It's just as well that SOE didn't buy CoH. I refuse to give SOE money for anything.

If Mishii does have some kind of insider information, it's quite logical to assume that for legal reasons, she isn't allowed to say any more than she has. NDA's and things like that. Especially if the companies involved don't want one another to know that they're in the bidding.

But I agree with the pessimists. Assume there is no professional savior lurking in the shadows, and focus on independent efforts to save the City.

dang guys don't derail this thread to let's-attack-mishii come on. if she's for real and we do bad to her it's going to be real bad for us

yes, you guys may be frustrated at her but like. come on. be polite, we don't want any accidents to happen. calm down.

(i really doubt shes being cryptic btw, it seems to me to be language barrier thing) (i am chinese but I thought mishii was korean. not sure)

also let's get back on subject. where's the tweet that confirmed this? i wanted a double confirmation : (

Nobody seriously working to try and save the game is going to completely stop and assume it's saved just because Mishii said that NCSoft are looking at other options. She didn't say anything was definite, just added some much appreciated (by me at least) positivity.

Look at it this way, she either is an insider and needs to be cryptic because she really isn't allowed to say any more and is already sticking her neck out. Or she just enjoys making up statements here for whatever reason. If she isn't accurate then her posts aren't hurting any more than several other people making inaccurate assumptions, nobody should stop work because of it and if it makes anyone feel more positive about things I don't think that's so bad.

On the other hand if she really is an insider giving us all the information that she can, then isn't it a Really Bad Idea to alienate a friend 'on the inside' by calling her names?

So Sony is a no go, and from something that Babs said in a forum post it's not looking likely that Cryptic/PW is looking to pick the game up either.

Godspeed with your efforts, Tony! We're all pulling for your success!

That's exactly how I feel about it, too. Not seeing my characters again is -almost- the worst part of this mess.

I do find it kind of amusing that the CEO of a company that has nothing to do with CoX is capable of giving an upfront and honest answer, unlike anyone at NCSoft.

In a way, though, that's a good sign. He could give an answer because he already knew what it was. NCSoft probably isn't saying a word because they don't know what to say yet. It's also encouraging that in their reasons for ditching CoH, they didn't use any phrases that might denigrate the game or its sales, like "due to declining revenue"; that suggests they don't want to poison any potential buyers against the game.

I find it amusing too. Then again, it might be a problem with being overseas and whatnot.

while it is true NcSoft has never before sold a game, they have traditionally preferred to close down a MMO

However,
-CoX is to my knowledge will be the biggest MMO to be shotting down, and not entirelly because its a money pit either
-NcSoft never before had a quarter in the red, so they may be more inclined to sell off an asset, if a reasonable offer was made.
-Whatever criticisms SOE may have, I should mention EQ Classic and Vanguard is running over there

Assuming there was a reasonable offer for CoX, the biggest arguements against selling CoX may actually be moot.
-the entire creating your competition thing may be moot, NcSoft seems to be refocusing in Asia, CoX's base is primarily in the US
-I assume if they sold the game, so would the rights to whatever sequals would go with it(CoX 2)
, but then again if their refocusing in Asia, it won't matter

For one, I don't think NCSoft's CEOs even speak English.

For seconds, I bet they are executives and business types. John Smedley is a long time D&D player who co-created EverQuest and Verant Interactive, he was a game developer in that game and has been both, a game developer and a gamer first.

I actually think the only reason EverQuest is still running is because he cant bring himself to shut it down.

It's a shame there is no millionaire developers in Paragon that was working on the team just for fun. Everyone likely knows what happens, but they cant say a word because they wont get their severance package if they open their mouths. And they will be sued to hell if they dare open their mouth after signing the NDA.
