I know... I was told flat-out by Brian "Crosscheck" Clayton at the last HeroCon (not the Player Summits, mind you... HeroCon) that the GMs were no longer being trained on troubleshooting or fixing demorecord bugs. In other words, I'm SOL if stuff breaks in it.

Fun recent bugs include:
Four legged rigs not playing back properly (they look like animated kanji or origami)
Auras removing clothing
Costume codes breaking demofiles
Certain weapons not playing back properly
The camera swinging wildly around for no reason

Makes filming in-game a PITA. *sighs*

Frozen Aura from Ice Manipulation.

Possibly the wost T9 secondary blaster power--maybe even the worst in the game.

It's a Mag 2 sleep that does no damage. There's really almost no reason to take this power except as maybe a mule for an IO set.

Almost any change to it would make it better! Replace it with ice control's Frost Bite so there's some synergy with Chillblain. Increase the sleep to Mag 3 or Mag 4 so that it's more reliable. Have it do moderate damage like its Tanker companion power so to add another AoE attack.

It's terrible. It definitely needs to be fixed.

Thanks for the note, Arbiter Hawk, but I fear that most people's impressions of Praetorian difficulty are already set, and have probably discouraged them from making and running any more characters through the gauntlet to see the improvements you describe.

On the thread topic, I'd like to see AE given some attention, but I doubt it will happen - everyone seems to have moved on, even the farmers(!). It's also a big job.

Fixing ragdolling is probably quicker and simpler.

Replace Debt Reduction Property on IOs
Id LOVE to have a tail and arm slider! To be more beast like instead of like a human animal hybrid
And maybe a scale for wings? To make them slliiiiiightly bigger than at the max height that would be awesome.

Fully acknowledging the technical issues, I think this is one of Paragon's more short-sighted errors. It may even be the short sighted development error.

Costume Powers and non-Hide Stealth Toggles no longer locking each other out.

Fixing up Dark Armor for Stalkers would be cool too, but I don't really have a stake in that.

Why? I can probably count on one hand (MAYBE both hands) the number of people who even use the thing, and it's not like I'm doing anything USEFUL with it, like finding math errors or discovering powers imbalances or anything. I just make videos with it.

Really quick wish list

Energy Melee: Make either Total Focus or Energy Transfer into Sweeping Cross from Street Justice when it comes to implementation. Play with the numbers to make it fit the set.

Poison: Make the splashes do the full effect but make it unstackable and adjust as needed. Adjust Noxious Gas and make it a toggle for Masterminds - or give it Venomous Gas.

Sonic Resonance - adjust Liquefy's recharge to be up every other spawn on standard slotting. Have Sonic Cage become a toggle.

Trick Arrow - Trickshooter's Thread here.

Force Field - have Force Bolt work like Jolting Chain. Have Detention Field become a toggle. Force Bubble - not sure, seems like something could be done with this to make it more desirable - seems like it is just an aggro magnet for the most part.

Storm Control - raise Gale's accuracy a bit.

Thermal Radiation - lower Melt Armor's recharge a little.

Dark Blast - Make Umbral Torrent do knockdown. Raise Dark Pit's accuracy to 1.00.

Assault Rifle - Widen Full Auto and make it less deep.

Beam Rifle - set plays kinda slow for being single-target focused. Not sure on this one.

Electrical Blast - Raise Short Circuit's damage.

Radiation Blast - Electron Haze animates too slow and the random kb seems out of place - could be eliminated or turned into a higher chance for kb, or altered to kd.

Traps/Devices - Time Bomb... ugh - it's not designed to be used in a way that this game plays at all. It's all been said before. I think Hawk was looking at this one recently.

Ice Control - the set is a mess. Eliminate the knockback debuff from Frostbite and Chillblain. Arctic Air is considered skippable without the Contagious proc by some. Up the chance for kd on Ice Slick a small amount.

Darkness Control - could be just me, but it seems I eat alpha strikes with this set more than any other control set, perhaps due to a delay for the effect from Fearsome Stare kicking in or something - it was briefly discussed on the forums awhile back.

