Paying it Forward in a Fabulous Fashion

For many of us, working in the gaming industry is a distant dream, much less working on the game we love. Because so many of us are grateful to be where we are, we're always looking for way to pay it forward.

Many of you may have noticed the new person sitting behind me durring our Twitch broadcasts. Some of you may have interacted with him as Mod 09 during his short stint here at Paragon (*cough*). Well, most of you probably know him as Adric "Arbiter Fabulous" Mayall. "Fab" as he is called by many, is a long time veteran of CoH, having started playing way back in beta. Through the years he's been involved in many aspects of the City of... Community, as a part of the Streetwise CoV Promotion team, a staff member of City Scoop and having been an attendee at Hero Cons, Meet & Greets and both of the Pummits. With Herr Freitag taking an extended vacation, we had an opportunity to invite Adric to spend some time working more closely on the game we all love. Sadly, with Freitag returning from distant shores next week this time is coming to a close.

I would personally like to thank Adric for his time spent, not just for the last few months, but over the past several years, dedicated to the CoH Community. We wouldn't be the same without you!

While I am sad that Fab's no longer living the dream over with you guys at Paragon, this FINALLY means that he can call me to say hello and the first words out of his mouth no longer have to be "oh God, I wish I could tell you about something".

Don't worry, Zwill, he didn't tell me anything. He was resolute and closed-mouthed to the end.

I've been biting my tongue since I recognized him during the first Twitch.TV Coffee Talk. Of course, you calling him Adric is what caught my attention at the time.

Fab, it's been great knowing that you were able to live your dream of working there if only for a short time. It gives us all hope.

I wish you the best in the new job you get to start next Monday and I'm glad it's also doing something you'll enjoy. Just be careful with the Frisbee's.

Hope to see you again if I ever get a chance to get back out to California.

That's awesome. That makes me feel good making CoH videos for people, thinking the dev/community team might get some additional promotion out of them. Once Freitag is back, I hope you guys keep him around for various things in the future, or rely on him when things come up.

Nifty! It's good to see that you kids look inward to the community when you have needs like this, it really makes us (well, me anyway...) feel like Paragon Studios and the players are really closer than most game studios.

Enjoy your time there, Adric! Grab a souvenir, but not something they'd miss!

He isnt the 1st player that I know who has worked for NCsoft... Aero (ex redname of the EU boards) was also a player originally.

Castle, BAB, Alpha Wolf, Niviene and Dr. Aeon were all players first.

I'm not certain but I think Ghost Falcon was a player before he started working there. It may just be that he was working there and playing on Justice before I met him the first time. He sure knew enough of the Justice players names at that Meet & Greet.

The Net was "I think" a player first. I know a few others that were players first that never had red names and that I can't name anywhere.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure Z was a player long before getting hired there, but that could be just a memory failure on my part.

Pretty sure Second Measure was a player too.

Hello everyone,

I know that this mod account will be closed soon, and I meant to say this while I was in the office. Forgive me, Andy, if my doing this 'after my tenure' is inappropriate.

This community rocks. I want to start out by saying that my chasing my dream to get in the game industry would not have happened if not for you. I honestly and sincerely mean that. My walking those halls, I thought, was just me doing it for all of you. I'll be honest. I have seen how this game is made, and it has only made me appreciate this dev team and their hard work more. No, I will not give any spoilers, but I can safely say that Issue 24 and beyond is some of the best stuff I have ever seen in any game. That's not me saying that as a Studio Employee, that's me saying it as one of you, a member of this amazing community,a player who puts their heart and soul into their characters and the lore crafted by the amazing team.

I hope one day to be honored to grace those halls again. But I take from my experiences a renewed appreciation for every single one of you. From the RPers on virtue, to the PVPers, to the artists, the casual players, the base builders, the lore junkie, the costume fashionistas, the build makers, every last member of you. While we may have our disagreements, at the end of the day we are united as the best dang community a game could get. Take pride in that.

I'm mostly a lore guy, as well as costumes. The opportunity to undertake a creative writing project in the Captain Mako Week was a deep and humbling honor. I tried to keep it as true to lore as I could, while being a rocking fun read. I hope you enjoy it. But this isn't about me, this is about you. I wanted to give YOU all something. to pay you all back in some small way for the motivation to move across the country those years ago. Admittedly a humorous story about Gideon Ray may be an odd way to do it, but please think of it as a handwritten thank you card.

Until we meet again, friends. Well.. see you in game is more like it.
