Discussion: Featured Items at the Paragon Market - 2/14/12
Well, I like my long-winded opinions. This is who I am. I don't like to be misunderstood, and I like to voice my thoughts however I have them. It wasn't for a sense of satisfaction that I voice my thoughts either. I do not want to give up such a great game, but I do not wish to be a victim again either, nor do I wish to not have the ability to not get every item in the game, which, up until now, has not happened. So, I guess you can dislike me Lol, Everyone's different.

feedback and responses(as are others.) That's a lot different.
Really? You mean all this time I was writing on a public forum when I could have been doing it in notepad and saving myself an extra posting step?
Say, does that work with singing also? Doing it in the shoe department of Macy's is not always convenient, but I do own a shower. Incidentally, I'm writing this for other people who might find you just as amusing as I do. I'm not writing this for myself because I already find you amusing. |

It was indeed a typo. It's 1,600, not 9,600. Sorry for any confusion!

Hey, it's worth a shot.
Ok, regarding the Super packs....
Not bad, i bought 8 Packs:
1 ATO, 1500Merits all but boots and Gloves for the costume set.
I think it's a nifty thing, had my doubts at 1st but hey, they didn't twist my arm to buy it.
I had 2 months of points saved up anyways so, yeah.
About people complaining that this brings Gambling into the game.. uhm..
Remember the reward rolls for AE Tickets and Reward Merits? Thats gambling too.
Granted, this is for Paragon points, but hey, i didn't spend a dime on points so far cause i'm flat broke, so all i got was from free Paragon Points i get monthly with my sub.
I understand that some people don't like this idea, but on the other hand, if you just save up your free points, u can get 5 packs a month for free.

This is one of those topics that will go and go, so while it's here ... here's my 2 cent's.
As player's we believe that all that happens should happen for us and us only. What many of us tend to forget is, this is also a business and should be run as such. Are they aware of the other free2play games that are no longer out there? Of course they are! Have they done their research to find out if they will make more money? Again, business. Many of us have talk about the economic issue's we all face and how we can't afford this, we can't afford that and yet here we are, still buying. That my friends is the American way, it's what we do. Your dollars make this game last as long as it has. The more player base, the more time and effort it takes for this to continue ... which cost.
If its broke, don't fix it... I like the chaos!

I may not post much, but I am a lurker on the forums in the truest sense. Golden Girl, I know you are a proponent of all things Paragon Studios, but please consider what I have to say. I hope it registers with you. I think Paragon has been testing the waters for some time with what we will tolerate payment wise and I feel they're beginning to misstep. Introducing a gambling system where there is the illusion of not actually spending one's money by using a dollar to point conversion system is unethical. The Paragon Market does not use dollars as its currency because if players saw how much things are in real dollars they would think twice before spending as much. I like this game as much as the next player, but many of the new transaction models are sheerly in favor of N.C. Soft.
Well, as it seems my thread has been closed I will post my reply here.
To the person who said "You simply do not have to buy the boxes and miss out on the set." Are you -kidding- me? The whole thing about the game is to have all the pieces to create unique superheroes. -Why- do I, a -paying- customer, want to miss out on something I pay over $15 for? I am sorry again, but that is -not- satisfactory. I like completeness, I like having all of my costume pieces, I don't even play the game as much as I fiddle around with the character builder, this is where I find the most fun. So again, no. I am -not- happy with this. I find these armour pieces to be very cool, and perfect for some of my hero designs, I do want them. But to have to spend -another- $15 to get them? I'm giving you a big -NO-. |
What is with people getting so offended by a BUSINESS offering a purely optional but desirable product to entice people to spend their money? The whole point of a business is to do just that, you know. Welcome to this little thing we call "capitalism".

A company that only gives gives and gives, will never last long.
Again as a mentioned, i 'bought' 8 packs with the Points THEY gave me, so i didn't spend any cash on Points or the packs at all, yet i have almost the entire costume set.

Well, if NCsoft doesn't make a profit, they'll have to start with cutting personnel, and if that doesn't help, the end of this great game will be in sight.

First, the point of the game is most certainly NOT to have all the costume pieces. Seriously, that statement is just plain idiotic.

Also: Business Offering? Are you kidding me? This is a -game- Why do I want to spend $100 a month on something like this? I think you need a trip to reality
What country has a legal code that defines this Super pack system as gambling?
|
v.intr.1. a. To bet on an uncertain outcome, as of a contest.
b. To play a game of chance for stakes.
2. To take a risk in the hope of gaining an advantage or a benefit.
3. To engage in reckless or hazardous behavior: You are gambling with your health by continuing to smoke.
v.tr.1. To put up as a stake in gambling; wager.
2. To expose to hazard; risk: gambled their lives in a dangerous rescue mission.
n.1. A bet, wager, or other gambling venture.
2. An act or undertaking of uncertain outcome; a risk: I took a gamble that stock prices would rise.
You -are- gambling on these items.
Not true. As stated, do your research You have no idea how much money they're actually making, which is quite a bit. As I've said. I've seen this before, look at Gaia Online. So don't worry about losing your game due to people losing their jobs