Mercenaries - Serum is a freaking joke - the recharge is insane and is only for one pet. The entire set seems to do the least damage of all other primaries, but it would be tough to balance right. A straight damage buff might work just fine in this case. See the MM forums for this set.

Necromancy - Zombie Horde pets die way too easily, other than that, it isn't too bad.

Ninjas - Would a heal be out of the question?

Beast Mastery - maybe speed up recharges or give them an additional attack or soft control (stun/fear)

Regeneration - sigh, good old Regen. I think turning IH into a toggle again wouldn't be a bad idea. Brutes and (eventually) Tankers have a hard time taking aggro with this set compared to others for teams. You get hit for (nearly) full damage and take all debuffs constantly and it's difficult to keep up for the average Joe.

Dark Armor - still not convinced Dark Regen needs to take such a massive amount of endurance, but the forum exploded in rage at the idea of touching this set at all. Cloak of Fear's accuracy is a pain and makes no sense to me.

Battle Axe - up Whirling Axe's damage just a little bit.

Ice Melee - buff Freezing Touch's damage a little and make it a burst or lower recharge. Make Frost do more burst up front perhaps - could play around with this set - awhile back I thought it was shown to be the lowest damage melee set in the game when it comes to real-world play.

Psychic Blast - Blaster version in particular, maybe raise Psionic Tornado's damage or play with the soft control to make up for it. Will Domination could use 100% chance of sleep (how do you explain Cosmic Burst otherwise for Rad?) Other than Psionic Tornado, this set isn't as bad as some make it out to be.

I think Physical Perfection should be available to ALL ARCHETYPES.

Make Energy Orbs powerset.

I might think up some more later but I didn't sleep much last night.

Because the people who DO use it are essentially providing free word-of-mouth marketing for City of Heroes. Considering how much money companies spend now a days trying to start viral marketing campaigns having tools to help those fans who want to do it for free seems like a smart move.

Those videos, and things like the comic creators, are much better promotional tools for the game than something like a botched twitter campaign that angers them instead. I feel that bringing a story and personal involvement to the game, exposing that to people who don't play it yet and to people who have lost personal investment in it, is something to be proud of.

It's likely that he had quite a bit of input early on for the writing of the storylines in the initial GR zones, but I think you have the wrong person for the First Ward storyline. He'd been gone from Paragon Studios long before First Ward.

IIRC First Ward was written by either Dr. Aeon or Protean although .Viridian. may have been involved in that as well.
Protean actually referred to himself as "Johnny Ambush" in the first Player Summit, so I think that's him.

My wants list is:
more targeted aoe IO set's one more uncommon and another rare would be nice(PLEASE)

Overveiw the older hero contacts and pull all defeat X group mission heroside that are NOT part of arcs, alongside reordering the legacy hero contact missions so that they have a 1st mission 2nd mission and so on. Alot of the time when doing some of the oldest content in game, regardless of if everyone has the same contact and your doing the same arc, the contact will give the mission in a scrabled order to everyone (ie this person will get go here, another will get the kill such here, while another will get door mission here even off the first intro to the arc.)

The next is a totaly wish, but can we get a relook at all melee IO sets 1st set bonus. There is NO reason that the first bonus in almost every melee set is a immobilize resistance. No one can stack enough to make it worthwhile, and no one NEEDS it. Even on the powersets of dark and firey aura can pick up on the cheap combat jumping.

Say give kinetic combat a 1 point of of imobilization protection, touch of death 1% extra dmg, focused smite 1 point of kb protection, makos bite 1% leathal resistance, smashing haymaker 1% smashing resistance. The only one I say leave alone would be crushing impact, that set's overall powerlevel is good enough that a little rain must fall or it gets to be TOO GOOD.
The above would be things that would be relevant to most players and overall would increase the enjoyment or might even temp folks to try Io's that normally wouldnt, and I think wouldnt change up what and how most folks us IO's anyway

Now we aren't ready quite yet to let the catgirls out of the bag.... (quote from ex libris)

Oh. I remembered something.

