I don't really see how it's different from the pre-order arachnos helmets.

If you really, really wanted you could track down the pre-order codes for those helmets.

I know I did.

I opened 5 packs this morning, and I got Elemental gloves, mask, boots, and the chest, maybe more, but I was in a rush so didn't speciffically look at the claimed rewards thing.

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

Costume still exclusive to Super Packs. Those of us who want the costume but don't want to buy Super Packs are still discontent.

You can't convince us to not want the costume, and you can't convince us to want to buy Super Packs.

Let us voice our discontent, and move on.

I'm not trying to get you to buy super packs or not want the costume. I'm just saying; There's no reason to get angry about it now. If they announce that it will only ever be exclusive to super packs, then it's a good time to get angry.

I think they'll cave on this eventually but personally, I don't think it's a big deal, for two reasons.

1. Costume pieces and other items are sometimes gated, either behind content, reward tiers, and now super packs. It will make the company some extra money, and in City of Heroes we're seeing lenient trade-offs compared to the historically unfair F2P model; especially when you consider that anyone who spent a few dollars probably has most of the costume set now. By my third super pack, I had most of the set.

2. The real offender in this case isn't City of Heroes. It's the entire F2P model. This is what it looks like. If this [above quote] would make any of you angry, then you may as well start preparing to get angry. At the entire MMO industry. Even if you get your concession this time, the F2P model will eventually gate some other simple purchase behind complicated purchasing obstacles. At some point, Paragon Studios will not be able to cave to your demands and also remain fiscally responsible.

The F2P model is a response to the crappy global economy, in my opinion. It isn't here so that we can have freebies. It's a backwards kind of subsidizing model, where a small portion of willing customers pays for ALL of us to enjoy the game. There's a price tag on F2P, but the alternative is worse: watching the MMO market lose publishers and investors.

Notice how we seem to be getting MORE issues and other updates since Freedom went live? Someone has got to pay for that, or else it blatantly, honestly, realistically can't exist. The fewer of you who pay that price, the higher the price will rise for those who do; and the more tricks Marketing will have to foist on those doing the subsidizing. It's not because they're meanies. It's because we're all backed into a corner right now.

And the devs have ruled out an alternative purchase method for the costume for a while.

Sorry .
Reading between the lines, that says an alternative isn't going to be coming for a long time, if ever.

Is there a list anywhere of the available ATIO's and their stats? Especially Kheldian ATIO's...

As for the super packs themselves... A while ago I was annoyed at them, but not now. I don't HAVE to buy them if I don't want to, after all. Sure, more options for getting the costume parts would be great, but they really want to persuade people to pay real money for these, so I don't blame them for keeping some of them exclusive for that purpose.

Tech, you seriously need to calm down, son. You're gonna burst something if you keep letting things stress you out so much. Go have a beer.

This. x10 this, absolutely. Thank you Cap, for being so wise with your words.

Such a shame certain people won't take any notice and rant anyway.

I'm afraid some stats are still missing.

The thing is, I have no objection whatsoever to paying for that set. I would instantly, INSTANTLY pony up the points for the Elemental Order Bundle. As soon as it went live.

But I refuse, on principle, to buy any of these packs where there is only a chance to get what I am actually after. Yes, I get other stuff. Other stuff I have little to no interest in.

I fail to see why it's so hard to put the Elemental Order set up as a paid for bundle. After all, if the Packs stand up on their own merits, surely they'll still make income, yes?

Good luck, I dropped right at 6k points for 94 packs and didn't get the black wolf. And only got one full set of scrapper ATIOs.

Had 82 points left, purchased one packk.

1. Temp power Experienced X 1 (I don't actually use all my vet ones by the time I hit 50, so this is useless to me)

2. Team inspiration (Completly useless I rarely team, and would never buy consumables in the first place, unless they are things like exp boosts that last a set time.)

3. Elemntal order face mask (Something I want)

4. elemental order legs (Something I want)

5. Defender ATO (Alright I guess, would of prefered another costume piece)

The F2P business model comprises a wide array of purchasing options, not just random mystery box rewards. CoH Freedom was introduced to us as a hybrid of F2P, microtransactions, and subscriptions. The Super Packs are fundamentally different from this. It should be no surprise that many players reacted unfavorably to their announcement and are still dissatisfied with them after the devs compromised on a couple of points.

Implementing games of chance in the business plan only five months after CoH Freedom's launch suggests that early on Paragon Studios was planning how to maximize revenue from big spenders, what casinos call "whales". (The players who were consulted about pre-alpha Freedom have confirmed Super Packs were part of the program.) It has nothing to do with how profitable Freedom's launch was or how well Paragon Studios' fourth quarter performed.

As long as F2P is synonymous with "soaking the players" under the pretext of fiscal responsibility, the business model is going to have a bad reputation.

There's not a lot of lines to read between, there. If anything, specifically saying "the immediate future" to me says they're at least strongly considering it, but want to wait for the gottahaveitnow types (...like me, I guess) to buy some packs first.

Yeah well my quip about 10,000 points was just that - a comment on the sheer randomness of this. I talked to a guy on beta a few weeks ago who claimed he got the Black Wolf after only 37 packs. While it's true he may have gotten extremely lucky with that there's no real point in automatically assuming anything about it.

Still, it is annoying to have no real certainty about it regardless.

I think an ATO costs 400 reward merits at a merit vendor. So if you got merits in the packs that is a way to get them guaranteed.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

I opened around 250 packs on beta and no wolf for me there.

Right and I'm not counting on being as lucky as that guy I mentioned in beta either. I guess if you have to roll like 1 in an 1000 to get it it may always still be possible to get it sooner than later anyway. *shrugs*

Again I just don't like the uncertainty...

This is not any kind of disagreement with you. I was not interested in the costume pieces and I opened 5 packs this morning and got 6 of the 11 pieces. I am sure if I wanted them I would have gotten fewer of them. Murphy's Law, how I hate it.

I bought 24 packs for two accounts (I couldn't purchase for my wife's accounts, despite being linked to different credit cards, I was cut off).

Within 20 packs, I had the entire elemental order set done on both accounts. Being that I only paid an extra $15 to ensure I had enough points (The amount I would have been willing to pay for the set outside of the packs), I'm pleased enough.

better than I expected, 14 packs to get all the pieces, got a fair amount of ATOs as well.

Hfff....

I'm going to swallow my previous statement and lay down on one big set. I have points to spare from when the market first went live and there was a lot of stuff I wanted that needed points.
If I can get the entire costume in that one drop, then all's good, I guess...
