Freebie Friday Has Been Superfudged!

So I logged in to the Paragon market last (Friday, May 18th) and checked the Featured tab...

- No freebie listed.

So I did a search on the term Friday and...

- No freebie listed.

My last resort was to try the New tab and see if I could find it THAT way - and...

- No freebie listed.

So was there really a freebie available on the market yesterday or was my account the only one that got superfudged?

"Freebie Friday" runs for only 24 hours, and in the US a good chunk of the time is on Thursday evening (so Friday evening the item will already be down).

IMO, might be a good idea to extend it a few more hours, even if that means it's more than just 24 hours long.

It's a big world out there, kids. Freebie Friday runs all day Friday "Universal Time," not "your time."

I'm inclined to agree.

However, before anyone complains too much, let's all remember that Freebie Friday requires someone at Paragon to log in and manually enable/disable it -- that it begins at 4pm Thursday and ends at 4pm Friday in the Pacific time zone where Paragon Studios is located means they can do it while they're already at work instead of staying late.

Seriously? You'd think the big fancy thirdparty microtransaction platform they're using would be able to handle something like that.

Ah! That explains it. I logged in a little after 9pm EDT Friday so they must've taken it down already. I'm not able to play during the week due to a hefty workday/commute so the earliest I can get on is Friday nights (and I'm guessing its always gonna be right after they take it down).

There go all my Freebie Fridays! Oh well, I'll live.

... just out of curiosity, what was the freebie this week?

A dual inspiration.
You didn't miss much.

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

Eastern time, it runs from 7pm Thursday to 7pm Friday. So log on Thursday evening; it only takes two minutes or so to claim your freebie.

Or if you can't, no big deal. Last week the freebie was a 1-hour 25% XP booster, this week it was a Guarded (+def/+res) team inspiration. Nice to have, but not a huge deal to miss, either. The freebie is shaping up to be the equivalent of a single (common or uncommon) card from a Super Booster.

You'd think so, but apparently not.

You'd also think that the big fancy third-party microtransaction platform they're using would be able to handle either hiding things you've already purchased, giving a list of things you've purchased in a relatively easy to read format, or giving an error message that explains the exact problem when you have something in your cart at checkout that you've already purchased.

You are giving PlaySpan too much credit.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

True... they also, apparently, don't support accessing the store via an external browser... note: You access the store in-game via an embedded web browser (specifically the QtWebKit wrapper around the WebKit engine).

I got the impression that it's so much that they can't automate it, as much as they just want someone to be around in case something goes wrong.

Considering Friday evening in the United States timezones is primetime for game activity, the event should at least be extended so that it covers Friday evening. I have a hard time believing that the devs can't work out a way to disable the event remotely so one of them can do it in a couple minutes really quick at home.

If they required me, in my job, to interrupt my Friday evening plans after work for something so trivial, they'd have to compensate me quite a bit.

Everything I've done outside of normal work hours (mostly working the ticket gate at sporting events or working the Reserved Seating entrance at the football games) was purely voluntary and I was compensated extra for my time.

I believe the infringement on employees off-work time is also the reason they changed the scheduling of the updates to the Paragon Market.

EDIT: Friday night is one of the two days of the week that I'd NEVER ask an employee to have to interrupt their off-hours plans every week. Saturday would be the other day.

It should really be called "Freebie Thursday" because at least for me, by the time I get off work on Fridays, the sale is over.

So I just call it, "Freebie Friday that should be really be called Freebie Thursday" The End.

Takes 3 minutes (presumably not very long anyway) and they could just offer an appropriate bonus? Not everybody goes out, you know. Hell, I'd do it for nothing if I were a dev. And you know, they do pay employees to work outside of normal working hours.

Going to disagree with this. Why should someone at Paragon have to interrupt their time off?

The hours of this weekly event are clearly posted. If the player can't make time to log in within the 24-hour window, the reward must not mean that much to them.

Just my opinion...

24 hours is a plenty big enough window.
If people can't be bothered to log in, their loss.

I'd agree, except they call it Freebie FRIDAY, yet for most of the player base, practically speaking, you have to log in on THURSDAY to get it. It's confusing.

If I were them, I'd change it so that it ran for two days. Basically, no matter when your Friday starts or ends, you'd be able to log on and get it. And yes, that means that some people would be able to get it on their Thursday, and some people would be able to get it on their Saturday, depending on exactly which time zone they're in.

Otherwise, I'd highly recommend that they stop calling it "Freebie Friday" or else this kind of confusion will continue. Maybe they should just call it "Freebie Day" instead, indicating that it's a 24-hour period, not necessarily a specific 24-hour period.

For future reference, though, everyone in the Eastern time zone needs to make a mental note that "Freebie Friday" lasts from 7:00pm EDT Thursday until 7:00pm EDT Friday.

It does bring up an interesting question, though. UTC does not observe Daylight Saving Time. Later in the year when EDT shifts to EST, will the time Freebie Friday starts and ends shift too?

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

I doubt a name change will end the complaining, but if they were to go nondemoninational something like The 24 Hour Treat would work.

One the devs seem to share as well.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Some people derive value from going above and beyond the base expectations of their job, although I guess there are fewer and fewer people like that nowadays.

Just my opinion...

Another "meh" item, eh? At least I don't have to feel bad about completely forgetting about it until this topic reminded me.
