Moonstruck
That's a view of the moon from a place that might be somewhat dimensionally out of phase. Is it ghosted from other zones? I've never noticed. Perhaps it's too far away and doesn't fully draw in.
Doesn't it move the wrong direction, too?

oh, it's always see through! I just happened to get a nice big screenshot in DA instead of another zone.
I have to confess I have no idea what direction the moon moves in, which is probably sign 1 I'm going to die in the wilderness.

Also, I like your opening words in the OP.
Hmm... you may be on to something here.
It is possible it has just had an intangibility effect placed on it... But why??

Just me, or is the moon getting bigger and/or closer with each new update or zone? O.o

Maybe we need to test the solidity of the moon. I know with a guy with a big laser...
There are two moon textures. They introduced a bigger one for the Halloween Haunted House and are using it for DA. Both moons are inexplicably transparent. Sometimes both moons are bugged and appear at the same time one inside the other. The path of the moon is indeed not east to west. And, it's shadows do not track where it is in the sky by necessity, otherwise, you'd have moon shadows racing across the ground faster than you can sprint.
Good night, moon.

Sorry, I'm such a big sucker for Nazi UFO stories....
If I recall correctly, the moon in game actually travels from south to north in the sky, which of course, is completely physically inaccurate. During the Halloween, the game clock is locked to midnight, so the moon doesn't move. (And it's always night.) The fixed moon in Dark Astoria, though, is not due to the game clock being locked. The game clock is running; I think it's probably just fixed to not move across the sky.
We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

As for the moon made of debris thing, unfortunately that's not very physically realistic either. The problem is that, if you blow up or otherwise turn something like the moon into debris, it's not just going to sit there as a cloud. Each individual piece will be moving according to its own momentum and the influence of gravity, and you're quite quickly going to get one of two outcomes. If you didn't blow it up hard enough to overcome the moon's self gravity, the pieces will relatively quickly reassemble under their mutual gravitational influence. It certainly wouldn't look the same, but it would become a solid body once more. If you *did* blow it up hard enough, the pieces aren't going to remain in the same area like that, but will spread out into a ring around the earth, escape into interplanetary space, or both, depending on exactly how you blow it up. Bottom line, if it's bound enough to remain as a distinct object in the sky at all, it won't remain as a more or less unchanged debris cloud.
Of course, the CoH universe has magic, so I suppose the explanation could just be 'a wizard did it', but barring that it's not going to happen. Sorry!

Indeed it does (or the reverse, I forget which). And as I pointed out the first time this was brought to my attention, it's not just physically inaccurate, it's physically *impossible*. If the moon had been magically teleported into a polar orbit at the launch of the game, we'd have about another month or so before it crashed into the earth.

Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
The 'Moon' is in fact a large paper disc with the moon-like image painted on, in low earth orbit. It has been there since the real thing was destroyed in an alien invasion in 1973. Its purpose is to allow all the heroes who have moon-related powers to keep fighting crime.
It is not really a secret and the transparency is fairly obvious, but no one mentions it out of consideration for the previously mentioned supers.
I'd love a more accurate sky and longer day-night cycle in CityOf, but that is never going to get priority and I accept that.
I do not suffer from altitis, I enjoy every character of it.
*huh* i thought a polar orbit was quite possible. After all, other satellites follow polar orbits. Then again i'm not enough of an expert on orbital mechanics to know why polar orbits are impossible for larger things like the moon. Still, it would take a wizard to casually change the orbit like that if it was recent. i always thought that the Primal Earth moon must've always been like that, at least for recorded history, since no mention of the odd orbit is made anywhere in game or in the lore.

I'd say it's more that the lifetime of a typical satellite mission is too short to see any significant perturbation. Sure, Primal Earth's fake moon may start visibly deviating from its 24-hour polar orbit sometime in the mid 40th century, causing the heroes and villains of the day to engage in a tug-of-war event, but it probably won't happen anytime soon.
Also, satellites and Primal Earth's moon have thrusters to make course corrections.
As none of you know, I spend more time looking around than I actually do killing all the things, so let it be known that this theory has been formulated by countless secon--minut-- HOURS staring at the moon.
This is my theory about why our moon is seemingly diffused.
I think it got blown up.
Does this look like a moon not made debris to you?

EDIT: quick note: the moon is pretty much always see-through, regardless of the zone. DA was just chosen because that' where I happened to be at the time.
