Would you like to see this X-men reboot?

Retcon the third movie to be a bad dream.

Franchise fixed.

As usual, his ideas are way too drastic to ever actually be done, but he's not working for Marvel in the first place, so who cares?

I think he has some very interesting ideas. It's also interesting to see some really dramatic power/appearance/etc changes and realize that the basic essence of the story and characters is unaffected.

While it is certainly imaginative, I think it would work better with an original IP rather than with the X-Men, and as a animated series rather than a movie. He's talking about putting quite a bit of characters and plot into what would be a 2 hour movie.

Overall, his reimagining strays too far from the source material.

Or keep Cyclops alive and make the new third movie far less Wolverine centric.

I don't terribly mind the art, but I disliked most of the ideas. I didn't care for the premise, and things kinda went downhill from there. The only thing I sort of liked was Apocalypse having an elemental basis rather than biblical.

I don't really understand why people want to take these great characters and this classic story and revamp it so dramatically, to the point where it shares little more than a name and some small token elements with the original source material. About the only thing I agreed with in that whole article was the idea that the X-Men should be kept in a world of their own without other superheroes.

Everyone loves doing their own interpretations of great works. Look at the multitude of Batman shows and movie franchises we've had.

That said, I think this is pretty cool.

I don't care for the manga-y art style, and I think the author missed or rejected some of the stronger ideas that've become attached to the X-Men over the years, but there were still plenty of good thoughts there. I am always interested in reimaginings, though I wouldn't want to see this one (or most) replace the original source material.

Favorite thing: recognizing Nightcrawler as an emotional core of the group.

Most-disliked thing: the way the art style made the "human"-looking members of the group, notably the ordinary-looking teenaged girls, look the least human.

General observation 1: Why does every "reboot" idea involve turning characters into rebellious teenagers? (Though I'll give him that a series that involves a school sort of grants this particular idea a pass.)

General observation 2: I'm getting a bit tired of that art style, especially the creepily oversized eyes. I see it in a lot of different properties across many media and creators. Also, while I like the notion of soft edges, while it worked great for the stylized, Deco pseudo-'30's of Batman: the Animated Series, I'm not sure it fits something that's supposed to be about edginess and being uncomfortable. Finally, I feel that it makes all characters look a bit younger than other styles do, which would be a problem for this idea, since we have a set of young characters and a set of older ones.

These reboots and rehashes are getting to be ridiculous. It's almost as if someone in Hollywood said "I bet we can remake a movie we just did not even a decade ago and people will pay even more money to see it." Whomever that was is probably related to the guy that thought up bottled water...

This actually sounds worse than X-Men 3. Never make it, destroy any mention of the idea, mindwipe the person who thought of it and anyone who saw it.

I wouldn't go quite that far.

I think the idea of Celestials is a good one. And I love Apocalypse. Other than that? Yeah... not a fan.

Also, the art style is horrific.

So in this reboot, it sounds like they need a more practical Rise of the Phoenix just like we do!

I like all the concepts for the characters. Sounds like he's going for some more realistic character development. I also like the art direction quite a bit. But I think this would be better as an alternate timeline than a overall reboot to the comics.

I don't think Diaz's work takes much direction from manga at tall. In fact, his style reminds me very much of Disney's animated Tarzan from a few years ago and other western sources. His character designs have far more facial differentiation than you'd see from most manga artists... and they have noses. Putting that aside, the thing I enjoy the most about his art is the attention to detail in the costumes. They actually look practical for the most part rather than the typical sexed up tights of most comic designs. I do, however, agree there's a certain dissonance between the ideas and the artwork.

As for reboots... that seems to be a naughty word amongst comic book enthusiasts, so let's rephrase that to an Elseworlds (of which Batman has had many interesting takes). As to answer the question of why do people enjoy these off-the-rails trains of thought, we've seen nearly 50 years of the same concept with many ideas being played over and over again (like bringing back the Phoenix again, seriously?). The big two cling to the status quo. Even events like the New 52 end up feeling remarkably the same. I enjoy seeing someone take the risks that the publishers and fans would never allow.

Wait, this is supposed to be a movie idea? Blech. Way too much going on, just as in the (actual) third X-Men film. As a TV show, comic, or novel, though, it might work.

Um... nope. I'm not sure where this idea is coming from.

The phrase "reboot the franchise" is generally associated with movies, not a line of comics existing within a greater universe. This would be an even worse idea to implement in the comics because of how great the impact would be across the Marvel Universe.

For some reason, I assumed it was an idea for an animated series.

I like the use of the Celestials, especially since some stories have them doing exactly what he described in his reboot pitch. Using them to resurrect extinct races by manipulating human DNA? No. It's already been established in old Kirby era Eternals that the Celestials are the reason for mutants, but for unknown reasons. I think the mystery helps the mutant mythos in Marvel. They are not naturally evolved as the artists clearly thinks, they already have a sci-fi bend that works without the idea of resurrecting alien races. I actually think the whole Earth-X storyline, with the Earth having a Celestial embryo inside it and superhumans evolving as natural white blood cells to protect it, is a perfect fit for Diaz's reboot.

The actual characters and concepts, meh. He turned Colossus into a meathead who wants to be Superman, Shadow-Cat into a Velma/Catwoman hybrid (which kinda works in an animated setting) and the rest into emo hipsters. I strongly dislike his take on Rogue, Mystique, Wolverine, Apocalypse, Archangel, and Juggernaut.

I do like his ideas on Cyclops and Havok's powers. That's a a really neat idea, but I think he could have just as easily made someone new or used Xorn.

All in all an interesting idea, but not really true to the X-Men franchise in any form except maybe as a 1602/Earth-X style alternate reality. He clearly put a lot of thought into how it would all play out, but it just sounds like something new with a coat of X's slapped on.

I'd like to retcon the entire industry back to a time before everything was rebooted every other week because the editor knocked back a few too many at lunch.

They tried that, it ended up getting retconned.
