Discussion: Introducing Tweet Code Thursdays!
...aaand no codes today. So all of you who camped out for them, well, DO IT AGAIN TOMORROW. Thanks for your support!
You know, Zwill, I defended, and continue to defend (and buy) Super Packs. I use Twitter off and on pretty much all day, and I've been following the CoH account forever.
And I hate -- HATE -- this promotion.
I'm offering to pay actual, real-world MONEY for this.
I don't care how many codes you have to give away. I don't care how often you plan on doing this. You're still insisting on giving a handful of players this aura, and giving the vast majority of players the finger.
And then you're telling us we're the jerks for being upset about that. You're getting so caught up in telling people they're wrong for not liking this promotion that you're not even paying attention to what they don't like about it. Nobody (or almost nobody) objects to Paragon Studios using Twitter. They object to the way Paragon Studios is using Twitter.
Also, no, the login issue was never fixed. The boards went down for a day, supposedly to fix the problem, and when they came back up, nothing had changed. If I close my browser, I will be logged out. No matter whether the "remember me" box is checked or not. No matter whether I'm using Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Firefox. No matter whether I use my computer, my roommate's computer, or the Mac at my parents' house with either IE or Safari. I know because I've tried.
FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.
I think I'll just wait it out at the end of the day its just a fancy item....
I think I'll have better luck some other way then the twitter stuff.

Disliking it or not though, we're doing what we can with the resources we have available to us. Is it ideal? Nope.
FWIW, we're discussing different ways we can promote it that don't involve a mad dash. That *will not* be the case for this week though as it basically requires me scheduling someone's entire day dedicated to this project as opposed to a few minutes each hour.

Well I kinda find the um wolf... kinda a big hipe and let down.. in the end hes just a Black Wolf, he follows you around does nothing....
Hes cool looking but I kinda would prefer keeping mine on my beta account instead of main. In my opinion Hes not worth spending aimless money on, focus on the ATO's and boosters you get... I mean thats helpfull even if you didn't get what you want you wind up with alot of stuff to level, gain inf, prestige ETC. |
I would not be significantly happier to have the Kirby Dots aura put on that level of reward chance in the market, though it might be just the thing to turn a grab bag into a gambling addiction for me...
Isn't the hardsuit a Halloween event Market Costume?
Not quite sure where I said anyone was wrong for disliking it...I said I understand why some folks dislike Social Media in general. I absolutely understand what they don't like about it, and admitted that it wasn't an ideal situation further up the thread.

In fact, I'm looking at my Twitter feed right now, and a local concert venue just tweeted about how the first person to tweet them back with the answer to a trivia question wins FREE TICKETS to tonight's show! Know why I'm not upset with them over that? Because if I want to go to that show, but I don't win those tickets, I'll have had the opportunity to get them in a way that didn't involve blind luck in direct competition with hundreds or thousands of other people. I could just, you know, buy them.
"Hey, follow us on Twitter and you could win this cool thing for free! Or you could just go to the Paragon Market and buy it."
There's your solution. Twitter account legitimized, man-hours allocated, player base not alienated.

In my personal opinion, this is the best manner of giveaway. The facepalm thing, that is, with a page that generates a code. Instead of using a site I'd prefer not to use, having two broswer windows open, one sitting on the page to claim the code, and one on Twitter, hoping I can get the code and activate it before everyone else doing the same freakin' thing activates it and I lose my shot at that code, and all the others posted at that time as well because I took too long. This is just my two cents.
|
Yes, we're trying to grow another outlet. There's strategery in them thar hills.
The "code generator" wasn't generating anything at all. It was pulling from a static database of codes. It was also programmed by a third party and was a standalone tab on our Facebook page. Something we don't have the option to do on Twitter. |
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

It's a bit of code. With your resources, you could have it unlock on every player globally for free, have it attached to a badge, or purchaseable with Astral or Emp merits, or Paragon Points (It's Kirby Dots... I'd pay real money for it). What resources are you talking about exactly?? That's like saying you have to take a vanity pet or costume piece off the market because you ran out of them... (Sorry, no more fireman's hat or glasses/goggles options, we used up all the glass on the windows in our new zone!)
Again, I have no problem with the current promotion. What boggles me is that you currently have no plans to just let us buy it at some point, or attach it to the Paragon Rewards system. The 'exclusivity' should be because they got it for free, and well before it becomes available to everyone.
I'd be paitent and pay out. Ironically enough, I'm betting most of us 'old timers' who grew up with the Kirby Dots are in positions similar to mine. It kind of feels like you'd rather not take our money in exchange for the chance to screw us out of something...
Anyway, I've had my say, and I'm trying to remain constructive. This is my last post on the matter. I'm leaving that last sentence in the above paragraph with the snark simply to drive the point home, just in case you don't realize how these kinds of promotions come off sometimes. Especially when you make it a point to flaunt to those that are having the problem with it that there's no plan to make it available except in a kinda-probably-maybe-but-most-likely-not kind of way with a vague hand-waving at some future that may never happen.
There's a lot of great stuff like the Prestige Power Slide that may never see the light of day again, either because you guys forgot about it, or nobody that doesn't have it is new, and doesn't know to ask. Still sitting in the game taking up code. Why not let folks that want it, have it?

and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan
very heroic of ya!
They've already answered that. They had to use a third party to develop the standalone tab on Facebook that accessed the list of codes. They don't have the capability to add something like that to Twitter.
|
Otherwise, it was more like the Freedom Freebies we see each week now than a starkly limited "exclusive."
(I know I said my last post was going to be my last, but I had to point out what a great community we do have in general, even when we don't always agree )

If I recall correctly, the facepalm codes were not single-use affairs, but were region associated. If you lived in the same State you would get the same code, and it would work on more than one account. Definitely an unusual bit of code in that.

