Freitag did. As the upper edge on "scary" as he would want to go.

Orc&Pie No.53230 There is an orc, and somehow, he got a pie. And you are hungry.

Sorry if these are repeats but I have to throw my 3 all time ever favourites and I can't give them any preference as they are all just the best:-

Dune

Blade Runner

Serenity

Since I can't leave the quote without fear of moderation that I think of first when I hear "Coming to America" (I blame being young when I first saw the movie, and envious I guess), I leave you with...

Bark Like A Dog

EDIT - As to Dune, the original was okay (And not just because Patrick Stewart is my favorite actor) but the Sci-Fi mini-series was better. But then, the original was trying to turn the book into a 2-hour or so movie, when it took the series to make the whole book into a movie.

I was editing my post after you responded the first time but just wanted to reitterate my suggestions in cause you skipped the new ones and I missed or didn't see anyone else suggest it.

Especially if you've seen and liked Star Trek, I wanted to emphasize Galaxy Quest. Funny and meta as hell. Very entertianing.

The Crow - The first one with Brandon Lee. The rest are meh (I liked the third one but didn't come close to the first).

The Kevin Smith New Jersey/View Askewniverse Series:

  • Clerks
  • Mall Rats
  • Chasing Amy
  • Dogma
  • Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
  • Clerks II

Oh, one more.

Dick Tracy: Insanely star studded cast, keeps all the over the top grotesqueness of a comic strip and is lots of fun.

Always remember, we were Heroes.

Love that scene! That's actually the first thing I think about when I think of Troll 2. Somebody give Chad a Brownie point for knowing his movies-that-are-so-bad-they're-good!

Back to the Future: Childish, but a work of near comic genius by the ensemble.

Princess Bride: Best film exposition of the classic story form ever. Funny and touching.

Big Trouble in Little China: A classic depiction of the ugly American anti-hero.

And given your tastes - never, ever watch Hellraiser. Ever.

Yeah... I'd go with this.

And I agree about horror films... but HELLRAISER had an absolutely beautiful score.

I think I'm about the only nerd out there who didn't like LotR. That includes the books. Hell, ESPECIALLY not the books, ugh.

I did love The Hobbit (book), though it could stand to have been trimmed down a bit. But LotR just goes on and on and on and it's sooooo booooring. :/

I must echo the mention of Army of Darkness and really any of the Evil Dead movies. Bruce Campbell has so much cheesy awesomeness that he can almost take a round house kick from Chuck Norris... almost.

Work in progress no more. I have decided that I'm going to put my worst spelling errors here. Triage Bacon, Had this baster idea, TLR

These are all moves that I've never seen, and have no intetion of ever seeing. Especially "swingers". Never heard of it before, but it sure sounds naughty.

More quintessential 80s movies:

Fast Times at Ridgemont High ("Make up your mind, dude, is he gonna **** or is he gonna kill us?") - this and the Breakfast Club is 80s angst in a nutshell.

Night Shift & Doctor Detroit (the unintentional pimp double-feature)

Remo Williams the Adventure Begins (still waiting to roll my Shinanju/Shinanju scrapper)

Red Dawn (Wolverines!)

Stir Crazy (this movie is ba-a-ad. and it don't want no **** either)

The Lost Boys (the vampires don't eat either Corey, but its still a good movie)

Absence of Malice (Paul Newman, Sally Field, Bob Balaban, and great end piece with Wilford Brimley)

And since people are tossing in movies outside the period, I'm going to stump for The Bestest Comedy of All Time Ever, Murder by Death.
