If you help us save the game or get the word out to the Comic Book community to support us I think you'd get more then some Christmas cards!

writer Mercedes Lackey has mentioned the closing of CoH on her facebook.

I know that producter Robert Hewitt Wolfe (wrote for Star Trek franchise, and was showrunner for Andromeda, syfy's Dresden Files adaptation, and others) was a CoH player.

She played on Pinnacle.

I've heard a rumour that international man of mystery and part time supermodel / professor of archaeology, Troy Hickman play this game.

I'm shy.

But I did love Common Grounds. I still read through my old copies, now that I've finally recovered them from a friend I lent them to.

I reached out over the last few days through twitters and e-mails contacting any celebrites I was aware of playing City of heroes, had spoken about it, or were known MMO fans. I haven't heard anything back of course but hopefully if we all pitch in they may at least mention us.

So far I have contacted
Felicia Day
Kevin Smith
James Rofle/AVGN creator and Star
joaquin phoenix *seen playing in a studio*
Rick Astley .. :3
I heard natalie Portman played as well but I couldn't find any real "direct" way for fans to interact with her.

if anyone else knows of some MMO'ing celebs tweet them, contact their offical fansites or facebook.

Hell use YOUR facebook and Twitter to get the word out.

We need Leroy Jenkins...

Seriously though, this is not a bad idea. People actually listen to celebs. Troy, Mercedes and Butcher have the book crowd. Kevin has the comic/movie crowd. Sheldon would be over the top.

I've posted on PVP (Scott Kurtz) facebook page. He did the original release's little mini-comic book (which I still have) and had played the game for a time. I doubt that he's been there for a while, but I know him and a couple other Webcomic authors had been fans.

I'd just be happy if Jay (of Jay and Silent Bob fame) went on a NC Soft tirade.

Yeah. But we could never show something like Jay's rant in a family friendly game!

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Two things:

1) We sent a heartfelt letter to a company no one thought to approach and if they bite, especialy since I have connections there, it will be a moment unlike any you have ever seen.

2) Thank you for the "So Long and Thanks for the Ponies" thread in the Hero Culture forums. It is priceless and one is now part of my desktop backdrop. (No, I'm not Tara *smirk*)

over the top...but ultimately very effective. Its a popular show and the less than judicious treatment of we the gamers would make for a good story line.

<Chris Farley voice> Remember....remember when everyone was fightin' and Sheldon kept going to his happy place...remember that?</Chris Farley>
I can totally see him spazzing out royally. Those veins in his neck would practiacally explode!

I bet they could do a good episode about it... but considering the turn around? It'd probably be closer to a year before anyone saw it. Plus, I would wonder if people just assumed it was a game the creators made up... Although, if things are still in the air by then, it'd probably be very effective.

She plays on a very regular basis, actually. So does her husband (illustrator Larry Dixon). They both definitely know about the various efforts to save the game.

I know it's a 'bad game', but if you're looking for Celebs, quite a few of them play WoW. Mila Kunis, for one, plays an Alliance character. I know it's not CoH, but if you want to get the media in on this, crossing 'territory lines' may not be a bad idea.

After all, CoH is to us, what WoW is to their loyal fanbase.

Imagine the nerdrage if WoW was suddenly shut down, LOL. I'm pretty sure I'd be consoling my best friend for weeks over him losing his top level, pimped out in the best gear mage.

I've sent a Twitter message to him, but still... the MOST IMPORTANT person that needs to hear our plea is Stan Lee. I'm serious. He's got his own production studios and mentioned in an interview that online superheroes was something that would become the new standard.

We need Stan Lee to back us!

pohsyb: so of all people you must be most excited about the veats

I considered contacting Stan Lee about this. he's the AllFather of the Comic Book Industry. While he may be to old to truley grasp what our little part of the world is if we can get HIm to help us I can think of no man better.

We should also start contacting our local Comic Book Shops, seeing what they can do to help get the word out for us.

HOLY CRAP WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS!!!?

Great Idea!! I'll get to work on the comic shops around my area, and I'll send Mr. Lee an email as well.

I'd suggest taking an angle that emphasizes just how much this game is a comic book game, and that without his work and the work of others like him, it wouldn't even have existed in the first place.
It was created by comic book fans, run by comic book fans, and played by comic books fans - and now a multinational corporation is going to shut it down because it no longer fits in with its business plan.
