Hello everyone ive got a nubish question about flight speed.

currently i can not increase my flight speed from 58mph, i have swift slotted with 3 flight speed increase IO and i also have flight 6 slotted with both universal travel sets, yet i can not fly faster then 58 mph, i would really appreciate any advice anyone can give me thanks.

p.s all flames go somewhere else plz

It's capped. Flight is restricted to a pretty low speed for balance reasons- full 3D movement and ease of use are its strong points. Most people just 2-slot it, 3 for a travel set... by the way, only one IO set will work in a power.

but i have a couple friends who are flying at like 93 mph.

If I remeber correctly, flight speed is dependent on your level. ie.. flight at level 1 is much slower than flight at lvl 50 even with comparable slotting. this may result in a lower cap for you than your friends

If I recall correctly, if you mouse over the icons (select info?) you'll get the uncapped speed, but the attributes window will show the correct, capped speed.

Or something like that .

But FW is correct. They are not going that fast.

In this case, it sounds like he's 6 slotted, and added 3 slots of Zephyr, and 3 slots of Winter. There should be no problem with all that working (speed, end, Slow Resist, knockback protection, set bonuses) except for the aforementioned speed cap.

i don't think the flight speed slotting info has been updated since the speed of Fly and Hover was increased. With one 50 IO in both Swift and Fly plus a couple minor set bonuses my 50 Defender hits the flight speed hard cap.

Just logged on and double-checked. Showing hard-capped speed of 58.63 mph.
14.32 mph base
+39.14 mph from Fly with one 50 IO
+02.78 mph from Swift with one 50 IO
+02.72 mph from set bonuses

Edit: Total uncapped flight speed is 58.96 mph. It appears any slotting that uses more than one 50 IO is a slight bit of overkill, even without Swift.

Those numbers are nice, but don't help to update the table, unfortunately. If I remember, tomorrow I'll log on test with one of my flight-enabled characters and get the correct numbers. (Base @ 14, Base @ 50, and Base @ 50 + 3 SOs.)

Its deffinetly not the uncapped speed, I used to get 48ish mph in the atribute monitor and my mouse over claimed I had +80 something mph. I half remember it being close the the percent of flight speed fly was adding, only misslabeled as mph.

I look in the Combat Attributes, or whatever the real numbers window you get from the Power menu is called, under Movement. Your true flight speed (more or less) is listed there, and a blue number means it's hit the speed cap.

I updated the table with numbers for Flight, Super Jump, and Super Speed, using the numbers found on the Test Server. Since I16 is imminent, I didn't want to use potentially obsolete information, even though there's no notes for travel speed changes, so I didn't test these on a Live Server.

I don't have the 60mo vet reward, so I can't get the real numbers for Level 6 speed base numbers, and I don't have someone within reasonable range of 14 to level up and get Level 14 speed bases.

The ingame store is down for test server, so I can't "buy" respecs to get the numbers for Teleport. I have no more respecs left on the characters I can test these numbers with. If someone else can get the numbers missing for Teleport, and the lv6 and lv14 numbers, it'd be appreciated. Please test these numbers on the Test Server so that our real numbers source matches.

For Flight, SJ, and SS, these numbers can be found in the Combat Attributes window. Make sure you have no set bonuses or other powers that increase that attribute when you get the numbers. (For instance, go get a level 14 reading WITHOUT Swift in your build (enhances runspd and flyspd). Get a level 14 SJ reading WITHOUT Hurdle. Etc.)

SuperSpeed

BaseRunSpeed = 21 ft/s = 14.31818 mph

SuperSpeedBuff = BaseRunspeed * LevelMod * (1 + EnhancementAfterED)

SuperSpeedFinal = BaseRunSpeed + SuperSpeedBuff

Level 6: 14.31818 + (14.31818 * 2.603) = 51.6 mph

Level 14: 14.31818 + (14.31818 * 2.767) = 53.9 mph

Level 25: 14.31818 + (14.31818 * 2.992) = 57.2 mph

Level 35 14.31818 + (14.31818 * 3.197) = 60.1 mph

Level 50: 14.31818 + (14.31818 * 3.5) = 64.4 mph

Level 50 + SO: 14.31818 + (14.31818 * 3.5 * 1.333) = 81.1 mph

SuperJump

BaseJumpSpeed = 21 ft/s = 14.31818 mph

SuperJumpBuff = BaseJumpSpeed * LevelMod * (1 + EnhancementAfterED)

SuperJumpFinal = BaseJumpSpeed + SuperJumpBuff

Level 6: 14.31818 + (14.31818 * 2.05) = 43.7 mph

Level 14: 14.31818 + (14.31818 * 2.13) = 44.8 mph

Level 25: 14.31818 + (14.31818 * 2.24) = 46.4 mph

Level 35 14.31818 + (14.31818 * 2.34) = 47.8 mph

Level 50: 14.31818 + (14.31818 * 2.49) = 50 mph

Level 50 + SO: 14.31818 + (14.31818 * 2.49 * 1.333) = 61.8 mph

Fly

BaseFlySpeed = 21 ft/s = 14.31818 mph

FlyBuff = (BaseFlySpeed * .8) + (BaseFlySpeed * 1.01) + (BaseFlySpeed * -1.01) + (BaseFlyspeed * LevelMod * [1 + EnhancementAfterED])

FlyBuff = BaseFlySpeed * (.8 + 1.01 + -1.01 + {LevelMod * [1 + EnhancementAfterED]})

