Guild Wars 2 sales refutes that statement since it's sold in the same countries as CoH.

What brought this on?

I'm not sure they'd notice.

For the last three quarters, the NA region consisted of 4-5% of NC's total revenue (likewise, CoH was 2%). With Guild Wars 2 now out, NCSoft'll likely see quite a large jump for NA... at the same time they killed CoH. For comparison, the original Guild Wars (which isn't sub based, and hadn't seen a new campaign/expansion since 2007) was generating about 1/2 the revenue of CoH during that same period of time.

Mind you, that's revenue and not profit.

most likely the sheer lack of response on ncsofts part regarding this shut down (and the players media campaign)

it is frustrating but with patience im sure things will come of the dealings the devs are doing

I'm all for being angry really, but this is a bit of a flip flop on the OP's part. I am just curious if he read something or what have you.

For the record yes, I am extremely mad about the treatment and overall silence on the matter, but in so far as saving the game, I still think patience and holding back the pitchforks is the best idea for now.

True but by the time GW revenue dropped below ours, GW had cumulatively earned $30 million more than us, which they burned through half of from then till now so cumulatively they are still up $15 million but now have a new game that's sold 2 million copies so far.

Whatever, Kitsune Knight.

Mods, Zwillinger, whoever's watching tonight, please just nuke my thread. All it seems to be doing is entertaining people who find it mildly amusing how upset I am over all of this. Tomorrow I'm sure I'll have my ordinary optimism back.

Glad someone noticed something was different.

And, it was the article that Golden Girl posted today. Like people are saying elsewhere, we really shouldn't be taking it as any kind of new information. But, while reading it, I just got to thinking about how NCSoft has had no qualms with doing really shady business in the past; and I started to wonder how tightly they've gagged Paragon's former staff as far as the content of these "talks" go--or if maybe the content of the talks have nothing to do with Paragon's continued existence. My gut tells me we're being manipulated into sitting more patiently than we ought to, while the clock ticks. I just don't trust that these people have our best interests in mind.

Here's the thing: while NCSoft's silence is infuriating, unjust, and just poor business management, there is another group of people whose silence we are not considering: The devs.

We know that the Devs have heard us. They have yet to disappear off of the map, which means they have most likely seen our frustration as well. But they have given us no information other than to notify us that Paragon management was in discussions (and only discussions) with NCSoft and investors. [source]

Given the relationship between us (the community) and the Devs/Community team, I firmly believe they would have told us by now if they, too, had received nothing but silence from NCSoft. Because they would be able to; no response means no NDA about discussions. While they would not badmouth NCSoft, they would have the decency to tell us that a wall had been hit, and give us the opportunity to focus our energies towards solutions that did not involve NCSoft (few as they may be).

So let's give our Dev team a little credit: As many of us forum-frequenters know, the quieter the Devs and Community team are, the harder they tend to be working.

You know what? You're right.

Still hoping the mods will nuke this thread for me--I don't think it's helping, which means I wasn't helping by creating it.

But if you see this, Winterminal--thanks. Exactly the swift kick in perspective that I needed.

Actualy i do also find it odd they have not responded on this....

Its not really like them...

I mean...when they discontinued auto Assault they gave me tons of email and support stuff....and offered me ways to transfer to some other game..

same with tabula rasa....

and when i quit AION....sheesh....still got stuff to come back....

but this one....on this game that has been around longer....not even a peep out of them....

I am actualy unsure what to make of this.....i am wondering what NDA they are being held by to not make any comments on this....

They even stopped sending me AION email that i would get like every 2 weeks....its like the silence has fallen.

I'll admit, they made a little more off of me.

Why? Two words: Arena Net.

They're a group of Developers that have poured their heart and soul into making an outstanding game, a game that's quickly showing itself to be something special. The community is small, but it's growing, and there are more than a few people that simply love the game. Their only sin is that they, like the people at Paragon Studios, worked with/for NC Soft.

I can hardly praise our devs, while condemning others for doing the same things.

I can assure you that the people running GW2 are worried now. Success may not be enough to keep them employed, being outstanding may still find them out the door with no warning. I don't want to stand (sit) here and say we should leave them to crash and burn with us. If NC Soft had somehow decided that killing GW2 was the move to make, we wouldn't have wanted that to cause players to attempt to doom CoH as revenge against NC Soft. So, I'll give Arena Net my support, even if that means that NC Soft gets a bit of it.

Anyone that signs on with NC Soft after this, though, can go hang. They'll know the risks, it's their call to take them.

I think you need to reword this sentence, as no response actually does mean that there's an NDA about discussions. NDA stands for "Non-Disclosure Agreement."

You misunderstood methinks. That should read as "If the devs receive no response from NCSoft, then they are under no NDA because no discussions would be taking place."

And Cap, you're welcome. That perspective is the only thing that keeps me from flying off the handle.

So thanks for your precious little nuggets of reality, folks. Really, thanks. I'm sure you're really helping the world to be a better place, sprinkling these little glittering turds of wisdom everywhere, reminding us what a success story NCSoft will continue to be despite sacrificing our entire community and history on its quarterly altar.

But you know what?

True but that's not to say that they would talk about it anyway. In general it's good policy not to talk smack about a former employer in public even if there's no legal restriction on doing so. It's the sort of thing that can make other employers decide not to hire you since they know that you may well decide to talk smack about them in the future.

Just a bit of advice, dude. Joining the ranks of Lulipop and Kitsune Knight is not exactly what you ought to be striving for right now.

The rest of us have our sights set just a bit higher.
