Ghost Rider: Oh now THAT'S annoying!

Well, I completely spaced and forgot to hit the late-late showing of the new Ghost Rider flick last night.

So I go and look up tickets in my area for the non-3D version.
Basically, unless I leave work early, there quite literally AREN'T any!

Whiskey
Tango
Foxtrot
?

So now, because people are figuring out what a ***tastic gimmick 3D is, the studios are basically going to force it on us unless we want to just take half a day off work to see it in the middle of the day or go in over a weekend?

Eek!

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Yep. I hate that. I can't find a black and white showing of it around me anywhere either.

Just because you have some new technology doesn't mean everyone wants it.

I see what you did there, not cute nor really a fair comparison, but hey it's the internet right?...

And now you know why I'm violently opposed to 3D whenever it's suggested for City of Heroes. Well, part of the reason, anyway. I had the same experience with Kung Fu Panda 2 - the ONLY non-3D showing that day was scheduled to start half an hour before I even checked for tickets, and then my friend couldn't make the next day, so the thing fell through almost entirely.

3D is a gimmick that I hope would just die already. It hurts my head, it's more expensive so it's butting out regular, non-3D stuff out of the spotlight and it really, REALLY doesn't add all that much to the experience. And now people are trying to sell me 3D TV sets and games that boast about having mandatory 3D, like that Green Lantern thing. "Now with double the headaches!"

This isn't even worth a facepalm.

This isn't even the dubious argument about whether or not 3D "enhances" the movie-going experience.

Put it this way. I get migraines and cluster headaches. Loads of fun, indescribably painful, requires lots of drugs and can literally keep me out of work for a couple days.

Real3D 3D can actually trigger these headaches for me, depending on how badly done it is. So I avoid 3D films for the most part.

Now go fail at trying to be clever someplace else.

The difference is that unlike in a movie theater where everyone is either watching it in 3D or not watching it in 3D, you can turn 3D on or off within City of Heroes depending on your preference. I'd love to have a 3D City of Heroes.

Helpful hint to the OP: Buy a pair of these. Not saying you should have to, but it's an option to get around the gimmick.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.

You realize that City of Heroes is already in 3D, right?

While that fixes the headache problem, it now means that you'll be watching a 2D movie for the admission price of a 3D one.

He's talking stereoscopic 3D.

On top of however much the 2D glasses cost.

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?

A: You crash into another one.

Plus the ammortized cost of the glasses.

Ugh. I already have to wear glasses. I never want to have to wear another pair of glasses on top of them and pay extra for the privilege.

I once loaned a copy of Clerks to someone who brought it back having only watched a few minutes because: "I don't watch black and white movies." Not the only person who I've heard that from. It's like people who used to insist on pan-and-scan videos and dvds because the letterbox versions "cut off part of the picture." /headthump.

I'm going to see the Secret World of Arrietty.

Pretty sure Studio Ghibli will be the last place on earth to make a 3-D movie. ^_^

I feel for ya Hyper; I don't care for 3D movies either...already wear glasses so wearing glasses on top of glasses is...not fun.

Plus 3D doesn't add anything to movies for me.

Woah! Watch out for that baseball, snake and punch we threw at the screen...NEVER saw that one coming... >_>

I don't actually hate 3D movies. When I saw How to Train Your Pet Dragon in 3d it was awesome. During some of the flying scenes I felt a kick in my stomach during sudden turns. The first movie I saw in 3D was Coroline, and the 3d helped to enhance the creepy factor for the movie.

The thing is, I get the distinct feeling that those movies were made for 3D. A lot of the crap that we watch in 3D wasn't, so it looks like some super-dark popup book that throws crap at you at random intervals.

See This article for a much better explanation of the problems some 3d movies have.

The 3D glasses are already uncomfortable (no "probably" about it, I wear prescription glasses) and the ones that TonyV recommend look to be in the same form-factor.

I used to work with a film critic who had never seen a B&W movie. In fact, he hadn't seen any film older than Jaws. He refused to see Raging Bull because it was an "old" movie. I was, as my British friends say, gobsmacked.

In Cincinnati's indie paper (CityBeat) some years ago, their movie critic reviewed the 1998 release of Gone With the Wind, and one of his chief complaints was that the studio had already clearly designed the new print with TV in mind because they had "butchered" the image into a square TV-like format. He later corrected his review when I and dozens of others pointed out to him that the aspect ration of movies used to be square. Which is where TVs got their aspect ratio. (Technically it's 1.375:1, aka the Academy ratio.)
