So is staff melee out tomorrow?

They've always made a quasi-big deal over their anniversaries. It makes sense to me that they would be saving up something they know people want in order to make sure people are "excited" about the game at a key time. That's Marketing Tactics 101.

You know, I would pay good money for a COMBAT pet similar to the german shepherd. Even if it was like -3 to my effective level, it would be pretty cool to have Rufus out there chewing up runners.
Or if it would just attack NPCs. No more civilians are going to be pushing me out of their way.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

Exicted and agitated are not exactly the same emotions.

The problem is it becomes, "Come celebrate out aniversary we're givening you the chance to buy a present from us!", Riot games did the exact same thing with a community favourite skin, and got the piss royally taken out of them.

The main problem here is that they've been sitting on the powerset for months.

If they hadn't released it to Beta so early then there wouldn't be as much complaining as there is now, Beast Mastery actually came along after staff fighting and got released earlier.

However if they hadn't released it to test then people would be complaining the sounds aren't right when it was released, catch 22 really.

We already know that there's a bundle of "loyalty stuff" coming out on the 18th, that's your anniversary release right there. Staff will probably come out later this month as well, but that's more of a coincidence than anything.

Ha, damn it! I cancelled and re-subbed to change billing information between December first and March thirty first. I wonder if that screws me out of the bundle or if the important factor was that I didn't let my subscription lapse?

Fair enough. Still they know they have something ready to go that'll make people want to play intensely for at least another few weeks. It's like lightning in a bottle and it would make sense for them to drop it at the moment that'll make the biggest splash for them. That "moment" will likely be a couple of weeks from now.

Way to purposefully miss the "or so" in text you quoted.

What is wrong with Z[willinger] saying staff fighting is going to be released on xyz date this month. I mean really the set has been ready for at least two of the four months it has been in BETA. It was more highly desired and requested over BM and they told us when that was coming, so why not staff.
None of that has any bearing. When in the history of the game has a set's release been tied directly to desirability? Even when they gave us a survey for Melee/Armor Sets back in the day, the winners didn't get picked to be made right away. And there is no need at all to give us dates, we rarely get them for anything.

Yes, and I am reacting... just not the way you seem to want.

That works both ways, some of us are just fine with how things are, and have a right to say so. I am very excited for Staff Fighting! I have had a character made and ready for months... MONTHS. Yet somehow I am able to remain sane about how development works for this game, I don't mean to imply that your reaction is insane, it's not... but the sentiment in this thread and others like it is less than level-headed.

Well, if you are to be free to offer an opinion, than so are we. Why can only complaints be heard by Paragon? I would like them to know that I disagree with you and everyone else who is up in arms about Staff Fighting's release date. Whenever it comes out, I will be happy... I am just glad they made the damn set in the first place. Besides, it gives me more time to save up Points!

And since they've already been sitting on it for months what's another couple of weeks going to matter? The people who are upset by the delay are already upset - who else is going to get any more upset now?

From now on I'm going to have to treat everything Zwill says with intense doldrum, if this is his favourite thing in the market ever. He comes along stoking people for todays release... and it turns out to be a pop culture reference to a film that failed in its intent to become a cult classic.

Could of been the Sci-fi set, could of been the rumoured psychic weapon set that Yin uses, nope its an out of date pop culture reference.

Family guy would be proud.

To me it doesn't even matter what they would tie to selling in conjunction with celebrating the anniversary (unless it is a sale on all items concept).

For example if today were the day and it was "Come celebrate a lion of an achievement, our 8th Anniversary, by buying your very own lion pet today!" I would think they were off their rockers.

As long as you didn't "unsub" at all or for any longer than 24 hours you're probably OK.
Many people have had situations like that and the Devs have been fairly forgiving.

I think I went a bit overboard in quoting you when most of my comments should have been directed more broadly.

I didn't really mean any direct malice toward you, you just happened to say a bunch of things I felt needed comment.

