Gender Equality in Costumes - A lack thereof

To be fair, sidhe is not a common English word. But it's easy to run across if you're a fantasy buff.

Thank you for putting this up 5,000% way better than I did. I don't know why I couldn't find this thread when I posted mine! I was in such a hurry, I forgot to mention that this started back with the Magic Pack, but I kept letting it slide. I'm not buying another pack until it provides clothes for my female characters (~85% of my roster).

I was super excited about the Gunslinger costume pack, looking forward to making my gunslingin' female character upgrade to duster, chaps and maybe even a spiffy new hat.

But apparently, Paragon Studios didn't want me to. They wanted me to dress her like a saloon where.*

We can't even choose chaps and dusters as options. I object to making the Saloon Tawtsy as the default selection to begin with, but making it the only option is just tastelessly clueless.

This is the first costume pack I'm not buying. I love the female hair, but given what it comes with, I can't let my cash give approval. If I have to explain why this is so bothersome, you're stuck in 1981.

THAT'S what I wanted! Sure, add options with frills etc., but not as the only options.

And to the person who said it would be a huge waste of developer time for little player appeal to give gender equality on frills: You don't know that, to either point. Only the developers know how much time it takes to make adjustments to a mesh and skin based on bodytype. And I know there is a percentage who would LOVE that. I don't know what percentage so I can't do cost/benefit for Paragon, but not knowing the cost...

Really? So it was harder to go into costume creator and mix things up to make female Hellions, then to go through and program an entirely new batch of Hellion girlfriends?

There is a problem with B and C.

If you are correct in C and including male corsets is a "huge waste of time", then B is the correct answer.

I mean, if people actually do want fewer costume choices for males, then they should have fewer.

Now, I'm not completely convinced by this - I think in terms of Frankenfurter clones alone, you'd see more males in corsets than you will ever see pilgrim hats, but if we operate under the assumption that males don't want frilly parts (for male characters), then it only makes sense not to make those and to make the things people do want.

I'm fully expecting that any "knights" set would have something like this for women:

Instead of something along the lines of this:



Or even this:



Something close to this would be a "no-brainer" purchase for me:

I was trying to illustrate the point that you can have "sexy" while still keeping to a theme.

Had the Gunslinger Set included female gunslinger options and they released the strumpet (edit: I love when I can get a chance to use that word. ) set separately, I'm sure both would have sold.

See, it's exactly this kind of cynicism that this sort of costume segregation breeds. And I do agree with you, because that's precisely what I expect any more. That's what we got the last three times, and I have no reason to suspect it will ever be anything else.

And this is where I am about this issue as well. Though I haven't previously commented in any of these recent costume feedback threads, that doesn't mean it's not an important issue to me. So I echo the concerns of the majority of previous posters. I trust Zwill to look out for our best interests.

(I'm just funning with you. As I was with the image I quoted. I do agree with most everything you've posted in this thread, especially your open letter. And yes, I too think the strumpet should have been split off from the gunslinger set and both filled out and released as two full packs.)

But...but... a waist sash!!!!

Of course it's probably the only piece I'd use regularly, but still... I can already do armor quite well. How long have people asked for sashes?

The problem is that these complaints have been around a long time (pre-tinting issues have been around since Issue 7 with the introduction of the VEATs, In Issue 10 with the vanguard costume set, etc.), and instead of things getting better, the exact same issues keep returning to a greater degree.

I see why people are upset. The players are being told that their feedback is getting listened to, and then the next set has even more of the same problems.

The developers seem to feel the need to put out quantity over quality. It might be time to take a step back and re-evaluate some priorities.

Armour, yes. Medieval armour, not so much. There's all of one set and it's older than I am. We've had a few more that look like generic metal armour (Valkyrie comes to mind), but none of it really looks medieval.

^This entirely. We've had beast, steampunk, barbarian, circle of thorns, and gunslinger all in less than a year. I love having new sets but...Yeah. Not when they're unfinished and/or flawed.

Also make sure they release TW before they "take their time" on anything.

I know. I'm trying not to be my normal dramatic self to get the point across to the development team that I'm tired of the promises that "things will be better." only to have the next pack contain even more of the mistakes that we we're told will be fixed in future packs.

Agreed. The Dev's shouldn't be surprised (even though they always seem to be. They can't claim to listen, NOT listen as is obvious from the sets in the past, then throw a hissy one when they get called on it.