An Accuracy/Endurance Reduction/Recharge Reduction IO set. If an ability doesn't do damage and has no modifiable buff/debuff, you presently can't put any sets into it.

Because in my opinion, our demorecord feature has always been an enormous untapped strategic tool that could have been developed to add a unique feature to the game that would make the addition of the Architect look like adding a new hat.

Imagine if the game recorded everything we did. Imagine if we could play back everything we did. Imagine if we could share that one time when that thing happened that we never saw before. Imagine video diaries of characters. Animated comic book versions of our story arcs instead of just souvenirs. And they could be made a lot smaller: a half-hour BAF with everything happening in it compresses down to about four megs down from 35 as a test. Four gigabytes could probably hold the entire leveling career of the average character.

The machinima opportunities would be just a niche use of something that could be a primary feature of the game. But even there, I bet you could sell quite a few copies of the game to people who just wanted to make superpowered video animations. But the ability to forward a bullet-time floating camera quick-edit video of a particularly interesting mission to a friend? Who can do that now?

We almost can now. And apparently Paragon Studios thinks that ability is a nuisance, not an opportunity. To me, its completely unfathomable. If it was me, I would hire someone whose sole responsibility was making /demorecord work properly. That would be the only thing he did, from eight am to five pm, Monday to Friday, every week, every month, every year. He would keep working on it until the feature worked perfectly, and he would be empowered to shoot any programmer that broke it.

I remember Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now had a VERY cool "replay" feature complete with a controllable camera that could be panned around or locked to specific targets, and this was able to dump the footage straight to video. I had so many videos of the amazingly stupid things I've done by accident I probably filled up half a hard drive (admittedly a small one of the time). The really cool thing about that was it was recording ALL THE TIME, so at any moment whatsoever, I could pause the game, rewind and try to figure out just how the hell I split my car in half by landing on top of an exposed drain pipe.

I've often felt that video recording in this game could be a great benefit, even if I forget how I felt at times. The ability to replay a mission I did, but look at it from an observer's perspective without actually thinking about the controls and just watch would be VERY cool. I'd do that if I could, but considering I have to do it ahead of time AND I need a special launcher AND those things come out bugged anyway... Nah, too much of a PITA.

I actually had an idea that could work for this using the new pop up power bars. Remote Mine! You set it just like you did with original recipe Time Bomb, except as a toggle. While this toggle is active you gain the "Remote Detonation" power, whose animation would be a quick affair (type on your arm, ignore the fact that it is, in fact, just your shirt sleeve!) followed by a big badaboom! (My mind sees this as the explosion that occasionally accompanies Overwhelming Force: KD)

Also, if they made Instant Healing a toggle again, I would weep tears of joy. This is important, because my tears of joy are made of Paragon store points and kinda dampen my inhibitions about spending them on some of the... less useful items (looking at you, costume toggles!)

Of course, Valve also has like at least 10x the resources that Paragon Studios has, so I doubt there was ever a realistic chance of beating Valve to the punch on this one.

I'm surprised bases aren't coming up in this thread. There will always be niggly little details to fix. But in terms of major systems, or going by lines of code, I would guess that bases are the biggest thing in the game right now which needs to be fixed. From what the devs have said, the whole thing is such a mess of spaghetti code that they don't dare do anything with bases. Even if you're happy with the way bases are now, I can't imagine being satisfied, as a developer, with having such a big chunk of code be untouchable like that. Lots of things could stand to be improved, but bases need to be rebuilt from scratch before anything else can be done with them.

I thought he had, but couldn't remember specifically so wasn't going to go there.

I'm getting old and the memory isn't what it used to be.

However, he was referred to as Johnny Ambush long before the Player Summit. Once I got confirmation from a reliable source (Liquid) that my memory wasn't off, I started looking for references to back it up and found one.

I'm going to cut part of the quote due to images and such, but want to post it specifically for the opening line:
