Ghost Rider: Oh now THAT'S annoying!
No. It's my perception, having seen both. You're certainly welcome to a different one, assuming the same circumstances.
Where to find me after the end:

LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

Most... not all. A lot of folks who for various physical reasons cannot tolerate 3D movies (such as myself), justifiably resent being excluded, or at least restricted, when a theater chooses to show a film only in 3D, or gives the 2D version a much more limited play schedule.
In most cases where 3D is available so is a 2D version, yet these same people still hate that the rest of the general public opt to see things in 3D.

Frankly, beyond this, I have absolutely nothing against the format or the people who are able and choose to enjoy it. But they, at least, are still capable of watching it in 2D. I and many others can't reciprocate.

So I can conclude, from your response that you supposedly have the selfsame issue in the opposite intellectual camp?
Too funny. Look, I made a blanket declaration that people in general are making too much of a big deal about 3D. It looks to me like you took this statement personally then made it your crusade to vehemently beleaguer the issue. You obviously haven't moved on. How do I know this you ask? BECAUSE WE'RE STILL TALKING ABOUT IT!!!! Seriously, if you said your piece and went on your merry, we wouldn't still be having this discussion because folks who can do exactly that don't fall into the category of 'Folks who complain and complain'. In other words, if you can say you dislike 3D for whatever reason, state that reason succinctly and concisely, all without beating the proverbial dead horse then never was I ever talking about you.

No, 13-19 years. Then they undergo a metamorphosis into the dreaded "teenager" stage.
Granted, a few never leave this stage. But most eventually transition onto the adult stage. Unfortunately, there's always a handful that move further along into the lawyer and politician stages. Once they hit these, they're virtually incurable.

Reminds me of Blade 2 when the human that worked for the head vamp offered his hand to Blade and Blade turns it and sees the glyph and says "you're human" and the guy responds "Barely, I'm a lawyer."

ok, though i think the response you got from dug was meant in jest (i thought it was pretty funny), the fact remains that your physiological issues with 3D are not the studios fault. i feel for you, i really do, i have a friend who has the same issue and can't see movies with me when they are in 3D, kinda sucks. but restricting your movie viewing time to weekday afternoons or weekends? really? weekday nights not offering the most aggressive scheduling for movie viewing is pretty standard man, most folks have stuff to do the next day and aren't sitting through a movie at 8pm on a wednesday. yeah, it restricts your options, but it doesn't remove them, you still have options. i would love it if banks were open at midnight, but they aren't and i cope.
This isn't even worth a facepalm.
This isn't even the dubious argument about whether or not 3D "enhances" the movie-going experience. Put it this way. I get migraines and cluster headaches. Loads of fun, indescribably painful, requires lots of drugs and can literally keep me out of work for a couple days. Real3D 3D can actually trigger these headaches for me, depending on how badly done it is. So I avoid 3D films for the most part. Now go fail at trying to be clever someplace else. |
lets remember folks, movies are put out for profit, it's a business, if 3D brings in more bucks, or if the producers want to make their movie in 3D, then that's what they do. if they lose you as a customer, but gain 5 more highschool kids who enjoy 3D, then it's the right move. you can gripe, i get it, no one likes everything. but trying to say your specific physical issues with it justify your non acceptance of someone elses differing opinion (snarky or not) just kind of shoots holes in your initial stance.
Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.
screw your joke, i want "FREEM"
I saw a poster in the theater for frickin' TITANIC in 3D rerelease into the theaters. This stuff has got to stop.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Because using a four letter word for a unix file system checker in place of a curse word is viewed as trying to "get around" the word filters here.

Never said they were. I was merely expressing my displeasure at the lack of real choices for seeing the 2D version without having skip work and leave my co-workers in the lurch.

The real issue here is that they've not limited the FILM to certain difficult-to-attend showtimes. They've simply limited one FORMAT of the film, the only one I can realistically attend without possible "health" issues.

