Which Upcoming MMO's Are You Considering?

As this thread has clearly spelt out, there's no MMO where anyone is really feeling at home. I feel the same - I have a CO Account, a Lifetime STO account and a couple of others that get occasional play but nothing concrete.

So, what is coming up on the gaming horizon that you're hopeful for? For my money (all links are to MMORPG.com so you can get some background for each)...

-

DUST 514 - The FPS partner to EVE Online, I'm intrigued by this PS3 only title and can see myself dropping in and out of this one too, if not actually making a home there.

Neverwinter - Got hands-on with this one at PAX East this year and despite playing a melee class which I almost never do I actually was entertained when doing so. Will be keeping an eye on this one!

Otherland - I adore the setting from the books by Tad Williams and always though this should be an MMO. Glad to see it's being made and showing some promise. If they make good on things, then I can see myself settling in for a time.

PlanetSide 2 - I'm currently beta testing this and actually having a blast with it. Still only have one out of three continents but each update is making it feel more and more of a fully fleshed MMO. If you like PvP games you should certainly check it out.

WildStar - Yes, it's an NCsoft property which may have some of you instantly disregard it, but this is the one I'm looking forward to most. I've been following it for years and from the interaction with the dev team and info out there it says to me this will likely be my new home. Which I will build ingame. With "defensive" cannons.

-

So, what MMO properties are you looking at that aren't out yet that I or others might be interest in?

Otherland is looking pretty awesome. A cyberpunk MMO!? I've been dreaming of this since I first saw GitS. I'll check out Dust 514 if I ever get another PS3. And while PSO2 is technically out (in Japan), I can't wait to try it when it releases in NA. Finally, I'm with the ton of folks waiting for FFXIV: A Realm Reborn to get here.

Otherland? Guess I'll have to snag that series - it's been on my list for a while.

Doom.

Yep.

This is really doom.

None.. Its CoH or bust for me..

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

I'm moving to Champions after COH is gone, but I will also probably be trying out the Game of Thrones MMO when it launches.

omg! How come I never heard of Otherland?! That game looks awesome! It's beautiful and just the kind of game I like!

None.

Show me an MMO where I can make a character that looks like anything I want without having to farm for cool-looking loot for weeks.

Where I can play as a plumber hitting things with a pipe while holding a manhole cover OR as a sorcerer who breathes fire OR as a space station captain shooting a ray gun, and yet they all FIT regardless of what crazy origin.

Where if I think "I wish there was a mission where I did this cool thing I thought of" and all I have to do is go to a mission creator terminal and make it.

Where I can spend an afternoon fighting aliens on top of their crashed saucer, the next preventing a city from sinking into the spirit world, and the following one fighting ancient romans.

Where I can lose hours building and decorating a base for my characters to hang out while planning what to do next.

Where teaming is not required, but it's so easy that you do it anyway, because you don't have to coordinate sharing missions or checking that everybody is at the same "step" in a quest chain.

Show me that, then maybe I'll consider it.

Honestly, probably Champions, for the most part. A lot of the same general feeling seems to exist in that game- It's familiar as hell, which I like. Even if I didn't know that it was made by former COH Dev's, I would still look at that game and feel like it was a very comfortable transition after COH is gone.

On this note, is there any plan for CoH players to keep with any particular server? It'd be fun to know.

Are they releasing new servers with the FF14 relaunch?

I sort of want to try the game again, but last I looked into it most everyone had level 50 in all jobs, and level 50 in all crafting professions.. Kind of killed the fun for me.

1) I was considering Red Eagle Game's Wheel of Time MMO that is in the works, but I just found out they signed with EA as their publisher.... suppose it could be worse, they could have gone to NCSoft.....

2) I'll probably give Pandaland a whirl, but while I've never really minded WoW as a game, I have found the community there to be generally abrasive (read as: causing me to lose all faith in humanity), outside of a few minor exceptions.

3) I'm also eyeballing The Elder Scrolls Online as a possibility.

I lost all the cool names/concept characters I had in DCUO in the server merge a while back. Still miffed about that so I'm stand-offish.

I have a copy of GW2 I purchased prior to this fiasco, but while ArenaNet != NCSoft, I'm still wary to support anything they have any amount of control over.

If all else fails, there is always the steadfast LotRO. I haven't checked out the recent updates, so there should be new stuff to explore.

I planned on starting a new person in any case, just because it only feels right. A Realm Reborn, a new person. I haven't even touched the game while waiting for things to go through.

This. And no, CO does not compare. The only thing CoH and CO seem to share is a well developed costume creator. Beyond that, they are totally different.

I've already got several on my plate right now, but DUST looks interesting.

Right now, I'm on Balmung, which is the unofficial RP server, and will probably remain that way. If any CoH players are on balmung, I'd be happy to team up sometimes.

They said something about releasing a few servers that only new players could join. I'm sure some of the more established servers will have new players as well. I may create a new character myself since the leveling experience is supposed to be different. Haven't really made any real progress anyways.

Got it. Actually, I think I have someone on that server right now, though said person would still be locked. Only triggered enough so that I was part of the legacy thing.

Edit: Nope, I got rid of all my random people to clear slots to make new people.

Edit 2: Going to have to try and find a way to figure out who was part of the CoH community when Realm Reborn comes around.

I've got a few on my "want to play but won't really because I don't have time" radar. Neverwinter definitely sounds interesting. SWOTR is going free to play, and I already signed up to the free infinite trial (to level 15), but that was just before I found out CoH was closing, so I will dedicate my limited gaming time to CoH for now. I put a bit of money on the Shadowrun Online Kickstarter, and will be looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

I'm hoping The Secret World will live long enough to become a new home for me, but it's only two months old so it's way too early to tell. That game has received an uncanny amount of, largely unjust, negative attention. Which makes me sad.

I am already playing Rift now, having had a long and 3 account career with CoH since '05. Tried WoW, GW, Aion, CO and EvE at times. My sub to CoH had been active over 7 years in total between my EU and US accounts to.

So with Rift:Storm Legion on the horizon and Trion Worlds fully commited to it, other mmo projects looking interesting...but ultimately going down, like TSW which looked great...but is failing already, GW2 looking overhyped and heading for the long goodnight (imho) and pandas with dumbed down skills not been my thing, I decided that the felxibility of Rift would be my thing.

So, after building 5 or 6 goreat solo bases accross many servers, 26 level 50s and over 250 alts, it's time to hang up my cape, crank up my Ascendants and step fully bacnk into talara for much fun and a world about to explode into action I guess.

For games not released yet: Torchlight 2

For games already out: Eve Online or Champions Online

I suppose there is a yet another angle which is leave the sinking ship known as MMOs.
