Aside from the unnecessary costume changes and the lack of Lizard's snout, it does look okay, but I'm still a little hesitant about it. I worry if they'll be able to balance the characterization and action as well as Raimi did.

My wife saw that trailer today in the theater and leaned over to ask why I didn't seem very excited, and while I'm sure it's going to be good, the updated costume is eh with all the dark fake muscle airbrushing and the first two Raimi films were very good and that wasn't all that long ago.
So my answer to my wife was I hope it's good of course.
seems like it might be better than I thought...maybe.

Whenever I see Spiderman trailers, or Captain America in the Avengers, I always imagine producers coming in, seeing the dailies and saying "hey looks good, but can you have him take off his mask more often?" I know they pay for the actors and thus want to see their faces, but it's starting to get stupid that they doff their masks at the drop of a hat.

Masks are not very expressive, hence superheroes in movies tend to loose them whenever they need to emote and/or feel angst when their parents inevitably die. Why do you think that the Iron Man movies keep cutting to a inside the helmet view whenever Tony says anything?

Yeah, in comics and animation the artists often "cheat" and let expressions show through masks. They'll draw the mask as though it were the character's actual face. Which is fine, it lets them portray emotion. But actual physical masks don't do that.
Iron Man could theoretically have moving parts on his mask to allow expressions, but that would probably just look creepy.
I don't know. Captain America's mask can allow him to show emotion quite easily.
And Batman never seems to lose his mask.

The "you've found my weakness" bit has me very hopeful for this movie. If he does that more often than just the one scene, it will be the first time in silver screen history that Spider-Man has the right personality.
I'm actually looking forward to this now. My feelings have switched from "Is this movie really necessary?" to "GET OUT OF MY WAY, MONTH OF JUNE!"

As for the Spiderman trailer, the tentacle thing looks interesting, but I don't think I'm ready for another version of a familiar origin story, this one apparently retconning that Peter Parker was genetically modified as an infant, just for the sake of being different.
I really should do something about this signature.
Captain America doesn't really have a secret identity in the current movie continuity, so it doesn't matter if he wears a mask or not.

Comes home from seeing Avengers again.....oh there are other comic movies this year? Hadn't noticed
I remain in the 'meh' category on this one. IMO the reboot in too soon. I don't know that I'll bother seeing it in a theater.
Too many alts to list.
I haven't read any leaks on it, is that what this one is saying, or is that just what you think?

I see. I thought that was more of a "This is fate." type of speech.

The vibe I'm getting was that Peter Parker was a genetic experiment, in which Curt Connors was involved. Hence, I'm concerned that (human form) Curt Connors is going to be evil in this movie.
"You know what was special about that spider that bit you? NOTHING!"
Ok, so I made that last line up, aint I a stinker?

Yup. Let's hope I'm just being paranoid...
But as far as I can see, anything involving Peter's mum and dad would go against comic continuity. Was ANYTHING ever established? |
In the Ultimate universe, Peter's father developed what would eventually become Venom alongside Eddie Brock Sr., as well as working on attempts to revive the Super Soldier Program for S.H.I.E.L.D. Depending on whether you go by the Ultimate Origins comic or the Ultimate Spider-Man video game (which Bendis claimed is supposedly in-continuity), one or both of these eventually led to his parents' death.
So, yeah. There is a precedent for mysterious doings surrounding Peter's folks. I just really hope it doesn't overshadow the loss of Uncle Ben, which should be the real defining moment in Spider-Man's life.
