Does this happen often?

So, I was on Exalted monday night in the wee hours, happened upon Scrapyard. He despawned before I could get a team together so I just went about, did a couple missions, saw another miner strike and lo and behold he wound up in the same spot, as happens.

So I pulled a team together, got one in an okay amount of time, we started to wail on him aaaaand after knocking him down to about 10% health he DESPAWNS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIGHT.

To say the least, the team was a bit disgruntled since we'd been maybe a minute away from victory.

Is there really just an absolute timer on his presence? That is extremely disappointing if true ;p

sadly yes... I have had this same thing happen to me before. Right in the middle of taking him down and suddenly poof. One time we were so close to defeating him I thought we had and was shocked when I didnt get the badge or reward merits for it.. then I discovered no one on the team did and when we investigated on globals found out that even if he is actively being attacked when the clock runs out Scrapyard despawn..

Frankly I think this should be addresses by the devs and fixed. I could see if no one bothered to attack him then allow him to despawn after x amount of time.. but if a team is actively battling him.. just let them deswn him for you.

Ok, not just me then. If that's working as intended then that's crap. So basically, you really want to have a team prepared before he even spawns to make sure you have as much time as possible. That's really really lame, especially since his badge actually unlocks a contact. :P

I've had him despawn when I went to switch characters to take him down before. It also doesn't help that it sometimes takes forever for him to spawn in the first place.

However, I had Caleb despawn right in front of me before.

Its not something that occurs within minutes of him spawning but unlike some GMs the Ghost of Scrapyard seems to spawn quite a lot and after dealing with the ordeal of as many as three Luscas in ip the Devs set things up to prevent things like that from occurring. I am not sure how often he spawns but if it is close to the time for a new one.. the old version disappears.. and doesnt care if you are in the middle of battling it or not.

I wasnt sure so I checked the wiki to confirm or deny .. did defeating x amount of Scrapyarders cause him to appear.. it doesnt by the way. I thought that might have been a reason for the despawns but obviously not. Thing is since they added the zone event announcements it seems like every time you turn around a new Ghost of Scrapyard is appearing so when the new arrives.. the old has to be gone. WHY they cant allow a team that has his health down to say 5% to finish him off rather than despawning.. I have no clue! YOU DEVS.. fix this!

If he wanders too close to the Black Market, it obliterates him.

Or the drones near the arbitor dude in sharks where sirens call enterance is at it will auto kill him. Or at AE, at ferry etc.

Scrappy spawns often. I have busted his Blue butt a hundred times, never had him despawn in the middle of a fight.

The only time I've seen him "despawn" while fighting him, we were close the trainer or the black market and he was actually zapped by a drone or the market bubble. It wasn't always obvious except after taking stock of where we were standing when it happened.

You know what would help? One of those zone event pop-ups like Praetoria has. At least that way, you'd know how close he was to despawning and if you needed to pile on the damage.

He actually has one. 'Miner Strike in Sharkhead' means 'Scrapyard has spawned'. And it goes off about once every twenty minutes or so.

And no, we weren't close to any of the insta-death rones. We *were* near the ferry and the black market but we pulled him away from them into that big empty lot.

We were just all dog piling him and then poof, he wasn't there anymore.

Tried soloing him on a fire/cold. Debuffed him and got three hits into my chain when he despawned.

Speak all you wish of timers and such, he was scared. Too scared to run even.

He de-spawned on me as well. I hit him like three times and the poof.





I even got the "you have defeated" message

i've had Scrapyard despawn on me a couple times while i was attacking him. Generally solo, and the character didn't have the debuffs/DPS to actually defeat him, but just wanted to see how tough he would be to fight. It's annoying five minutes in to have him vanish and all the scrapyarders run away.

And there was at least one time i was on a team and we started pounding on him and he promptly ran up the hill straight into the Arbiter drones.

The poster was referring to the Event/Trial UI window that shows objectives, health and time remaining

He'll also despawn if someone exits a mission door nearby, via the mechanic that auto-kills mobs so people exiting missions will not emerge into surprise mobs. Saw this happen to Scrapyard twice in the same place in the graveyard just this past week.

When the monster guides were on the official website, it said that he could spawn from 1 minute to 2.5 hours.

Killing a lot (200) of scrapyarders always seems to do the trick though. It might be a coincidence, but hey, there is a badge for them too.

Not to mention his defeat (badge) being a prerequisite for the Born in Battle accolade...

On the other hand, I've exited missions in his vicinity several times, and had him kill me before I could finish zoning, so this is, at best, not always true.

It's because of THIS annoying trait that I've often referred to him as the "Ghost of Deathsurge", who's pulled the same idiotic stunt on me as well. I've soloed both of them down to about 20-25% health on my necro/dark mm, only to have both of them panic and charge the nearest drone.

Personally, I still count both as "soloed... to death", given that neither was going to somehow turn the tables on me, but it irks me nonetheless.

There must be more to the code that determines whether mobs near doors get killed than that, because in the one instance, I was part of the team exiting a mission door that caused the kill-off, in the other I was solo and standing nearby after just logging in - i.e., I was another player in the vicinity - when a team exited from the same door.
