Savior spelled = SOE?
I'll believe it when I see it. Although I hope for some sort of deus ex machina, I'm resigned for the worst.
I'm prepared for the worst as well, but I'm sure most of the community can't bear to just sit and watch City of Heroes die. We're all grasping at a lot of different pipe dreams, but if nothing else it will help us cope. We can feel like we gave it our best shot. It may die anyway, but we will not sit idle and watch it fade away.

... but doesn't Sony already have a super hero MMO?
Then again, I'd be totes down with City of DC Heroes.
They went from this: hardly anyone can play a Jedi and those that make it never knew exactly how (most likely required a random roll to keep total numbers low); to this: everyone is a Jedi. Both horrible systems, but, the first system, in absence of Jedis, had a very deep skills, crafting, and role-playing environment which got trampled in the transition. And since they upset the role-playing base for a new system that wasn't any better... pandemonium. Subs dropped dramatically and the game closed down.
The most perfect example of not listening to the players you can find. |
Doom.
Yep.
This is really doom.
Also, with EQ 1 and 2 boith going, and SWG shut down only becasue LucasArts decided not to renew the license to let the Tortanic sail the SW MMO sea by itself, there might even be the possibility of greater security in the SOE stable than the NCSoft one.
Plus, the Station Pass raises some interesting revenue and player increase possibilities.

To be fair, SWG didn't close down due to lack of subs or SOE losing interest. It was shut down because LucasArts choose to give the Star Wars license to EA/BioWare and not allow SOE to renew theirs'.
While, yes, the NGE and CU did cause a massive player exodus, the game was still going good until December 15th of last year.
If it ended up that nobody but SOE made a serious offer, I'd rather they got it than nobody. But I too still remember SWG... I try REALLY hard to remember the good times from that.

Overall, Everquest 2 is one of my other favorite MMORPGs that I've been playing for 7 1/2 years since launch.
And when MS dropped Vanguard, SOE actually made some good improvements to it. And when it wasn't doing as well as they'd hoped, they still didn't cancel it but rather squashed it down onto two servers and have kept it going to this day. In fact it recently transitioned to F2P and is seeing a bit of a resurgence.
I would be excited to learn that SOE was taking over CoH to publish it. I imagine they would pull together as many from the Paragon crew as they could. And this would be VERY smart for SOE, because then they would have the superhero MMO market all tied up! They'd have DCUO for the console peeps (doesn't do too well on PC from what I hear) and they would of course have CoH for the PC players!
Wow, that is the best news I have heard about this whole debacle. NC sucks anyway. If this turned into a last-minute save, it would be the best thing ever to happen to Paragon Studios.
Now let's hope the friggen bastiges NCSoft/Nexon, the....oh, I will go into a rage if I continue describing them....but let's freaking hope they sell it to SOE!
Hey NCSoft, you're desperate for cash with all of your huge losses from Aion! Take the offer! Sell! Sell! Sell!
I would play regardless of who bought it and if it meant starting over. I could do that. I would do that. I promise I'd even buy four subs (that's how many I have now for me, my husband, my mother, and my brother) and drop money into any online store the first day. I'd already resubbed three of those accounts for a year in July (the other being paid incrementally), money which I should get back, and am more than ready to drop on anyone who'll extend this olive branch.

Governments have fallen to the power of social media. Gaming companies can too.
Hopes aside... This game absolutely deserves to continue as does Paragon Studios.
If it can happen, by the well (haha, sorry), it should happen.
As for it being SOE...
Yeah, I would likely not take part. However, I would gladly see CoH saved and most everyone partake in it without me than see it go as it is currently planned to be. That would make me extremely happy. Of course, I'd rather a publisher that I will give my money to, but if it is SOE, so be it.
Companies should be interested in picking the game and, especially, this team up.
The real question will likely be NCSoft's willingness to do such business.
and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan
This does make the rumored offer a little weird - however, DCUO is pretty much a console game with a PC port as an after thought - they could be looking at having 2 separate superhero games targeted at 2 different markets, and 2 differnt play styles - one a console based acton focus beat-'em-up, the other a "classic" PC MMO.
Also, with EQ 1 and 2 boith going, and SWG shut down only becasue LucasArts decided not to renew the license to let the Tortanic sail the SW MMO sea by itself, there might even be the possibility of greater security in the SOE stable than the NCSoft one. What happened at SWG that has everyone so turned against Sony, anyway?

And combat was not the only thing with equal footing in the game. Full craftsman or entertainers could have their very own worth and game sessions without a single bit of combat, if they wished)... plus you could combine combat and noncombat professions and very successfully dip in all fields...
So, 33 professions (approx. 3.5 professions on one character)... plus you could drop skills and learn others any time back and forth as much as you wished/changed your mind...
And they announced, two weeks ahead of time, directly after another paid expansion for the game... That it'd be chopped down into just 9 simple professions (really classes) with zero options of different skills within those classes (minor options were added later on, but nothing major).
Whole professions were removed. Including a profession that had a bunch of new features added with the new paid for expansion!
I just like spelling out some of the numbers so there's no confusion.
This was not some overreaction of "They changed the game and RUINED it!"... This was not simply ED.
They took away chess and made it only checkers.
Anyway... regardless of my own boycott of them, they may not be all bad these days...

Yeah, seriously AC (hi, btw)... it's a long painful story, but the previous summaries are pretty good. Just to give a little bit more info... There were around 33 different professions (each with 17 skill boxes made of 4 branches and one mastery skill box... some novice professions and some branches - and some combinations of those with others - led to more elite professions... and you could combine those professions into a great assortment of things [and it wasn't really that unbalanced considering!]).

A part of me would rather see CoH die than have its memory mangled. Death with dignity and all that.
Doom.
Yep.
This is really doom.
Anyone buying it is better then it going away forever. Hope is SOE gets it that doesn't happen anyway.

The 3-way superhero MMO publisher fight would be down to a straight 1v1, with Perfect World suddenly and massivlely outgunned by SOE.

They have three fantasy MMOs, and another two in development. SOE doesn't mind competing with itself.

I hope their offer is indeed fair, and that Nexon pushes NCSoft to sell if they don't want to, or that NCSoft is so hard up for cash (after that most recent report of all their new losses) that they sell.
*crosses fingers*
To be honest SOE saving this game would more than square any prior misdeeds IMO.
