Yes, they botched Staff Fighting so badly that over half the brutes & scrappers I've teamed with this past month have been Staff.

The shareholders would be throwing Paragon a block party if only all powersets could fail as badly as Staff.

Maybe I'm misremembering.
They've claimed that would be our response if they were to release items too quickly.

Yea ... I really need to stop caveating things when I know I'm right. Sorry, that actually has been people's response in the past when they've released too many 'good' things too quickly.

To those disappointed: not all the releases can be winners. Sometimes, it's going to be something that makes you smile in amusement (or post in irritation, if you are in a less charitable mood). I seriously doubt that it damages anyone's bottom line that the headline item this week is Unbounded Hop or some such.

I further submit that forumites ought to be willing to wait a bit longer for the next powerset release; the potential market for those things is "all possible players," not just people who follow the fora and betas closely and thus develop their own subconscious timetable of when things ought to be on sale.

Finally, I submit that this is a great and worthwhile thread due to (1) Deadpool's scooter and (2) Electric Knight's story about the rhino. We need more rhino stories around here, in my opinion.

Maybe if they released Staff correctly then over all of them would have been Staff Fighting.

I would guess two reasons why no new set is being released just before a double xp weekend.

1) Players that use the double xp in place of buying/using xp boosters for the new character(s) they make.

2) Unfairness for people wanting that set to be Nature's Affinity instead of Bio Armor or vice versa.

I rarely agree with Paragon's marketing, but I believe they do have the right idea here.

Personally, I've never been "disappointed" or "angry" or ever in a position where I wasn't happy because there was too much stuff in a game I like to play. I could imagine there being some discontent among the playerbase if they were to release everything that they possibly could (meaning, it's on live servers, waiting to be purchased/unlocked) all at once, and then for months at a time there was nothing to speak of at all. But to the best of my recollection, that really hasn't happened, or if it did, your memory of those complainers was far more vivid than mine.

And yes, you should work on that.

I'm not sure new powersets directly before a double xp weekend is a good idea at all.
Oh sure, there are some players that would love it and most would want it...
But that's somewhat like a bunch of children deciding that a giant bag full of free candy, for each of them in the morning, is a great idea.
When, the truth of it is, the majority of those kids will be in head-achy sugar comas by mid afternoon and not plunking quarters into the arcade...

They never release two power set in one month, they kind of need to split them apart.

Yeah, they can do damage. But what I'll always have in mind with Rhinos?

There's one in the Homosassa, FL preserve. (Go for the manatees, stay to visit everything else - otters, eagles, gators...)

They make it *very* clear to be aware of the "spray area" behind the rhino. The very extensive spray area.... we gave it extra room to be sure.

I will back him on the complainers. towards the beginning of freedom there were a few loud complainers that paragon was being greedy releasing stuff faster than vip stipends could cover just to force us to spend cash. It wasn't a huge contingent, but as in many issues where people have a stake, they posted a lot and derailed several threads.

Eesh! Maybe that was what the driver was upset about, instead of the damage, lol.

Since this thread is about rhinos - here's a not very good image of a character of mine:

A number of decades ago, he was a tough thug, who worked his way through crime and became a small time crimeboss of his own, but didn't like getting older and weaker and being out-muscled by some punk he had hired. So, he threw all his money into some experiments to make him stronger than ever... It worked with some unexpected mutations.
Unfortunately, his muscles became so strong and large that his heart simply can't handle the strain... so, he's had to go into the debt of a mad villain scientist that has provided him with a powered suit to help him support his immense frame and keep his heart going.

i remember one in particular would not stop going on and on about how evil it was for Paragon Studios to release more content than his stipend could cover and how it proved VIPs/subscribers were getting less than ever for their money. He refused to acknowledge basic logic or math and apparently ragequit over PS releasing too much stuff. Well, at least i don't recall any posts since his last tantrum at least six months ago.

Yeah...
Was that the same dingleberry that complained that he couldn't afford to buy stuff because he only made 70k a year, and that anyone on disability was a drug addict?

In addition to smoothing out revenue, this effect tends to allow VIP subscribers earning 400 Paragon Points per month to not spend out-of-pocket cash on the new sets. Unless they've been buying stuff other than power sets, they'll likely have the 800 points necessary to buy a new set when it comes out.

( Since I'm tier 8 VIP, I get 550 points/month, meaning I can get an occasional luxury in addition to the new power sets. )

So I see it basically win/win for both Paragon Studios and VIP players.

The sale on Heroes & Villains this week (the first such sale so far, iirc, other than the time a little while ago when they discounted only the 1-pack, so that they simply cost as much individually as they did in a 24-pack...) makes me suspect we'll see Rogues & Vigilantes next week, but it's pretty far from an official confirmation.
