I would move a few things around in your build:

Swap out Hurdle for Swift. It will allow you to boost your flight speed a bit. Hurdle isn't doing too much for you.

Move Build Up to level 22, take Health at level 16, and Stamina at 20. That should help you out a little bit, but not too much.

Move either Weave (my preferred) or Unstoppable back. Take Taunt in that place. Or, you could move the entire Fighting pool back, and get Taunt at level 12.
  12. Considering that buying influence is against the EULA, I have no problem with being able to use influence to buy prestige.

If they are buying influence, they can be banned.

And he's not talking about defense debuffs. He's claiming that the extra defense negates their increased accuracy, which according to the algorithm is completely bogus.

So I turn to the Tanker forum, where I figure the majority of the defensive expertise lies. So is he crazy? Is the algorithm incorrect? I'm pretty convinced I'm right, but I figure it's worth posing the question to a different player section (although I'm sure there's plenty of people who read both forums, probably including Folonius).

Here's the link to the discussion
    In short: he's wrong.

If he's level 50, then the enemies are only +2 to him, and don't get a ToHit bonus. Therefore, unless the mobs he's fighting have a ToHit buff going on themselves, and no Defense Debuffs, 45% and 55% should yield the same survivability.
  14. Yeah, what they said. There is absolutely no way that you can play the game unless it is fully updated.
  15. In the Alpha version of the game, you could free-form powersets to an extent (they didn't have as many powers in them back then), but it created a situation where basically everyone was making Tank-mages, while also opening it up for people to make truly un-playable characters (Invuln/Force Field, anyone?). So it's unlikely to happen anytime soon.
  16. More mission variety? Sure!

    Denial Power Set

His point does stand though, to some extent.

Against the foes that you're looking to go against with this kind of thing, like EBs and AVs, they don't have that many powers. To turn off even a few could shut them down entirely. Also, many AVs don't have any defensive toggles at all. They just have a power called 'Resistance'. Would this set turn that off? Considering that it's basically an inherent for them?

What would this set do in PvP? Turning off only one power, that you probably can't chose, would likely do nothing in PvP.

Nor would it be that great in PvE, since it would probably be single-target focused, and therefore not be too useful in a lot of PvE, where area debuffs would be better.

We have all seen those ads coming to our emails in game. Just for kicks i just checked on one of those sites, on my server i can buy like 500m influence for like 18 dollars. It doesnt seem to me that the idea that you would KNOW that the player your playing with had purchased anything with real money would exist if they bought the enhancments pack from NC Soft on a microtransaction any more then you KNOW that the person you team with from your SG bought gold with real money from an outside source currently.

I guess what i am saying is the problem of real money equating to ingame gains already exsists. My thought was i would rather the Devs get the money to keep supporting our game from it rather then some random dude in china or whatever.

It is inresting to see different opinions for why people are opposed.
The practice you are talking about is against the EULA, and if you get caught using it, you can get your account banned.

Why would the Devs implement something they view as bad?
  19. Aett_Thorn

    Prestige levels

The Devs have hinted that they want to create a system where characters can advance beyond level 50 without attaining new levels. How this will work, we're not really sure. However, we have been told that it will be highly unlikely to involve new slots for powers or new powers.

We might get 'global' enhancement slots, or something along those lines, but we don't really know.
  20. ParagonWiki should have up-to-date tables with this information. Are you sure your link is pointing you to the right wiki page? Some of them have not been updated in a while, though the Titan network one should be.

  21. It may not be the best at doing any one thing, but I think the set works fine on its own. It has good AoE capabilities, decent single-target damage (certainly not on par with Stone Melee or SS, but good enough), and some soft control. That'll work for most people. With all of the AoEs, it should be a decent farming Tank as well. That said, it might not be better than some other sets at any one thing, but does all decently well.

So while my /regen scrapper is cowering in fear during a fight, my /nin stalker is just slicing away.

If made to toggles and uniform, I would be stuck helpless like my scrapper.
Before toggles changed to the way they are now (being suppressed, instead of being turned off completely), Click-based mez protection was a little bit more well balanced than it is now, but it still does have some advantages:

    1) Endurance usage: the endurance cost per second for the click-based mez protection powers is significantly lower than the toggles.

    2) Stacking: toggles have a fixed mez protection value, based on level. It can't go higher than that. But, if you can manage to get the click-based mez protections to overlap, you can double your mez protection during that time.

    3) Tend to be exhaustive: as you noted, many of the click-based mez protection powers have more comprehensive mez protections than the toggles. Except for Ninjitsu, which has the KB hole, they tend to cover most everything that you're going to come across, or at least more than similar toggles would have.

However, they do have their drawbacks, too:

    1) Recharge time: before SO levels, it can be hard to ensure that your mez protection is up all of the time. This can lead to periods in the middle of the fight where your mez protection drops, leaving you vulnerable.

    2) Cast time: you do need to fire this off every time you want it. The more recharge you have in it, the more disruptive this can be. To minimize flaw 1, you generally put in a decent amount of recharge, which can effect your fighting DPS.

Still, most of them are rather well balanced now.

What happens if you walk away from anything?

You potentially lose stuff. Except here, where unless somebody else has a password, that's not a problem. Mostly, because the current system works.

Got any real reason for wanting this, other than the maybe 5-second inconvenience that you get having to put your password in again?
  25. I like it. But what would villains get as an equivalent?