It wasn't the same code for everyone in the same region.
There was a database of static codes and the button merely grabbed a code from that database. There were codes valid for EU accounts and code valid for NA accounts.
Having gotten more than one code (helping someone else get one that couldn't access Facebook), I can guarantee they were not the same code for each region.
They've already said that there would be EU codes as well as NA codes for the Twitter giveaways.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Just read through the thread and saw your posts. If you're the "one" who leaves over this, the costume contest and benefits for twitter isn't worth it.
If it's not exclusive to Twitter and available as prizes for contests in-game but still exclusively one-shot codes, would that ease things? I can see a benefit in having a rare object in game to inspire people to action and talk. The success that the game has seen after Freedom has me trusting the people involved in sales. Also, the Twitter account announced that codes will resume after the NCSoft maintenance. If you're inclined for Twitter codes, you might want to camp out. |
I try not to speak ahead of myself, as I may have, but...
It's not about Twitter at all. I have an account and have no problem with them giving away anything they are nice enough to give wherever and in whatever way they think of (haha, well, mostly... I could imagine some ways I may not be okay with, but ANYWAY...).
However, this is about exclusivity and, more so, the selling out of the costume and customization aspect of this game.
We all have our aspects of the game that we may love the most. Mine is being able to access anything and everything to make the characters we imagine come to life in this virtual world.
They have clearly decided that it is okay to use those aspects for exclusive rewards and I'm just not happy with it to the point that I'm sick of being disappointed every other announcement (Yay, Blaster love... booo Super Packs 2 exclusive and super rare items... Yay more cool stuff... boo exclusive Aura).
Incarnate costume and emote unlocks (fine, not everything is going to be my way and I can live with it, even if I disagree), Super Packs (I want to buy/pay for the items I want and I do not want to pay for items I do not want just to get them. Everything else in the packs got adjusted... but NOT costumes and not the black wolf... then the same exact thing with the second Super Pack and zero regard to those of us who hold the costumes and customization aspects to be the most important feature in the game). Tier 9 Vet rewards being rotated out with some vague possibilities to have them opened again... fine... Even if they include Elemental wings, fixed tech wings and jet pack stuff...
Kirby friggin' Dots aura?? Are you serious? And no way to acquire them normally... not now, not planned... who knows, we'll see... blah blah blah.
Sick of it.
However, I get it. I see it. The writing on the wall is clear. It has been for a while. I was hopeful that they'd come around and stop using this aspect of the game this way, but they're not.
So... it's a matter of choice for me. Let it be and enjoy what I enjoy despite my disappointments with these options or let go of this hobby and stop hoping they'll change their mindset and approach with what I loved the most about it.
They're not evil for doing things the way they want, but I can't stand to see it continually get worse.
Oh no, they'd NEVER sell badges... Why? I don't know... but my favorite aspect is fair game (fine by me... I'll gladly pay for costumes and customization as I have been since the Boosters).
And they'd surely never only offer powersets the way they have offered costume pieces... As others have brought up. Oh, the outrage.
Well, I'm not outraged, but I'm just done having MY favorite aspect sold out to whatever marketing scheme they come up with.
Have fun. I'm not going to sit idly by during that. I've not. I've voiced my opinion each time, but my voice here has done nothing (that's fine, it absolutely does not have to!).
So, it's about me stopping a hobby that does things that annoy me to certain levels.
And, maybe my voting with my money may possibly change things, but i doubt it.
I am a minority within a minority and I get that.
However, I get enough of it in real life, lol... I'm sick of it cropping up in my pretendy fun time now.
No idea how this reply has turned out, but I'm just going to submit it.
and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan
We've modified the way Tweet Code Thursdays are going to work.
For item codes, we'll announce when the codes will be going out, and we'll give people a specific amount of time to re-tweet our post. If you re-tweet our post, we'll respond directly to you with a code to use. No scramble. No luck involved. No twitchy fingers required. Simply re-tweet our post in the timeframe given and we'll direct message you with a code.
In short, if you want an item code, do the following:
- Follow us on Twitter
- Re-tweet our tweet when prompted to do so
- Receive a code

Watch us Live on Twitch.TV every Wednesday!
Please never assume that something can *just be done*.
And the resources in question is the Community Team. We do A LOT of things manually, because we don't want to cut into development time for our requests. Time that could be spent working on new content like powersets or new missions or spent coding QOL improvements. This time has to come from somewhere, and I would rather they do something like coding a UI upgrade than building a Facebook or Twitter interface.

It still leaves out those that cannot access Twitter during that time, but there will always be someone somewhere that cannot access it when you are doing this, no matter what time it is.
Thanks.

[QUOTE=Lycantropus;4305240] Thank you. That's why, at the end of the day, this game beats any other in my opionion. Our community.

Ideally, that's a great idea. I'll look into seeing if that's something we can do that won't require monopolizing my staffs entire day.
We will do what we can with the manpower and resources we have available. |
Speaking of resources: would it be possible to publish a code that works for any number of people and then say manually enable it and disable it?
Then you could say "Everyone who grabs a code in the next hour gets a goodie." And your whole staff isn't monopolized, just one person twice in a one hour period. Add on whatever preconditions you can reasonably service. Retweet us, fill out a questionnaire, link us, like us, wash Zwill's car, etc.
Just kinda guessing here but that sounds like something that might be available without having to ask engineering (or a third party).