I don't know that your characterization of "sitting on it" is 100% correct though I know many probably see it that way. To delay it for the obvious anniversary ploy would cement the view.

And that would actually move me from disapointed/annoyed to angry. I wouldn't want to assume anyone else's reaction but it would seem probable that others would also migrate further along the dissatisfaction path.

Generally it is not thought to be a good idea to intentionally provoke people.

I'm not sure why you suspect that they're going to do that in the first place, SwellGuy, since as I said we already know what they're releasing for the anniversary and it isn't staff fighting.

Perhaps it'd be more appropriate to say the Devs have been "working" on Staff Fighting for a long time and the timing of when they got it ready to go now finds itself lining up with marking the milestone of the 8th anniversary. For all we know they "planned" to release it two months ago, but since that didn't happen their "plan B" is to make the most of the delay which in this case may be to have it coincide with the upcoming anniversary.

Either way the fact is that it's not happening today. If it does or doesn't happen next Tuesday then I'm sure people will continue to have their own theories about it regardless.

FWIW, just saw them both on live and they do appear a little larger than before. Enough so that I didn't mind throwing a few points at them as I have two existing characters that could make use of them as decoration. Hopefully, ideally, my use of points (more particularly the extra lump sums I've spent on points) can be used to help develop some of the stuff I more deeply desire:

  • Costume packs the caliber of the upcoming Retro Sci Fi
  • Alternate power animations for classic animations
  • A dual aura system
  • "Armpit" capes/geometry/wings
  • Revamped silver and golden age core costume bits
  • Generic reflective costume tights
  • Generic glowing tights
  • MM minion customization
  • Power pool customization
  • New MM sets: Dinosaurs, Prehistoric Animals, Clowns (or customization options to decorate our thugs, mercs or ninjas clownishly, including the shoes!), Ice Sculptures
  • etc. etc.

But for now, meh, a few points on another decoration: why not, I suppose?

I don't think it really is his favorite thing ever -- he was quoting the movie to give us an oblique hint without Marketing jumping all over him.

Or maybe just cause he likes riddles and teasing us.

While IMO they should give us a calender either for the current month or announce things a month ahead of time, I can kind of see why they don't.

Can you imagine the RAGE if they had been saying that Staff Fighting would be released on 4/3, and then had to move the date at the last minute because there was a problem discovered?

It shouldn't. If memory serves, Black Pebble said there was about a 24-48 hour grace period for a lapsed account to re-sub before they would be excluded from the loyalty rewards. So as long as you cancelled and re-subbed right away, you should be fine.

Considering the number of people already unhappy that it just didn't come out today? I'd say the forums would be aflame...

"I have something to say! It's better to burn out then to fade away!"

I realize there is disappointment and impatience for staff-ophiles in that they still have to wait.

But what Paragon is doing is fully supporting a new powerset -- Beast Mastery. All the MM IOs are on sale as Attuned SBEs, Coyote travel power, German Shepherd vanity pet, recent sales of Animal pack and Barbarian pack, etc...

They got the doggie rigs out, now they're rolling out the kitty rigs.

And I hate to be a downer for you staffers... but the Panther Stealth travel power was on Beta, so, good chance that will be next week to round out the beastly stuff.

As far as I know, there were no rigs available on Beta for Tiger and Domestic Cat forms... so, at least that shouldn't hold off Staff.

People are misconstruing his words. He said that todays offering was his personal favorite. He maid no claims about what it was or what it's powerlevel or usefulness might be, NOR did he make any claims about whether others would or wouldn't like it.

And just or reference, I have never, and will never buy a vanity pet; and I want Staff Fighting very much. Even still I'm not going to whine and complain about pets because I can appreciate that while I might not like them others do.

That's part of the problem. We don't know what's coming and when this happens...

It's kind of a jerk move.

I'm also not exactly reconstructing his words. It's just when you throw out "It's my personal favorite" it's usually not the most disliked type of item for your players.
