I just really hope the bad guys aren't "dark elves" or some other Asgardian enemies. Marvel lore is so vast that it would be a crime for them to make such an epic movie and not include an epic enemy like the Skrulls, or even the Kree.

The armor could be something to keep Frost Giants at subzero temperatures while on Earth. Just something I thought when my sister guessed at their identity. But then again you never saw the Frost Giants using fighter craft and laser guns against the Asgardians and you'd think they'd use that sort of technology while at war. So I think those are out.

And I recently read somewhere that one of the folks making the movie said it's absolutely not the Skrulls. And he also said he wasn't looking to do the Kree-Skrull War with this movie, which possibly rules out the Kree as well.

The armor has a chitin-like quality, which makes me think insectoid, so, maybe Annihilus?

I would imagine that Annihilus would be wrapped up in the Fantastic Four license, which would make him a Fox property.

I like the thought though.

Just trying to think about who has a ready-made army and who Loki would be able to find after drifting through the universe like that.

Well, the Skrulls first appeared in the FF as well, but I don't think the film companies have the rights nailed down to any secondary characters they haven't already put on screen.

I had similar thought - less backstory and exploration of how/what/why if it was re-use of the Thor introduced content.

I have no qualms about the Hulk look and trusting Marvel to implement their characters.

Oh, and on a mildly indirectly related topic, but as long as Hulk images are being tossed about. This showed up and scarred my day... had to share.

I also liked the trailer

It's looking good and The Hulk looks good. I didn't care for the 2008 Hulk...too "vein-y" and skin looked plastic or something *shrugs*

From the Wikipedia entry about the movie:

" Mark Ruffalo as Dr. Bruce Banner / Hulk:

A genius scientist who, because of exposure to gamma radiation, transforms into a monster when enraged or excited. Ruffalo was cast after negotiations between Marvel and Edward Norton broke down.[8] About replacing Edward Norton, Ruffalo said, "I'm a friend of Ed's, and yeah, that wasn't a great way for all that to go down. But the way I see it is that Ed has bequeathed this part to me. I look at it as my generation's Hamlet." About the character he stated, "He's a guy struggling with two sides of himself—the dark and the light—and everything he does in his life is filtered through issues of control. I grew up on the Bill Bixby TV series, which I thought was a really nuanced and real human way to look at the Hulk. I like that the part has those qualities".[9] Regarding the Hulk's place on the team Ruffalo said, "He's like the teammate none of them are sure they want on their team. He's a loose cannon. It's like, 'Just throw a grenade in the middle of the group and let's hope it turns out well"![10] Ruffalo also told New York magazine that unlike previous incarnations, he will actually play the Hulk, "I'm really excited. No one's ever played the Hulk exactly, they've always done CGI. They're going to do the Avatar stop-action, stop-motion capture. So I'll actually play the Hulk. That'll be fun".[11] About his preparation for the role Ruffalo joked, "I've lost 15 pounds and I've put another five on of just strapping, pure USDA beef... They want me mean and lean, but they don't want me big and buff"

As to Loki's army, we know that in Captain America the Red Skull was presumed killed but we didn't hear any reports that Hydra was disbanded, destroyed, all captured, etc. So perhaps for years Hydra has been laying low, rebuilding their might and then comes Loki with the tesseract/Cosmic Cube and takes command of them?

Absolutely agreed. I think maybe they've toned him down a little too much. There was something about 2008's Hulk that was incredibly primal and hit a chord with me. I guess I'll judge this one when I see it. I do think the skin tone is good though and I like that they've made his face look somewhat like Ruffalo.

And yeah, I squeeed at the trailer too. Total nerdgasm.

I dunno about toned down. I just think that they're going for a more natural build, which entails relaxed muscles vs working, pumped-up muscles in action.

Guess I'm not seeing how this version is worse than the other two. *shrug*

This version actually reminds me of the television series version, only done in CGI...the color, muscle tone, grunts (which are done by Lou), and size/scale. I've read that Stan Lee has said that Lou Ferrigno's version of the Hulk, size and all, was how he envisioned the character.
Even with all the variations that have been done, when someone mentions the Hulk, a mental picture of the original pops into my head.

.......and yeah, I nerdgasm'd when I saw the trailer.

The shot of the Hulk from the back (In the group street shot of the Avengers) reminds me of the way the Hulk was drawn in the original Avengers comics. It is possible that was intentional- a homage to the original drawings?

As a aside.. for some reason I do NOT like the "modern" Cap suit.. something about it just seems off..

I really hope that Loki's army is the Skrull and not the Kree.. though it is possible Hollywood decided to combine them into a "new" race?

Agreed. The texture seems wrong, the design narrows his shoulders, and the helmet doesn't look right. Fortunately, it looks like he'll ditch the mask at some point during a fight.

I'm also disappointed in Cap's modern costume. I had high hopes for it based on the WWII one he wore in his movie. That one was pretty awesome.

Doubtful. I really think they would save that kind of story for a Thor movie. After all, it happened in Thor's comic.

Unfortunately the Ultimates version of the Avengers fought an invasion of Asgardian enemies. So I would not be that surprised if they followed that lead. However I am hoping that Loki has lead Skrulls to Earth.

I really don't mind. It saves something for a sequel.

I was mostly bummed about the size difference.

We go from this Hulk being around 10' tall here:

To maybe 7-8' tall here:

He was 9' tall in the 2008 movie.

And he certainly changed height a lot in the comics. Maybe he's just slightly less angry in this movie so he loses a foot or two in height.

Edit: I see what you're saying, I was going off of Tim Roth's 5'7" height.

Be well, people of CoH.

No matter how tall he is, I have a feeling Whedon is going to come up with some awesome feats of strength for him in this movie.
