My main insists ICly that the urban planners and architects that drew up Paragon City were a bunch of absinthe fiends.

It's a city designed by Bloody Stupid Johnson

So, there aren't actually any arenas, just a re-purposed salad bowl set?

Well, to remotely drift back on topic....

The building can't be entered and there's no story arcs or missions that go into it. On Beta this morning, The Net and Doc Aeon said there were apparently no plans to add interiors to it, and it's a direct homage to Smoke and Mirrors.

But wouldn't this building be the perfect place to have a new social space that isn't Pocket D? And it's meant to be a Community Center. I'll be writing up my support for the idea, and I'm curious to see what others think.

In case you're not joking, I believe it's Common Grounds.

Oh that comic arc was awesome and I think it may have been at the heart of my addiction to this game.

Yeah. They make them look plastic. They're imported fake trees from Praetoria, aka The Plastic City. I hate those trees. Atlas Park looks so fake with them all over the place.

DA's trees are better, because they retextured them. They didn't retexture anything for Atlas.

Try it on low graphics settings, where the details don't fill in til you're closer. Bunch of neon green sculptures all over Atlas that poof into leafy things

Long ago and far away, prior to the Great Migration to these forums, there was agitation from the fans to have the Cyrus Thompson Community Center put in the game. Ultimately, Cyrus' statue made it ingame to the great pleasure of those fans who had agitated. Around that time, as I recall, I noted that in the comic, there was a business across the street from the Center called "Mon Grounds," whatever THAT was, and wondered with a wink if it, too, would be added to the game.

Troy Hickman responded and asserted that "Mon Grounds" was a Jamaican coffeeshop. Yes, we all realized it was an "I see what you did there" in the comic for Common Grounds, but the notion that what was presented was actually the full name of the business and that Mon Grounds was a Jamaican coffeeshop became a running gag itself, to wit:

You're dead to me.
So there you go.

When Chase_Arcanum uses the gag, then the gag has a tremendous groundswell of popular support. When Troy Hickman uses the gag, it has become Canon.

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

Steel Canyon needs big glass and steel walkways looming overhead, running between the buildings and around them like arteries. Neon signs and monolithic LCD displays beaming hot, delicious advertising and brand appeal up the towering skyscrapers. A sandwich, the lower slice of bread darkened and beset by clumps of mould and decay growing in the darkness, out of sight of law and order, a middle section full of bright lights showing the products and services you want to own and welcoming doorways beckoning in shoppers to spend their hard earned dollars, topped by an almost ethereal layer of bread where the rich dine and sup expensive coffee, and return to their penthouse suites with the occasional descent down to 'nature', parks in the surrounding area of the canyon which lack the chaos of nature for an almost plastic dream of strictly ordered and committee approved 'scenic beauty'.

Sky Raiders make their mark early, swooping low to break into high tech facilities lower areas or soaring high to plague the lockboxes and safes of the city-living wealthy. In the dark below the elemental powers of the Outcasts crackled, unbridled and raw.

Or something like that.

Positron should also delegate his research now that he's leading the Phalanx, and found Keyes Labs/Keyes Tech/Keyes Research as a science and tech themed mission hub in Steel Canyon, as a kind of balance to the more magic/natural themed mission hub we've already got at the university/Midnighter Club.
A white concrete, steel and glass building in a landscaped area would by good, with a similar function to the AE buildings, allowing players to go inside but still see the rest of the zone through the windows.

I don't even know what I was trying to say there "Protective paint," I think, but Lord knows why it came out like that.

So...I'll ask...

He was a retired hero in one of the old City of Heroes comic issues that was made into an Ouroboros storyarc. They had a memorial erected for him at the end of the comic arc and Manticore gave a speech.

The Top Cow comics, issues 4-6 was a run called "Smoke and Mirrors" by Troy Hickman. It's widely considered to be the best of the TC storylines, and this is now the third time it's being honored in-game.

First was Twilight Son's arc being pretty much the player's chance to run through said arc heroside, then they added the statue of Cyrus Thompson outside the Kings Row tram, and now they've added the community center raised in his memory at the end of the comic.

You can download all the comics as PDFs here.
