All Things Character Art
If we're also on the subject of old costume pieces that went mysteriously and inexplicably missing, I'd also like to bring up a piece that I unfortunately never got to see in action, but have seen a few screenshots of in the past and seen requests for. With the release of COV apparently there used to be a shoulder option for Male and Huge that gave you a big fur ruff around the shoulders and the back of the neck, very much like Kraven the Hunter. I sadly don't have pictures of it, but by all accounts it was removed silently, never spoken of again and no explanation was ever given seeing as it didn't clip with anything we had at the time. I'd very much like to see this option return as there are several bestial options now and I have a few costumes that could very much benefit from it. It would work well with barbarian outfits, monsters/mutants/animal pack pieces/yetis/really hairy guys/etc. The female model has the bolero fur, even if it is restricted to use on jackets, but this was usable on tights/skin and other types making it very versatile, and it also added some bulk to the character making it a very striking piece. It would be very nice if men could have this piece back so we can make furry/hairy/whatever characters.
I sadly don't have any screen shots of it, but I'd be very surprised if it isn't still floating around in costume creator limbo somewhere. Even if it isn't, is it possible we could have a new/scruffier version of it? I'd even settle for it as a back detail that just sits on the shoulders, or possibly even an alternate version with an animal skin cape similar to Shadowhunter. It'd be a one-off piece really, but we've received several of those recently and they're not a bad thing, they sometimes provide just the perfect piece that was missing for some people. I'd very much appreciate it, and my wild-boy beast tamer would very much appreciate the extra warmth with the coming winter months. |
I've only been able to Google up some pics that players have posted in other threads pertaining to lost costume bits:
Positron: "There are no bugs [in City of Heroes], just varying degrees of features."
Magic Bolero Shoulder Fur is now in all Female upper body categories with the exception of Armored and will be released in a future update ^_^
I also got a bug for the Monstrous gloves, so that will also be in a future update as well. Thanks guys! |
Also, I never knew that there was a shoulder fur type thing like that. One of my characters NEEDS that!

If you only have been in CoH before, how many bugs, category oversights, costume fixes, and costume pieces ported could you get done already.
Big thanks, Dink you are awesome!
The pieces you're referring to were called either Beast Fur or Monstrous Fur. There were a couple of variations for the shoulder pieces, as well as an accompanying chest item.

Why on God's green earth were they removed and for the love of all that's holy CAN WE HAVE THEM BACK?!?!?!?!

I have something of a personal request to make. I've asked for stuff like this in the previous version of this thread. So I just wanted to bring this up again. And given all the talk recently about Gold/Sliver age costumes it strikes me that this is very sliver age in theme although that was not my intent. (Intent was Steampunk)
Basically I want a WWI/WWII British military pack. Stuff like gas masks, Trench coats, Great coats, Storm coats, Brody helmets, Sam brown belts, 3D Bandoliers,(one we have now is... flat) bayonets, trench knives, Bren Guns.
Lets just skip to the pictures of yours truly so as to not subject you to more of my babbling.
I would like more stuff like this.

SmegHead: I can look into it only not right away as I need to finish the Post Apoc set.
BViking: That looks like a bug, I repro'ed it on my end but can you please report it to the proper area? thanks ^_^
Take your time Dink and thanks for responding as much as you do.
there are gas masks, many versions of them. Most in the science pack I believe. Also lots of goggle types
Please make a solid 3D version of almost all basic masks... I am getting real tired of teh war paint trying to be a mask. At least make it that you cannot see the eyebrows anymore :S

Show of hands - how many people would be OK with "painted-on" clothes and masks being turned into actual separate 3D meshes that apply as details AND NOT parts of the base texture? I actually wouldn't mind, because this retains the utility of "painted-on" clothes, in that you can apply them over a variety of base textures, but it also stops them looking like paint.

There's something to be said about the flexibility of body paints (on many items) that may not transfer over well to textured pieces.
Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"

OGODOGODOGODOGODOGODOGOD YES * a million. One of my biggest pet peeves about the costume system in this game is that there are *so many* costume bits that you can't have at the same time as anything but a plain vanilla unpatterned base. For example, if I have a character whose skin is anything other than basic human skin, they can't wear any of the 'clothing' style patterns and instead have to use things from the shirts/jackets/robes/pants/etc type categories. Any gloves or boots that show skin have the exact same problem. This would also open the door to implementation of a more in-depth variation on the same thing that I've also wanted forever - allowing things like (for example) the justice glove's armplate or the warrior boot's shinguard to go on top of some other base texture (like bare skin).

Speaking of long-standing character art issues: I've never understood why there are no bare-skin versions of the various chain and barbed wire wrapped glove options. I mean, there are bare-skin options for the chains and barbed wire wrapped around a character's eyes, while the upper-arm and around-the-neck chains and barbed wire pieces are only bare skin.