FlyBuff = BaseFlySpeed * (.79 + {LevelMod * [1 + EnhancementAfterED]})

FlyFinal = BaseFlySpeed + FlyBuff

Level 6: 14.31818 + [14.31818 * (.79 + {.925 * 1})] = 38.8 mph

Level 14: 14.31818 + [14.31818 * (.79 + {1.005 * 1})] = 40.0 mph

Level 25: 14.31818 + [14.31818 * (.79 + {1.115 * 1})] = 41.6 mph

Level 35: 14.31818 + [14.31818 * (.79 + {1.215 * 1})] = 43.0 mph

Level 50: 14.31818 + [14.31818 * (.79 + {1.365 *1})] = 45.2 mph

Level 50 + SO: Level 50: 14.31818 + [14.31818 * (.79 + {1.365 * 1.333})] = 51.7 mph

Teleport

TeleportBase = 300 ft range / 2 second activation = 102.27 mph

Teleport + SO = 300 * 1.2 ft / 2s = 122.73 mph

Teleport + 2SO = 300 * 1.4 ft / 2s = 143.18 mph

Teleport + 3SO = 300 * 1.56 / 2s = 159.55 mph

Thanks for those, but as seen by comparing those numbers with the real numbers I got from in game, your numbers are slightly off due to rounding. Therefore, I'm not going to incorporate them and don't recommend anyone else do it either, until/unless Z_M fixes the rounding issue.

Nope. I have characters with mix/match slotted sets in powers to get "optimum" bonuses and they work just fine.

As an example, I've slotted Fire Blast with 4 Devastations (12% Regen, 2.25% HP and 3% Damage) and 2 Thunderstrikes (2% Recovery) and I get all those bonuses.

I think he was talking about slotting 2 sets of Blessing of the Zephyr, or something like that. Or maybe just that having one set will cap the flight speed, and the second one is only giving you bonuses. Not sure on that last one, though.

It's a game balance issue. The max speed for any travel power is in the 90-some MPH range. That's because the game engine can't produce terrain fast enough to stay ahead of you if you were going any faster. If you could run 400 MPH, you would run right off the map into empty space.

Flight is the slowest travel power because it is the safest. No other travel power will let you traverse a zone much higher than your level in complete safety. SS, Super Jump, and Teleport are all faster in a straight line, but have disadvantages that come with it.

Super Speed gives no vertical motion, you're extremely fast...as long as you stay on flat ground.

Super Jump is also very fast, but you run the risk of landing in the middle of a spawn and getting killed, because you travel farther in one jump than your perception will allow you to see. Not being able to see exactly what is at your landing spot is a big disadvantage if you're level 20 and in Peregrine Island

Teleport is almost as safe as flying, but it has a very high endurance cost. Teleport is the only travel power that can run you out of endurance just crossing a zone. To make up for that it is faster than any other travel power in a straight line (also annoying to use)

Flight has NONE of those disadvantages, you can fly in a straight line above any and all obstacles, you can fly high enough to never draw unwanted agro, and you can fly all day long without ever running out of endurance.

THAT is why Fly is so slow.

Thanks for updating, I was just trying to decide how to slot Flight last night. But, and maybe it's me just being dense, I couldn't figure out what that table means. Assuming 50, one SO plus Swift would cap? Does Swift need to be slotted for flight? Or do we need a second SO? How much enhancement overall (so I could plan I sets like Winter's Gift?)

I can't get on the test server, and testing on live is expensive and may not match I-16 values, so I am asking a lot of questions, sorry. I did give it a try, spending a few hundred thousand on flight IOs and burning my freespec (admittedly, they are going to be replaced this week anyway) without finding what I wanted.

Swift, at level 50, with no enhancements, adds 1.95mph fly speed. With one level 50 fly SO, it adds 2.61mph. With two fly enh, 3.26mph. With three enh, 3.81mph.

With one SO in Fly, you will not cap fly speed with Swift. With two, you will cap fly speed even if you don't put a fly enhancement in Swift (so feel free to bump your run speed instead).

Two even-level SOs in fly is 66%, plus Swift's 35% fly speed at level 50, for a total enhancement of 101%.

Using Zombies formulas:

SS
6: 51.5884
14: 53.93658
25: 57.15884
35: 60.0934
50: 64.43181
50+1SO: 81.11965

SJ
6: 43.67045
14: 44.8159
25: 46.3909
35: 47.82272
50: 49.97045
50+1SO: 61.84265

Fly
6: 38.87386
14: 40.01931
25: 41.59431
35: 43.02613
50: 45.17386
50+1SO 51.68212

Rounding to 2 decimal places seem to match the number in the wiki other then level 50s with 1 SO. if you take the SO as .3333 rather then .333 (assuming it's meant to be a true 1/3?) you get the rounding right ( SS:81.13468, SJ:61.85335, Fly:51.68798).

Nice, the in-game store was available today so I respec'd in and tested all the rest of the information, and they match your results, Shadow State [edit: except I couldn't test the level 6 stuff, but since the rest of the numbers matched exactly, I am fine with using your results].

Additionally, I added some notes below the table to give some data points on Swift and Hurdle (common travel power supplements).

<raises eyebrow>

It can easily be fixed by rounding the numbers on the Wiki to whole numbers and stop worrying about a discrepancy of one hundredth of a mph.

Real Numbers in the game are also rounded when displayed, so, that last digit isn't 'accurate.'

Mid's also rounds to tenths, just FYI.
