  1. I believe everything should go into the store and that promotions should just be a kind of coupon way to save money, and draw interest to a new product. Using a gold star item to promote the game and then locking people out of it is going to make some people unhappy, and some of those are going to walk away disgusted.

Those videos, and things like the comic creators, are much better promotional tools for the game than something like a botched twitter campaign that angers them instead. I feel that bringing a story and personal involvement to the game, exposing that to people who don't play it yet and to people who have lost personal investment in it, is something to be proud of.

And then post a series of posts insulting other players. It is good to add those people to your ignore list, as I will be doing with yourself after reviewing your post history, sir.

So on the topic at hand, I would like to be considered among those who consider limiting content exclusively to people who can monitor twitter and respond within a five minute window to be discourteous to players who do want the item but are unable to give this level of attention to social networking. Those that don't have a smartphone, and those who have other things they need to do during the business day. If Paragon wishes to give away something for free and then make it available in the store for a high point cost, that wouldn't be nearly as bad.

Suggestion: perhaps instead of giving away things that someone may really, really want for some reason, why couldn't you give away consumables like bundles of super inspirations/booster powers? I suspect that may bother people way less and hey, you've got those in the system already. Doing giveaways of consumables could be a great way to gather interest and make the experience of new players easier.

    Variable Names

I think this is an excellent idea and I'd love to see it go into the game but I would favor it being limited to VIP users (or if also premium, then one of the highest tiers.)
It is true though that there is a vocal part of the forum base that is extremely possessive regarding names they've taken. I don't happen to believe them to be the majority of the player base, but they'd speak up for certain.
There's another possible problem in that character rename tokens are a money item for the company at this point. A service upgrade like this may make those less important. On the other hand, if you still need to use one to change the name stuck to a costume slot, the rename tokens could become more desirable rather than less.

I'd like to say that I consider the current schedule OK and would like to request that you guys continue to give us free stuff.

I'd like to vote against this idea. Those pop-ups are very annoying and anybody that wants a release schedule can take the time to go look for a forum post, even if they don't normally use the forums.

Making information available is not the same as forcing it on people, which is what the pop-ups do. It also forces it on people multiple times if they have more than one account.
  7. I'd pay 800 points or something to be able to change it to a custom image. Or even just turn it off and have a big black screen outside of the login dialogue.
  8. yeah, I'm aware that there is a portion of the userbase that is extremely hostile to any sort of change. I'm not interested in another myway-yourway discussion, and don't disagree on all points anyway. This is just an idea about a particular alternative way to address what many people consider to be a problem, if they are so inclined. So I posted it in the 'suggestions and ideas' section.

I don't think it likely for anything to change in the near future, but thought this was an interesting idea if one starts from the premise that some sort of change will probably happen eventually.
  9. I was looking for an official 'game suggestion' feedback place and this seems appropriate.

Many players feel that too many 'good' names are already taken, including names assigned to currently inactive trial accounts and such. When trying to build a character around a 'themed' name, people can find this discouraging. There have been many threads about this topic so there are some strong feelings regarding it out there.

I wanted to offer a suggestion to development: for character name display to be configured more like how titles currently are.

Currently a number of optional titles can be displayed or not. It may be interesting to add toggles for 'hide surname' and/or 'hide firstname' for a particular character, at the player's option.

Other players could be given an option to 'always force display of full name' for all characters if they felt it necessary. Having the pocket D bird or equivalent handle both this and the name hiding feature could make it easier to implement, and less confusing for new players.

If another player with the same 'main' character name logs in, that character is forced to display the full name. The original character would then also be forced up to full name display the next time it changes zone -- this limits 'name checking' overhead to when a player is zoning and doing heavy data exchange anyway. If a hidden name character zones and there are no hits (when you log out it would clear the name from the list) then it would revert to 'main' name again.

So, in such a system, if I wanted just the name 'Champion' but it is taken I might use 'Champion for Freedom' instead and set it to hide the surname. Then as long as no one else logs on a 'Champion' hidden name flagged character, most people would only see 'Champion' for my character's name, and NPCs would address my character as such.

This is a kind of compromise option between the current system 'all names must be totally unique' and an alternative like name@globalname that has been suggested in the past.
