Suggestion: add a 'Trading Fee' for using the /ah command

Purgatorycapra, I've thoroughly enjoyed your views of a returning player, and again, welcome back to the game. But I'd have to agree with my fellow forumites in that I don't see this as a good idea.

You cannot force community on people, regardless of the space you confine them in. Ingame I interact with people in the Help channel, in my Global channels, in Local, and sometimes even in Broadcast. Community is not based on proximity, it is based on individuals and their interactions with other players, be they friends or not.

The way to create a community is to interact others, standing shoulder to shoulder does not guaranty that, having a dialog between players does not even guaranty that, but it is the first step. Players taking that first step is at times a huge leap of faith, you can never know how someone else may react and I've had some experiences with unknowns that have ranged from this person is still a global friend even after four-plus years to something that was petition-worthy. I have not allowed the bad experiences to sway me from lending a hand or answering a question ingame, because I've made friends that way. That is how a community is built, one conversation at a time.

Wait, he was serious?

Man, the last "social interactions" I've had with other players in Wents was using the /ignorespammer command.

The /auctionhouse or /ah command was something I earned as a Veteran Reward for 84 months (7 years) of loyalty to the game, well before Freedom was launched.

Now you want them to implement charging me a fee for a reward I've already earned?

That's effectively taking away the incentive to use the "perk" I was given for being loyal to the game and supporting the game for 84 months (7 years) of subscription. The perk being that I have full access to the market without having to traipse across at least one zone and possibly more and then back to what I was doing?

You must be out of your Nether-loving mind to think this is even remotely a good idea.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Are you serious?

If the game needs more public gathering places, then how about adding gambling to the game and making casinos

And much like the urinal at a stadium, I go to the one closest to the exit so I can get in and get out fast!

Red Valkyrja said much the same, and probably more eruditely.

It was 84 months a year ago.

I'm now on 96 months.

Add me back to the list of people who say no, nay, do not want, no thank you, it's not needed, I don't want it, it solves no problem. I had said as much in a much more succinct fashion, but apparently such things are frowned upon in this establishment.

I have to say no too, but mostly because the underlying argument isn't about the game, it's about the OP (a "me" argument). Here's an idea, if you like going to WW, then go, don't use the /ah command. Problem solved. And if you notice that WW is empty then you can get a pretty good idea of how much people like the /ah command as is. No need to change a QoL perk for the rest of us to suit your fancy.

I'll give this a yes vote. I used to look for O-portals in WW to get my own badge and portal. Now I actually have to ask someone to lay one down for me.

There's also something about a bustling marketplace that makes people spend more on my stuff.

If not a fee for /ah, how about a discount if you buy at WW/BM? In the real world you get charged shipping and handling if you don't go to the store and buy it yourself.

In the real world, I shop at places that ship for free.

I get that Goat wants to have folks out of instances and congregating. Unfortunately that died when the devs gave mission bonus xp. Apparently there is no going back. Much as I wish otherwise.

Ask a friend, on a global channel, or do any one of the missions or tasks that would normally get the trusted with the secret badge. If you've PL'd to 40+ go into the usually dead Recluse's Victory to get an explore badge.

Yes, it is called getting away from people that want to leave their toggles on or spam heals. Thank you for additional ammunition against this suggestion though.

So, how to incentivize players actually using the actual market locations?

Well, I'm glad you asked...

A convenience fee on remote transactions!
In a world were banks happily charge you $2 to pull $20 out of their ATM, surely the Market deserves to gouge for the unparalleled utility of the remote AH screen!

A small, flat fee would make the physical market more attractive without putting a serious dent in the utility of /ah. Also, INF SINK!

Say, 5 or 10 inf per transaction?

Not hurting for inf by even the craziest stretch of the imagination, but no.

Actually, howsabout HELL NO.

It's, essentially, a vet perk.
It's not much of a perk if it costs more every time you use it.

And screw "incentivizing actually going to the market".

One of the reasons we HAVE /AH in the first place is because various market locations are morasses of lag and hideous power spam that people have been BEGGING for some way to avoid for YEARS.

In any case it would provide another inf sink in a game with epidemic inflation.

Please. Not this broken line of "reasoning":
  1. They agree with me, therefore I am right.
  2. They disagree with me, therefore I am right.

Tacking on a fee won't remove the incentive to use /AH.
Tacking on a fee to my loyalty perk WILL piss me the hell off.

I've spent enough REAL money with the company that a silly little grab for my virtual currency like this would irritate me in ways I don't really even like to contemplate.

Even if this were implemented, I find it hard to believe that it would be significant enough to remove money from the game enough to see a reduction in inflation or reduced market prices.

The social aspect I don't really get. I don't go to WW/BM to chat and socialize and I can't say I've seen too many other players that seem to want to either. That said, I still see plenty of people at the auctionhouses.

Me? I have /auctionhouse macro'd and use it with glee.

Oh gosh no.

I actually use the market more with /ah, since I can do it while flying from mission to mission, instead of a large detour, and well, it's a perk I paid for. I don't wanna be penalized for it.

The market is an ANTI-social place. It's an action-free PVP zone.

You're not there for a costume contest.
You're not there to talk to the guy next to you.
You're there to extract money (Inf) from someone who wants something you have.

As others have said. This is a solution searching desperately for a problem.

The only people I think I've ever seen speak up at an WW/BM are Chinese gold sellers and people who are looking for a quick port to Ouroboros, to be honest. I'm not sure what social aspect there is to preserve.

I realize this suggestion guaranteed to be unpopular, but I am genuinely curious to see if someone can come up with an counter-argument more sophisticated than NO, NOT MAH MONIEZ!!11 =P
Hm, lets see...

The /AH feature is a veteran reward. It was given to me for being a long term, valued customer of the game. If I'm following your arguement correctly, you believe that I should have to 'pay' to use this feature simply so you can see more bodies in Wentworths.

No.

Before I opened the thread, I thought the idea was going to be a much-needed INF sink.

I'd back -- and pay -- a fee to assist in the destruction of INF, to fight inflation. Even though it would affect a vet reward. But I'm not so sure the stated idea of WW as a social site would result.

And I have said things in WW not related to money or begging an Oro portal. Mostly complimenting neat concepts and costumes of people I see there.
