First Ward, Midnight

Seriously. This guy is a creep. Not like "ooh Scary, whata cool creepy effect"

the guy is a social foulup and reading anything he says brings a close approximation of physical pain. Worse, that advances the storyline NOTHING.

I would seriously give bonus props if his creepiness helped the story ( Shining anyone?) But this guy is written so bad, and has so little reason for existenc I sincerely hope a decent editor actually exists somewhere in the bowels of NC Soft. Cause he needs major help, including just deleting if nothing else is easily done.

He's a magical psychopath who killed all his friends and family in an effort to catch the eye of another magical psychopath. Sure, he's a very one dimensional character, but it's a game about comic book-style heroes and villains--a genre filled to the brim with such characters. Look on the bright side, he appears in what, two arcs in a zone that's easy to outlevel anyway?

What exactly are you attempting to accomplish with this thread, anyway? It's not like a muddled up post full of misspellings and grammatical errors is going to carry a lot of weight as a literary critique...

And how exactly is this a "Player Question"? There's not a question (nor a question mark) in your entire rant!

There's your editing above in bold -- don't go throwing stones when your glass house has that many grammatical errors.

He was facepalm-worthy many times, but I got the sense that's exactly what he's supposed to be. If you find him too annoying to deal with, good news: there's little reason to do First Ward more than once, so you never have to see him again.

he dies anyway so... ya who cares? cheer when he gets evaporated.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one who thought Master Midnight was a riot. I loved him. He is (was) such a derpy doo.

I thought he would've been cute enough in another context, but for me he rather spoiled the up-until-then nicely creepy First Ward atmosphere. He really should join forces with Von Grun, and they could have fun being silly parodies together.

I also enjoyed his adolescent style creepiness.

You know, that's a good way to put it: "adolescent style creepiness."

He's very much the spoiled little boy who pouts because the cool kids won't let him play with them, so the first chance he gets to MAKE THEM PAAAYYY, he jumps at it, goes drastically overboard with his revenge and then realizes that with all the cool kids dead now, he can NEVER be accepted by them.

He's a whiny brat with delusions of grandeur who killed dozens, maybe hundreds of people out of a perceived slight, he never takes responsibility for his own atrocities, and he continues to behave like a twelve-year-old boy trying to impress the girl who will never give him the time of day. The one slightly positive thing he accomplishes in the entire arc is the result of him screwing up yet again, not because he suddenly sees the error of his ways and tries to redeem himself. I don't get any real amusement from him, just some contentment that at the end of the arc, he can't kill any other victims or ruin any other lives.

On the plus side, if you ever wanted to have a justification for going Vigilante, the realization that everything would have been so much less failtastic if you'd just snapped that little *******'s neck the first time you infiltrate the Midnight Mansion...

Murder - sometimes it IS the answer.

I found the character mildly amusing. All Praetorian characters are distorted reflections of their Primal selves, and he was written in that spirit.

I also enjoyed the various D&D references.

NCSoft obviously has no editors, that's why there are typos in the character creator.

Seriously, if they don't change arcs to try to patch up glaring plot holes, what makes you think they'll change one to get rid of an NPC you don't like? Especially since, from what I've heard, you're supposed to dislike him?

It was awesome seeing a character that incorporated D&D references like crazy. The kid was the DM from hell. Literally, the "Rocks fall, everyone dies" DM made manifest.

I thought that was awesome.

I found him humourous in a goatee universe way

but I did find that the interesting beginning in first ward with the ghouls and such was spoiled by the switch to the storyline.

Master Midnight is a parody of D&D players in particular and gamers in general. That's his only reason to exist - as a joke character. "He's a nerd! Nerds are so weird! Let's mock the nerd! Laugh at the nerd!" I thought we were past that?

Nope. At least it's other nerds making fun of the nerd.

We were. But then we figured out what a parody is, and then it was okay again.

I thought Master Midnight was hilarious. But maybe that's because he reminds me of several people I know. In that sense, he was quite well-written.

Personally, I found him cringe-worthy, unfunny and borderline offensive, but then I find parody to be unfunny as a general thing.

How very close minded of you.

There's a reason various forms of comedy exist. Because they work.

As for story, I found him kind of funny if only because, as I solo'ed it, I imagined the exchanges my character and MM would have. My character has his parody side too, mostly that whole 'adolescent creepiness' but parodying LARPers/Renaissance Fest junkies. Heh, but my character knows when to get down to business and stop ogling the temptresses.

How very rude of you. There's a reason personal opinions exist - because we all have our own. This isn't the first time you've heedlessly dismissed mine, and I'm frankly tired of putting up with that sort of arrogant disregard. If that's what your argument is going to be, then I'm no longer interested in participating.

THe thing about humor is that it's extremely subjective. I'm sure we've all had the experience of getting a huge laugh out of something that a friend/family-member/co-worker/guy-at-the-bus-stop says "just isn't funny." Or the other way around.

There are people who watch Full House reruns and think it's a riot. I'm not one of those people. Most of that group might watch an episode of Futurama and not "get it" at all while I love it to bits.

I'm not going to post a judgment of your opinion, Sam, but I am going to point out that it's likely fair for one person to tell another that an opinion is (appears) close-minded. You're completely within your right to take offense at being told that about your own opinions, but you were not told you could not have your opinions, or that your opinions were factually wrong. You were told someone else's opinion of your opinion.

Rude? Perhaps. It pays to have a thick skin on internet forums.