Like, First Ward? New Dark Astioria? CoT Make over? CoT Costume pack? Steam Punk Pack? Gunslinger Pack? Retro Si-Fi pack? Pocket D pack? Beam Rifle? Titan Weapons? Street Justice? Staff Fighting? Beast Mastery? Time Manipulation? IDF Costume set? Halloween Trail? Halloween Costume pack? Carnival of Shadows costume set? Rocket Travel? Magic Carpet Travel? Coyote Run? German Shepherd pet? Incarnate trails? ....
I think you get the point.. all this costs man power to think up, to create, to test and to implement.
You don't want the game to make a nice profit? means u don't want new items in the market each week, means u don't want as much content as we are getting atm.
Like i said before, and i'll say it one last time and i'll ignore this thread.
Nobody is forcing anyone to buy this.
I bought everything i bought with Paragon Points, from the 400 Paragon Points a month they give me with my Sub.
I bought Beam Rifle, Time manipulation, Street Justice, Halloween Pack, some stand alone costume items and now 8 Super Packs... i got all this for free cause i can't afford to spend my money atm...
This is something anyone can do1 You do not have to spend money to get Paragon Points if you are a VIP. Just wait a bit longer and still get it, for free.
I understand the commotion this can cause, i really do.. but if you are just spending the 400 free points and not buy points, what do u have to loose?

Ok, so now that we're gambling with Super Packs with our Real USD for items we can sell for Inf in game for huge profits, could someone remind me why it's so reprehensible and so morally wrong that I'll burn in some form of Hell for going to BlahBlahBling.com and buying 50 Billion Inf for $8.99 as "skdjhfskjdh" in game is advertising?
No, personally I don't use RMT, but the subject has now come up.
Yes, spending is the American way, but if the world's countless sovereign debt crises tell us anything, spending the way we have is unsustainable and has wrought nothing but financial ruin to the world. That aside, gone is the time where businesses actually cared about what people really thought about a certain product. There is mostly nothing but hubris abound when it comes to modern day corporations. It is interesting to see when that will really cost them.
|
At least when there's any viable alternative their customers can switch to. It's just
that different departments have different priorities - marketing is the one least likely
to care about the product itself, most likely to view the consumer as a sucker, and
the aspect we're exposed to the most personally(other than the product itself.)
PS itself is a good example. I don't, by any means, believe the entirity of the dev team
is really all that "involved" in the market and the money side - I think many of them are
way more interested still in content delivery, in their various deparments(and going by
the marketing hate on the forums, I think it's a fair statement that many people feel
simularly.) We're dealing with them less, and marketing and PR more these days though,
so that's the "face" PS as a whole are giving us more of. =/

this offering and direction... it doesn't actually impact me that much. My main focus is
in the content, and with the current SSA, upcoming DA+, and other things down the
pipe, I'm.... a surprisingly satisfied customer just now. Been awhile I could state that
honestly. I'll state my opinion because I'm a loudmouth, and just in case anyone in
Redname cares a fig, but.
When costume parts and customization are *that* important a side of the game to one,
I can see where things like this are very close to dealbreaking events. And if they'e already
irate about something else, well...
Voting with your feet and your wallet when you're not personally satisfied is *also* one
of the crucial components of capitalism. If a business isn't meeting your personal needs,
there's absolutely nothing dishonorable about saying so and taking your money away from
them.
Can't always get what you want.
And basically this comment granted you access to my ignore list.

Astra, people will continue to argue with you and say that you don't have to buy anything; no new power sets, no new costumes, etc., which is true, but their arguments are very flawed. What many people are choosing to ignore is the fact that most of us play this game with the knowledge and implication that there will be new content added to the game at regular intervals. Most current players would not continue to play the game if that system suddenly ceased and they were forever left with the game as is.
There is currently a system in place where if one wants to access most of the new content, one has to pay much more than in the past just to keep the gaming experience fresh (through new costumes, content, power sets, etc.). There are too few costumes being released for free and many more are seeing an ever increasing sale price.
The degradation of costume packs alone comes to mind. First, we had Super Boosters which included a costume set, emotes, auras, and a temporary power. Then it was watered down to half the price for all the costume pieces, but many of the former emotes, auras, and temporary powers, became more expensive cumulatively than that missing five dollars, such as Super Tailor access. Now, we have a gambling system where people are paying more than what a current costume bundle alone costs. It is striking how people refuse to face facts. We are getting less and less for our money, it's as simple as that.
Wrong merits.
On Beta, you could trade in one of the Paragon Reward Merits (those things you use to go from Tier 1 to Tier 9) to get 5 packs. A LOT of people were planning on only using those to get the Super Packs. [Edit] Reading more now, I've not been at the computer as constantly as it may look. |