Yes. As much as I like Ghost Rider the character and yes I think the first movie was good despite keeping it at PG13 and giving him spider-man type of one liners when he faced most of his foes, and that the fights themselves could have been more intense.
Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance however......well this sequel despite a few minor good points, such as more intense fights, less one liners (only 2 that I noticed: "Sorry, does it hurt? It looks like it does" and after he defeats Blackout and leaves him on the road he says "Roadkill"), and nice FX for the Rider and his bike......this sequel pretty much has crashed and burned. Cage's performance at times was nice such as when he was fighting to keep the Rider contained while interrogating the arms dealer, and his fighting the transformation while riding, but at other times he was just too erratic. Not sure if Cage or the directors are to blame. Lambert's character felt like Connor Macleod turned into a monk. Blackout, nice adaptation of the comic character, though some viewers may be confused as to how his darkness power worked. Basically in the movie, he causes his target to see an illusion of total darkness then attacks them. The kid's performance as "Danny, son of the Devil" was rather bland, but then again this may be his first role so I'll cut him a break. I preferred Peter Fonda as the devil but that is a matter of preference. We also get the origin of the spirit that Blaze is possessed by, Zarathos.
Per the movie, Zarathos was an angel from the heavens sent to protect the innocent until captured and taken to the devil's realm to be tormented for years until it's mission was twisted into punishing the wicked and it became the Spirit of Vengeance. At the end though, the Rider has become what he once was and his flame color has shifted to bright blue instead of "Evil red".
Plot summary: the kid, Danny, was conceived by the Devil 13 years ago and now per prophecy intends to take the kid as his new permanent host body since it can handle all the devil's power and not burn out like the devil's other host bodies. The church of course doesn't want this and Blaze is approached with an offer: bring the kid to the sanctuary where he can be guarded until the time of prophecy is over and they will lift his curse.
Plot elements recognized from the comics:
1. Blaze makes the deal to save his dad, gets shafted and becomes the Rider.
2. Zarathos in the comics in the original Blaze GR series was a demon forming a cult on ancient Earth until Mephisto defeated him and took him to his realm.
3. In the previous GR series (not the current trainwreck of a series that will end with ish 9), it was revealed that there are multiple Riders, all agents of heaven sent to bring vengeance to evil doers. So elements 2 and 3 are blended together in this movie.
4. Blue flame: first seen in the 90's Dan Ketch GR series, used to destroy an undead foe, later used when the Rider became the "angel of death" and destroyed Blackheart. Later seen again in the more recent series when Danny absorbed all the Rider's power and turned blue and took down the gates of heaven.
5. the kid in the movie is named Danny, I'll presume that to be a reference to the 90's series.
6. Rider killing evil doers....well that did happen in the awful Ghost Rider Hammerlane miniseries that reestablished Blaze as the Rider...
Overall: wait for this movie to go Netflix and rent it or stream it from them. Not worth seeing in 2D or 3D in theater.
Movie Budget was about $55 million current box office is $48 million.
Not one of Marvel's better movies, but more fun then Elektra, Blade 3, Daredevil, Catwoman, Highlander 2, Star Trek 5......
My suggestion to Marvel: extinguish the flames and put the motorcycle in the garage. If you must do a third movie, have Cage appear long enough to get killed and the Rider power goes to Danny Ketch. Otherwise, don't bother.

I did. Was able to find one about an hour's drive from where I live that had an evening showing. Could probably have waited for the local brew and view to get it but I was impatient.
The film is, well done from an SFX angle. But from a storytelling aspect and "technical film making" aspect, it's a damn mess. The film leaps from scene to scene with a plot so thin in areas that you almost WISH for chewing gum and bailing wire. And the performances were just all over the map, especially Cage's.

We pretty much agree on this movie. I have the director's version of the first movie in my library. Nice changes from the theatrical, so perhaps a director cut of the sequel will offer some improvement. Faint hope, I know

I like 3D. Contrary to some comments above about its long "nothing new here" life, I think it's come a long way. I went 15 years without seeing anything in 3D, and then one of my sisters talked me into seeing a U2 concert filmed in 3D, at an IMAX theater. I was impressed, and that's an understatement. After that, I went "3D crazy" and saw several other movies in 3D at the IMAX, including a documentary about whales.
Out of all of the 3D movies I've seen, Avatar was the least impressive. That doesn't mean I wasn't impressed. But its "3D-ness" seemed a little bit tacked on, rather than baked in. Which is a shame, because I hear they developed some new 3D filming technology for the making of that movie. Maybe they'll do better with it next time. I've only thought about Avatar about five times since I walked out of the theater. When I say it wasn't a memorable experience, I'm not just trying to be a trendy City of Heroes forum poster. I'm willing to enjoy a simple popcorn flick for what it is. A movie has to be better than average to make me think about it later.
3D as a film format is awesome in my book, but I know lots of people who hate it. They hate it with a passion. I know so many people who hate 3D, I'm surprised the format makes enough money to stay in business. If I want to go to a 3D movie with friends, it's a short list to call. 3D movies make a lot of people physically ill to one degree or another. I can't help that I like them, but those people clearly can't help but loathe them.
Also, um. I can relate in some way or another to both of the big arguers above. If I complain too much, the people in my life will remind me that whining does not make a guy very attractive, or great to be around. And, yeah. It's true. It's not bad to spend a little time thinking, "Aw, this sucks." But after a little bit of that, I've got to let it go and move on.
I was in a car wreck last year that gave me a concussion, and temporary nerve damage in one of my eyes. The headaches that accompanied my concussion were serious. I basically had a migraine that lasted several months, with short intermittent periods of relief. I missed a month of work, my car was in the shop for almost half a year, I had to stop playing City of Heroes. Entertainment was a dark room, and--eventually--quiet audio books (Michio Kaku has a concussion-friendly voice ). Remembering back, I did make a forum post about my accident. It was a short post about missing City of Heroes. My right eye hurt by the time I was done typing it. But I deleted it a few seconds later. I knew I was whining.
